I run a similar deck to this one, have you considered using Inner Calm, Outer Strength ? It's a great card for a surprise win; oftentimes it's at least an additional 20 damage coming at someone.

Dr3vvn45ty I can appreciate that. In my play testing I found that you are correct about the Tower. I wanted to run effects that would benefit from having half my library in my hand like Myojin of Life's Web , Inner Calm, Outer Strength , and Scent of Ivy , but in the end there were not enough of these benefits and Kruphix, God of Horizons would be a better commander for that anyway due to blue.

This is my decklist at the moment, and I would appreciate your feedback on what are often dead cards in your view (I have not been able to play against real opponents yet). Please keep in mind that I am not playing the infinite mana combos, so my goal is to stomp face with a backup Psychosis Crawler for pesty Spore Frog shenanigans in my play group.

I am not sure as to what you mean is the significance of Renowned Weaver , but how about swapping it for Druid Lyrist or Elvish Lyrist ?

Inner Calm, Outer Strength would be more useful in a deck that has card draw. I am sure you did not include cards like Harmonize , Sylvan Library , and even Mirri's Guile because Yisan is an effective tutor; but that just means the spell might just be an expensive Giant Growth . Might I suggest Heartwood Storyteller ? Sure you may have plenty of noncreature spells that could draw your opponents cards, but it has the same flavour as a bard; and in a four player game, no hands will go empty.

Yeah, I like the challenge of neglected themes.

I had Kodama's Might in there but swapped it for Inner Calm, Outer Strength because I found that hand size was consistently large with triggers from Elder Pine of Jukai et al. Plus, the kicker on Vines of Vastwood can serve the same function.

Phantom Tiger is a good suggestion -- I didn't get before that you could keep it around so well with an aura. Harbinger of Spring attracted me with its "protection from non-spirit creatures," but I agree it just isn't worth the cost in the end.

Traproot Kami is there because it's cheap to cast, on theme, slows down decks with flyers, and scales as the game goes on.

I agree artifact/enchantment removal makes more sense than bouncing lands back to player's libraries with Uproot.

Thanks!

Hi, all. I'm relatively new here, but not new to Magic. However, I was on a long hiatus, and just recently got back into Magic since my kids dug up some of my cards and got interested. Since then, Commander became a thing, and I am hooked on the format. I don't play competitively, mostly casual, and in as big a group I can find (right now its usually 3-4).

To give an idea of when I dropped off the map, it was during the Kamigawa rotation. At that time, I built a casual deck built around getting the hand size up and winging with creatures like Multani, Maro-Sorcerer, Descendant of Masumaro, Masumaro, First to Live, Maro, Sylvan Yeti, and Soramaro, First to Dream.

The idea was to use cards from the Kamigawa block to return lands to my hand, try to draw cards, and hit with the biggies. I ran cards like Oboro Envoy, Oboro Breezecaller, Floodbringer, Elder Pine of Jukai, Soratami Mirror-Mage, Inner Calm, Outer Strength, Graceful Adept, and Soratami Rainshaper. They all had some decent utility in bouncing the land cards. I didn't play EDH at the time, and the deck really never took off for me. I loved the concept behind it, but couldn't really make it work well in a 60-card casual format.

But now, with the possibilities of Commander at hand, I figured there's got to be some way to make this theme work, if not to win, at least to be able to play out for a while. I also had a casual deck I tried to build around Squirrel Wrangler and Groundskeeper, which would fit into a blue/green Commander deck, as well.

So, with all that said, I was hoping I could get some suggestions from the community here as for making this theme EDH-worthy. I'm looking at blue/green primarily, but not exclusively. To start, I need a Commander. I thought maybe Momir Vig, Simic Visionary, but maybe Edric, Spymaster of Trest would be better? Perhaps Tamiyo, Field Researcher?

Another problem I have is after being out for so long, I'm playing catch-up as to what's available. I figured the posters here probably have a good working knowledge of what would fit into a deck themed this way.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. I run fairly budget, but I've got some decent stuff in my collection, and will splurge at times if I think its worth it, so suggest anything.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

How would you like Descendant of Masumaro. He gets bigger and bigger as the game goes on due to minimizing your opponent's hand size while maximizing your own. Also, if you like getting your creatures big through your hand size, Inner Calm, Outer Strength can pump your commander to potentially one shot an opponent with commander damage or to make one of your large creatures even larger.
