This is a casual midrange deck with a control finish, made for multiplayer games. The deck aims to survive until it can use a pestilence. Damage in the early phase and damage from the pestilence and surviving creatures from the late phase should win us the game. The challenge is to stay alive long enough.

Early phase: Stay alive

First order is to establish a board presence, to provide a chance for early damage or even keep the board until the mid-game. It should be the goal here to establish the Lich and Messenger. It can carry the game, and also sets up well for the Pestilence. Part of setting up for the Lich is playing the artifacts, which make establishing a creature base easier and enable both main cretures: The Lich and the Messenger.

Mid-game: Working towards the pestilence

The deck uses a little card-draw to help find the pestilence. Good blockers and lifegain can keep us alive in the meantime, with Swords for tricky situations.

Late-game: Use the pestilence

That the Pestilence damages us as much as opponents should not matter, since we should have the only creatures on the board and options to gain life. Instant direct damage from the opponent is a problem here, of course, to watch out for.

Some choices might be explained by the format me and my friends play. The format I have in mind works as follows: It is a 3-person free for all, in which the player with most life wins once one of the other players dies.
