Back from the brink
Finnzet, 11 years ago
Decided to return around Magic after a month's break. Didn't feel like playing around with the Grixis I had, so I dug this up and improved it a lot. While playtesting with friends, I won mono black devotion with lifegain and Nyx-Fleece Ram and a R/W burn deck with Favored Hoplite stopping the damage and gaining a bunch of life with Mortal's Ardor. Taking the deck to FNM tomorrow, just for the lols.

Diversifying donated permanent types
ChaosConfetti, 11 years ago
To diversify permanent types / reduce vulnerability to certain types of board wipes slightly, cut a handful of enchantments in favor of hard-to-kill walls to give away to vulnerable players and hard to kill artifacts.
Cuts:
- Brutal Suppression - funny but not worth the slot
- Burning Sands - will screw up game state more than I intended
- Celestial Dawn - don't want to selectively mess with an individual player
- Wild Research - not ideal for donation and don't think I'll be happy to see it
- Attunement - probably a little too strong to donate
- An-Zerrin Ruins - likely to imply selectively messing with a player
Additions:
- Darksteel Relic - "anyone shooting for metalcraft?" Otherwise cheap and indestructible
- Darksteel Brute - indestructible and helpful to a vulnerable player
- Wall of Vapor - tough to kill wall
- Fog Bank - tough to kill wall
- Guard Gomazoa - tough to kill wall
- Living Wall - tough to kill wall

Khans of Tarkir — TARKIR 1/3
It's getting harder and harder to get new upgrades but look's like Khans of Tarkir didn't let us down!
- Disdainful Stroke - Hard counter for all Commander-cards? Yes, please!
each well trained in the art of combat.

I took out the 3 Bloodchief Ascension. I play tested it, plus the mill aspect it has is much better. I added 3 sanpcaster mage. Snapcaster Mage

THE ALMIGHTY SURRAK
brayday, 11 years ago
Who would have guessed that Surrak would be going into the Temur deck right? Took out the 1 Arbor Colossus from the mainboard and a Hooded Hydra.

More Khans cards
Ruglefrugal, 11 years ago
Surrak Dragonclaw was added to the Tapped out card list, so I switched out Nylea, God of the Hunt, which was the placeholder, with Surrak Dragonclaw. Also switched Turn to Frog with Polymorphist's Jest.
So, KTK...
luizguedes, 11 years ago
Well, KTK came to T2 and estabilished new kinds of game. Metagame can be more slow, and my deck can be more faster. Added Soldier of the Pantheon to gain life and be protected and Flooded Strand (it's a "must have" for this deck). So, let's see in this FNM how it works.![Battlefield Thaumaturge feature for Come here, little... WTF??? [KTK included]](http://static.tappedout.net/mtg-cards/journey-into-nyx/battlefield-thaumaturge_6.jpg)

Potential upcoming changes

After extensive goldfish playtesting, I came to the following considerations:
-
Land is enough, sharp, or blatantly scarce in 43%, 43%, 14% of the cases respectively; so I will stick to 22 lands for now; if only, I will swap a swamp for the 4th Sulfurous Springs because I missed R for Blightning and Stromkirk Captain a couple of times. The reprint fetches ROCK and have many synergies, like reshuffling the library to put a black card on top of it instead of a land, for the Vampire Nocturnus conditional. 6 fetches appear to be enough, the deck being black with 7 red cards with one R symbol (and not tri-color or 50-50 dual color, for example, which would require probably 8 fetches). In spite of having some matches with too much land available, I never came to using Bump in the Night flashback cost.
-
Average goldfish is turn 7, so I'm removing the "aggro" tag.
-
Bloodline Keeper Flip has never, ever, used its ability to generate or pump tokens; 2x Mutavault seem to work better and I can't think of a reason in Modern to prefer generating a 2/2 token than swinging with a 3/3 flyer (only against casual kitchen play I could reliably hope to flip the Bloodline), so I am replacing it with +1 of the following: Bump in the Night, Blightning, and Gitaxian Probe, which have proven all more useful than a 3/3 flyer for 4 CMC, despite being all sorceries. Vampire Nocturnus can give flying to all the others. I just hope the acceleration effect of 2x Gitaxian Probe (which should be on average like having 22,5 lands) and the knowledge of the opponent's hand are worth against going against the Vampire Nocturnus conditional AND the hand disruption of Blightning and Thoughtseize...

Going for stasis lock
LT, 11 years ago
Well after a bit of soul searching I decided to do it. I mean, how could I not? And the more I though about it, the cooler it became. If I can get Tamiyo, the Moon Sage to go ultimate, hard to do I know, and have Reset and a counter spell in hand I'm golden. Never run out of mana myself and always be able to deal with an opponent. It's a lot of "ifs", but it's EDH. Anything can happen. I also need to figure out how to get Equipoise into the deck. As Stasis states that players skip their untap phase, there is no trigger causing anything to phase back into play as that happens at the beginning of a players untap phase. Nice! Suggestions welcome there.

remove:
- Scythe Specter people want to discard their low CMC creatures. We prefer passive mill that just happens, this is too active.
- Worn Powerstone replaced with Magus of the Coffers
- Everflowing Chalice replacing with Journeyer's Kite
- Lim-Dul the Necromancer is a card that has never worked in this deck; needs something specifically built around him to make it work efficiently
- 1 Swamp
Add in
- Profane Memento - we want passive life gain in this deck that doesn't generate too much aggro, this fits perfectly.
- Rings of Brighthearth lets us double up expensive Geth triggers for cheap.
- Journeyer's Kite we have a lot of mana around and a lot of basic land we can fish out.
- Magus of the Coffers can generate a lot of mana in this deck
- Cabal Coffers as above.

Update #3
Subject134127, 11 years ago
Help from CrazyCrackCarl has resulted in a much faster deck and better protection from damage/sacrifice. Will update the description shortly with the new combo's you can do.
Added in a few cards that might make the deck still a bit more unique. Retether is awesome against deck with board wipe and/or enchantment removal. May be sideboard worthy instead. Favor of the Overbeing gives creatures vigilance, which means I'm less open to attack from enemy heavy swingers, especially if I have one of the 8 first strike enchantments.
