This is my entry for the CommanderCast Season 8 contest.

Commander: Ugin the Transparent

Ugin the Transparent

The card Ghostfire always held a strange appeal to me, probably because it seemed so alien. This was the main motivation for me to choose the great spirit dragon Ugin as my legendary creature. For his ability I wanted to develop something that really encompassed this character's mastery over colorless mana. I'm quite pleased at the flavourful way in which the card seems to suck the colour out of mana, growing more powerful in the process.

Story card: Uginite Cave

Uginite Cave

Note: This card replaces Island in the above deck list.

Most colorless cards have slightly higher mana costs due to the fact that they are so "easy to cast". This means that in a colorless EDH deck we often have to play inefficient cards. By having a land that essentially taps for 1.25 mana we can offset this problem somewhat whilst not making artifacts absurdly strong in other decks. Furthermore, having a colourless basic land makes colourless decks more accessible as it is not necessary to hunt down a bunch of random non-basics.
