Life from the Loam

I find when I need to reanimate something my Unburial Rites are in my yard.
I find when that happens I don't have white mana.

Small sunday event
Demarge, 12 years ago
I chose to attend my local cardshop's sunday event, usually these have low attendance as most of my meta is somewhat burned out by sunday. I built this deck the day before and wanted to test things out.
Round 1 I was up against a u/w aggro deck, and my opponent made a few mistakes (though nothing that would have won him the game). Game one I took hits from some small Champion of the Parish while I built up a board of a bunch of spirits and a Vault of the Archangel I had in my opening hand. Once it was online he couldn't win. Game 2 I believe I simply overpowered him as he either land flooded or didn't see any blue mana.
Round 2 was a Frites deck, both games I got him down to low life when he dropped a large fatty and then my deck didn't give me the charm I needed to kill it. Either game if I drew a little more pump I may have been able to win.
Round 3 I went up against a g/w aggro deck, I won with a few series of attacks, trades, and a miracle saving me from the Silverblade Paladin who threatened leathal with his Loxodon Smiter.
Overall I got 1 pack, determined Revenge of the Hunted had to be in my mainboard, and traded my foil Izzet Charm for one of somone's prize packs and got a Blood Crypt.
Usually I'm going to find myself being the aggressor in most matchups, but I'm also going to try out a Trostani in my sideboard, it's quite possible she should be mainboard, but I can't quite figure out where to put her...

some cards being tested
Zesty, 12 years ago
Currently testing Abrupt Decay and Borderland Ranger.
At this point I'm unsure of whether or not I will play any creatures at the 3 drop slot.
Now I noticed some use of abrupt decay in the recent scg open so I wanted to test it out. I can see it's uses as an answer to Detention Sphere that is more easily mainboard-able than the Golgari Charm, since it can hit other relevant 3 cmc permanents and not just artifacts and x/1's (or regenerate, but that's not going to be too relevant against terminus). We'll see if it's worth while to pick em up or just go with the cheap simple option.

JTMS Added
rckclimber777, 12 years ago
I added:
Geth's Verdict, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Venser, Shaper Savant and Riptide Laboratory to the deck.
I removed:
Arcane Denial - giving my opponent card advantage wasn't worth it
Swat - the ability to kill a small creature or draw a card wasn't all that great anyway.
Gitaxian Probe - did give me good information about my opponent but decided that the card draw it offered really wasn't that great.

Wow, 1000 views. That's very significant to me, I've never had a deck this popular. Thank you everyone for your continued support!!

I've decided to take out the 2 Armada Wurms and 2 Serenity Angels for now, because they seem like a high cost for how fast I'd like this deck to work. I put in 4 Fiend Hunters instead because I found this ridiculous combo you can use: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=418194 I also thought about maybe putting some Parallel Lives in for all of the Tokens I can get (Thrag and Monk).

Threw around some ideas in my head. Decided on Butcher's Cleaver instead of Ethereal Armors. Ethereals become useless when/if my creature dies and I like the lifelink from Butcher's Cleaver. I turned more of a focus to flying creatures, keeping two guildmages to give my ground units flying. Threw in/changed some control, still focusing on detain but curious to see how cyclonic rift will work. I still feel like its missing something though.

Thinking about changing the deck slightly. I play mostly in a casual setting, but it would be nice to be able to use this at a FNM once in a while.
I still kind of want to keep the ramp into Entreat the Angels or Craterhoof Behemoth with Arbor Elf and Elvish Archdruid. But at the same time I want to add back in Call of the Conclaves instead of having Elvish Visionary (which makes the mana ramp way less viable) or think of a better 4 drop then Deadbridge Goliath.
So whatever suggestions would be good to keep the main core of the deck because it works just need to tweak it to work even better. The deck is mainly build up to a win then a fast and aggro beatdown deck.

took out the guttersnipes so that i could chose one win scenario and stick with it instead of trying to do two things at once. speeds the deck up a smidgeon
Rancor Temple
vander1249, 12 years ago
Added two Rancor so they can be paired with Wayfaring Temple that way I can be sure the damage gets through and I can populate more.

Additionally, Vexing Devil is quite a strong card in this deck, and here's why: in most decks, there are not enough 1-drops or creatures in general to give up the 1-spot in your curve. In this deck, Rakdos Cackler and Stromkirk Noble are your t1 plays. Vexing Devil comes out on t3 (along with Rakdos Shred-Freak or Ash Zealot), at which point your opponent will not be so eager to pay 4 life. If this guy can go out on t4 and they take the sac, you can follow with Brimstone Volley. If Hellrider can go out on t5 after that play, it's most likely gg. My justification for Stromkirk Noble is this: as a 1/1, your opponent frequently has to choose between taking more from a Chainwalker, Devil, anything bound to Stonewright, etc, or letting the 1/1 Noble through. With that said, it has been a little bit lackluster, especially in lategame. Could sub him out for something else, or even incorporate Pyreheart Wolf or Nightbird's Clutches to Synergize with him.

Managed to place 18th out of 44, had real trouble against control decks. Starting to think a sideboard might be a good idea for situations like this. Possibly including some graveyard revival. Managed to get some slightly better cards to play with last night also, so the deck list is revised.
Better defenses
vander1249, 12 years ago
Switched out Fog for Druid's Deliverance and Holy Day for Rootborn Defenses because of their populate contribution.
Also going to toss in a Grove of the Guardian incase my army of small golems isn't enough and I need a big swing to populate in the later games.

-2 Azor's Elocutors (Mainboard)
+2 Silverblade Paladin (Mainboard)
-2 Silverblade Paladin (Sideboard)
+2 Azor's Elocutors (Sideboard)
Went back to putting in Silverblade Paladin into the mainboard. While I do agree with many that it's probably overkill, it's way faster than Azor's Elocutors, the latter only being effective in a game that needs heavy stalling or a very slow start from my side. At best Azor's Elocutors is a Turn 10 win in this deck, which is too slow for what I'm aiming at.

Swapped out Skeletal Wurm for Reiver Demon. Not sure If I want to put in Liliana of the Dark Realms over Liliana Vess. With the ridiculous amount of creature removal here, Vess's ultimate is just a huge bitch slap. But I do like Dark Realms Liliana's ultimate because that would open up spots for some massive creatures like any Eldrazi.
Light equipments
Nikoguy, 12 years ago
I changed a lot of my mana heavy equipment for low equipment with a low cost such as Basilisk Collar, Accorder's Shield and Blade of the Bloodchief. This allows me to use Puresteel Paladin's prime ability. The Loam Lion doesn't work the way I want, so im looking for a substitute for those, also considering making the deck completely white since green doesn't add much at this point - Green Sun's Zenith would be nice though, if i could afford them.

Still looking for a cheaper bomb than Nefarox to play after Mutilate wipe, and also a better board stall than Typhoid rats that's CMC 3 or less. Barter in Blood could be a mini Mutilate in some cases.
Lots of revamping later
dantares25, 12 years ago
So, I've taken a lot of consideration to comments and suggestions. I've cleaned up a lot of holes, even with the million directions this deck can run with a lot of different combo/win con's...I absolutely love it. I have built the deck now and play testing it against real players, sometimes it runs a bit slow, but with my deck theme that is okay most of the time.
The big thing I struggle against is bant/azorius control with lots of bounce and counter. I have sideboarded Golgari Charm to stop board wipe and Slaughter Games to get rid of things like Unsummon Dramatic Rescue Snapcaster Mage Dissipate etc.
Play test it and tell me what you think!

Seen a few games with 2 or 3 Archwings, but the opponent is unable to answer them. Having one in reserve is a reasonable idea and a nasty surprize for the opponent when they deal with the first one; though, two in reserve (in hand) is overkill. One probably should move to the sideboard as I have never been able to cast more than one a turn so far.
Need a little more burn, need more reach for closing the game. A couple of Brimstone Volleys should help. What to drop? Trying out moving one Mogg Flunkies to the sideboard to make room, alongside the Archwing. Going to move out only two creatures as the Deck seems work quite well with the creatures and I don't want to upset that balance. 24 creatures (ignoring the Vexing Devils, but including the Angel Tombs; crazy eh?)
Made the following change: -1x Archwing Dragon, -1x Mogg Flunkies, +2x Brimstone Volley,
