Optimizing

After playing the deck a few times, I've condensed the deck and focused it a bit: - Added more Liliana's Reaver for the 4CMC slot. - Removed Sengir Vampire - Moved Lashwrithe from 2x to 4x. I found this card won me a lot of games I might have otherwise lost. - Moved Quag Sickness to sideboard.

x1 In the Web of War --> x1 Rage Reflections Rage Reflections will deal more damage then In the Web of War will later in the game. x1 Acidic Soil --> x1 Furnace of Rath To amplify the damage further across the board. x1 Mirran Crusader --> x1 Day of Judgment More mass destruction control, also combos well with my next edit. x1 Lightning Helix --> x1 Ghostway This combos well with my Austere Command, Wrath of God, and Day of Judgment. Kill everything, then swing.
2nd on a 16 player FNM
Keshiji, 11 years ago
Forgot to update this! Like two weeks ago I won the 2nd place in a FNM with 16 players! I don't remember everything but I'll try to summarize everything that I remember!
2-1 against a RDW
First match was hard, way too many creatures and ultimately lost to him because I didn't have enough cards to answer his damage! 2nd match was different tho, I had a lot of removal and answers to his cards (I sided a Blind Obedience, 3 Fiendslayer Paladin and 2 Pharika's Cure while I removed expensive cards as I needed more speed), the 2nd game was won and the dude had to mulligan on the 3rd plus I also had a lot of removal and a Thoughtseize.
2-0 against a Esper Control
In both games I had answers to his answers and couldn't control me. He also tried to cast an AEtherling on the first game but didn't have mana to actually "save" him so I just burned it with a Doom Blade. On the second game I had such advantage over him that at some point my Blood Baron of Vizkopa turned into a 10/10 flyer while I still had a Desecration Demon and an Obzedat, Ghost Council in play (and I removed his Supreme Veredict with my Sin Collector and Thoughtseize.
0-2 against a RDW (this dude won the 1st place)
Nothing to do here. It was pretty much the same deck as my first match up but this time I didn't draw enough removals and he got even better cards (I was forced to use Read the Bones and Underworld Connections in tricky moments. The second game was even faster than the first, I was overwhelmed on turn 6.
2-0 against a Colossal Gruul
My deck gave me the needed removal against this deck (plus he was very unlucky drawing cards and had to mulligan on both games), at the same time I had Thoughtseize in both matchs so it was indeed a tricky situation for him since he wasn't able to use his mana combos to cast his monsters in early games!
I ended 2nd in that FNM and only lost against a RDW (which is probably the worst matchup for my deck) and I have to say that I'm really satisfied with how it's performing at the moment. I also made some small changes and I hope they'll help for the next FNM!
Thanks for reading!

-3 Arrest +3 Hopeful Eidolon -4 Gift of Immortality +4 Indestructibility, since i always end up loosing all my auras in a creature whenever they target it with removal
Needs more control
Beardylocks, 11 years ago
Having played this a few times against my zombies and vampires, i've found it either gets a really great ramp and stomps, or it doesn't get going. I need more control to wipe the enemy's creatures. Adding some Bonfire of the Damned and Slagstorm
I GOT ANOTHER STORMBREATH DRAGOOOOOOON!

A friend of mine helped me get a second Stormbreath Dragon, so we're in business now. Yeehaw!

Land Overwhelming?
OakTerror, 11 years ago
I got rid of Adarkar Wastes for two reasons: 1) because I felt like having a fourth silence was waaaay more worth the extra land draw chance, and that the deck could still run tightly without it as I have a massive land draw chance anyways, and 2) because the life loss contradicted my goals somewhat, and if I need to I can switch in a different BW land.

Was digging through my cards and found a great card to compliment my deathtouch strategy.
-2 Boon of Erebos -1 Pharika's Cure +3 Crypt Incursion

So I am slowly getting the cards I need. I don't do alot of buying singles so most of my cards come from packs and trades. I will continue to keep the deck up to date.
Red to White
AmbushCommander, 11 years ago
Took out red and put in white. Performs better and adds more utility. Doubling season removed due to poor/slow performance
Its a Madness time!!!!

Out: Swiftfoot Boots, Admonition Angel In Hammer of Purphoros, Sire Of Insanity
Tough choice. Haste for 3 cmc. but no hexproof. I`m not sure. will test ???
Sire Of Insanity - want to see how fun he is. I hope my teammates wont punch me for this)))))
upd. Sire Of Insanity was win con. long game, I tutor him, then wipe table from enemy creatures. And then topdeck Desolation Angel. 3 opponents says GG. So I pretty happy with him - and opponents kind of liked him too.

Changes, making it my own spin of Jund
Papdaddy_44, 11 years ago
Main Board: I dropped 1 Stomping Ground for a Misty Rainforest, also replaced a Blackcleave Cliffs with a Marsh Flats to aid in making my mana base more flexible have better chances to get cards like lilaina of the veil and Phyrexian Arena. Talking about Phyrexian Arena I had three of them replacing 3 Dark Tutelage, which was killing me because whenever I had the trigger it always seemed like I had a four drop show up (in turn taking four damage). I have one less of Olivia Voldaren in the main board for a one of Erebos, God of the Dead, adding another threat with possibility of having more draw fuel if needed. I also took out 1 of Liliana of the Veil due to it making the deck clunky with 4, and added one Abrupt Decay instead. That little bit of removal is kinda needed. The final change with the main board is taking out a Blightning for one Life from the Loam giving me access to reuse my fetches or edges to either remove a pesky land or to filter out a few lands from my deck.
Side board: I can't currently remember what it looked like before the change to be honest, but I can reflect the additions that I have to it. I added a Blightning for the control match up, also added Thrun, the Last Troll for that control deck match up as well. Olivia Voldaren is also in the sideboard cause of wanting an extra just in case of needing a machine gun effect in the deck (against tons of creatures/fatties wanting to be killed or stolen). I also have Huntmaster of the Fells Flip for the added life gain, pressure creature on the other side of the table.

Daily MTG!!
Lord007, 11 years ago
This deck (albeit an older decklist) was featured on Daily MTG here.
A lot of new ideas were brought up and I've created the deck suggested in the article here:
Zhur Taactics
Standard
SCORE: 2 | 433 VIEWS
Also if you're interested in what I would do if I wasn't on a budget I added a link in the description of this deck.

Minus Seat of the Synod, Vault of Whispers Plus Island, Swamp There's no real advantage to the artifact lands, and basic lands are easier to tutor. Minus Traumatize Plus Life's Finale Since I'm not really trying to win by mill, Traumatize was mostly here to find something for Lazav to become; without Lazav in play, it's basically dead. Life's Finale lets me sweep the field while tutoring reanimation targets. Minus Whispering Madness, Capsize Plus Island, Swamp 36 lands seemed light for this deck. Every deck in my play group includes Reliquary Tower, so there's a good chance Whispering Madness gives my opponents card advantage, plus if I can't cipher it (or if I don't get a chance to swing with the creature), it's not very good anyway. Capsize is a great card, but I'm afraid the deck might be too mana hungry and it ends up being a worse Boomerang.

Ok, I think I found a way to make the counters work with Corpsejack Menace. Take out the 3x Savageborn Hydra and replace it with Corpsejack Menace x3

This deck has come a long way since I first put it together. Thanks to everyone for all their comments and suggestions. So far this deck is really doing well. It seems to hold its own against most decks out there right now, with the most problem really coming from super-fast aggro decks. Even then, if I can stabilize the board by about turn 4, I seem to be able to at least put up a good showing. At the moment, I'm not sure what else I can do to counter that type of strategy, but definitely open to suggestions. Thanks.

Thanks to a couple friends I've been able to borrow a few cards which I hope will make the deck faster but just as deadly. I changed the four Putrefy for two Hero's Downfall and two Ultimate Price so near enough a straight swap, I loose the artifact removal but they never seem to cause a threat. The Golgari Charm were swapped for Ratchet Bomb as the -1/-1 effect was the most common use as a mini board wipe, so ratchet bomb seemed a more more versatile option. Finally the Gaze of Granite is being changed for Merciless Eviction. This is still a 'maybe card', but was the only alternative board wipe I could find, and makes the removal of gods relatively easy. Sudeboard help is still needed, suggestions welcome thanks!
