More Interaction in Daretti

Commander Deck Help forum

So for a while now, I've been working on Daretti. It's my favorite deck by far, but I have one problem.

I need more interaction.

In games, if there is a threat on the table, then I usually end up pleading to an opponent for help, or wrathing the whole board and losing some of my creatures. My only targeted removal is Chaos Warp and Spine of Ish Sah.

My question is: are there any other good mono-red removal cards?

And while I'm at it, do you think Farsight Mask could be good enough (draw is tight in red).

Sorry, the deck link option wasn't working

I don't play mono-red, but a buddy of mine tends to stick in a good amount of Crater's Claws type effects. Only good for creature removal but most of the people I play with run creature heavy decks. And as for Farsight Mask it seems good to me, if you're gonna get hit for damage might as well draw some cards while you're at it. Mind's Eye would be a worthy addition for some more draw.

I don't like draw cards that require more work (paying mana) or are reliant on opponents' actions (which means they can control when you get cards), such as Farsight Mask or Mind's Eye. At a lower mana cost they might be okay, but they're way too expensive for the effort involved. If I'm paying that much mana I want them to be automatic, like Staff of Nin. This counts even if you're playing Daretti.

Daretti, Scrap Savant can use draw+discard very efficiently because of his Goblin Welder type ability; you can pitch cards you want him to animate and dig. This is something red does well. Here's some of the big ones like this:
Wheel of Fortune
Magus of the Wheel
Wheel of Fate
Slate of Ancestry
Reforge the Soul

My friend that runs a Daretti deck prefers cheaper ones he can fire off earlier in the game. The idea is he can afford to fire one of these off to get something expensive into play when other decks are still ramping. I'll list a few I've seen him use at various times:
Wild Guess
Tormenting Voice
Cathartic Reunion
Faithless Looting

How'd I forget Memory Jar? Bah.

Brittle Effigy is criminally underrated for creatures, and acts as a nice rattlesnake effect.

Run some graveyard hate as well, it hurts more decks than you would think. Tormod's Crypt at a bare minimum.

Wild Ricochet or Reverberate effects can also be good. Tooth and Nail is less scary if you also get one, and they double as counters for counterspells.

Sometimes bringing everyone down to your level is the best option. Jokulhaups, Impending Disaster, Ruination, Keldon Firebombers, etc. These spells might not make you any friends, but they will buy you lots of time against those chumps running fancy nonbasic lands and ramp. Just make sure you can actually end the game once you've blown up everyone's lands, or everyone is going to rebuild and immediately try to kill you out of spite.

As a red player, you need to play to your strengths. Beat the crap out of them before they can beat you!

I agree with most people saying Farsight Mask is not good enough (it will dissuade people from attacking you unless they can kill you though), but don't let anyone fool you out of playing Mind's Eye. That card is part of the EDH all-stars. If you've seen it perform then you know its value.

It's not removal, but Custody Battle is an interesting bleed out effect that isn't straight land destruction. Personally I've always used things like Crawlspace, Maze of Ith and icy manipulator to make you a less attractive target, given 's lack of removal.

Rolling Earthquake is also a potent wrath that combos with Repercussion. Although when Repercussion hits the board you tend to become a target.

Predator, Flagship is a desperation card i tossed into my daretti deck.

While the mana cost is god awful, i find the repeatable creature removal worth it.

Yes, in mono red, mind's eye works. It's not the best draw spell in magic, but since you are not in blue or black, then it does work very well. While mind's eye does rely on you having mana and your opponent drawing cards (most decks do draw cards).

I seen someone playing Mind's Eye and Howling Mine and Unwinding Clock, and would tap his Sol Ring on his opponents turn to draw 2. Don't remember who his commander was, or the colors he was running, but he drew lots of cards before someone blew up his eye and his clock.

Well that gave me a new idea: is Howling Mine good? It would also help me not be as much of a target.

Planar Portal is always fun in a Daretti deck as is Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer. I'm finding that Combustible Gearhulk is not a bad one to include either.

I've found Darreti doesn't really need draw. I have a friend who plays a revamped version of the precon and he stays steady at four cards for the whole game. Just pitch cards you were going to play then reanimate them next turn. Skullclamp might be a good addition if you're running Myr Battlesphere (you should be). As for removal, Burn from Within, Red Sun's Zenith, Steel Hellkite, Unstable Obelisk, basically the choice fireball effects and targeted artifacts are the best bet.

Guerte has an AMAZING Daretti deck, and I run a pretty similar list as him. Yes there are big money cards in his that can be replaced for cheaper options, but through various strategies, Daretti can work as a nice self mill type of deck and you can utilize your graveyard for needed pieces.

Here is Guerte deck [[Primer]] - Daretti the Degenerate (KLD Update)

and mine, although I need to update some of the cards in mine for Kaladesh additions and subtractions, but it isn't too different.
