Hydroid Krasis Discussion

You're going to want to move Legion's End to the mainboard it deals with the zombies from Field of the Dead and it can deal with Hydroid Krasis . You may want to consider Reaper of Night it's an absolute pounding for control decks especially if you have out a Lucky Clover

Act of Treason 's role in the deck is to steal the big flashy win cons like Hydroid Krasis that the opponent plays. I'll take out 2 for 2 shocks, though. Torbran, Thane of Red Fell unfortunately does not increase the damage that Gingerbrute deals because Gingerbrute is colorless. This kind of defeats the whole purpose of the deck.

Note that Oko, Thief of Crowns 's last ability is based on power, not converted mana cost. If Hydroid Krasis ' power is currently 4 or more then it isn't a legal target.

To answer your core question: Hydroid Krasis' CMC is just 2 while it's on the battlefield. Any X in a mana cost only has the chosen value while the spell is on the stack. In every other zone it defaults to 0.

If my opponent casts Hydroid Krasis with X being (for example) 4, can I use Oko, Thief of Crowns 's last ability to gain control of it (since normally X=0), or when my opponent cast it does its CMC become 6?

15 "Elementals" 8 Tribal Bonuses

I see that you are trying to go competitive, but you missed the point of tribal decks. Instead of using cards that are perfect in your strategy, you are mostly restricted to a creature type so that your bonus providers matter.

With only 15 ways to get an Elemental, and two of those being land, it is highly unlikely that Omnath, Locus of the Roil will ever get more than three damage at best.

Risen Reef doesn't do much for you either. Because Nissa and your walking land don't enter as Elementals or make tokens, they can't trigger it. You might as well have built a weak Temur Landfall deck.

If you truly care about going Tribal, I strongly recommend ditching Rogue Refiner for Cloudkin Seer , Harnessed Lightning for Lightning Strike , Scorching Dragonfire , or Lava Coil (Because you lose Rogue Refiner ), and throw in Omnath, Locus of Rage to replace some Hydroid Krasis es.

Not many people know this, so be glad I'm telling you. If you have Omnath, Locus of Rage and 2-4x of Risen Reef out on the field, then by simply playing a land, you will draw/play your entire deck. You could abuse this by giving Elementals haste with Temur Ascendancy or Scampering Scorcher , or by using Omnath, Locus of the Roil to deal around 16-22 damage with the E.T.B. trigger.

Just some suggestions, but in the world of tribal, you need to maximize your bonuses. The lack of any +1/+1 or +1/+0 bonuses was odd. Not exactly sure what you are going for.

You inspired me to make this deck after play testing I would suggest Biogenic Ooze and Hydroid Krasis for some extra push. Making copies of ooze can overwhelm the opponent.

Ares111123 honestly I think that sounds decent. If budget isn't the biggest concern, running Fabled Passage could help fix your colors and thin the deck. Jace, Wielder of Mysteries / Hydroid Krasis was mentioned as a combo finisher for infinite mana, which is interesting as well, but I think you may be fine with March of the Multitudes on your opponents end step.

Not quite sure where Once Upon a Time fits in the deck at all, as it can only actively fetch lands and your mana creatures.
