Why not Soratami Rainshaper, Soratami Savant, Mothdust Changeling or Soratami Cloudskater. It seems like you should be running more than one moonfolk in your 99.

A friend in my playgroup used to play land bounce decks with a lot of Moonfolk

I think these would also be great for you:

Snips500 on [PDH] Tatyova Combo

Hi, I just recently brewed up a Tatyova list that is aiming to be competitive and I wanted to ask about a few of your choices. I acknowledge that you have likely tested and played this deck more often but I am mostly curious about some of your card choices and the direction that you took this list. You can find my deck here: ~PDH~ When Lands Came to Value Town (Tatyova)

  1. Why do you include so much card draw? I actually run zero spells or otherwise that draw me cards other than lands through Tatyova. When I first was putting the list together I had a bunch in the form of Ponder, Gush, and so on but ended up cutting them for other cards.

  2. Some of your Land fetchings spells just seem bad. I don't mean to offend but cards like Nature's Lore, Search for Tomorrow, Shoreline Ranger, Spoils of Victory, Farseek, Kodama's Reach and Rampant Growth just don't seem worth it to me. Instead of some of these fetch spells, I run 40 lands. I was also surprised that you are not running Dreamscape Artist (Springbloom Druid just seems like a worse version). It's like a repeatable Harrow and gets you two Tatyova triggers. I would argue that that card is one of the most powerful cards in my deck behind Tatyova ofc and Mystic Sanctuary.

  3. I decided to include more utility lands such as Bojuka Bog, Khalni Garden, and Sejiri Steppe. This decision on my part to include these was in spite of some of them not being in Green Blue but I though their value outweighs that downside. Bojuka Bog for example is better than Relic of Progenitus in this deck because you can flash it in with a creature like Walking Atlas and exile a target players bin and draw a card like relic. The thing is though that Bog is repeatable through your creatures that bounce your lands. Sejiri Steppe is similar in the way that its repeatable protection for Tatyova or another important creature.

  4. I noticed you only ran 1 land bouncing creature. In my deck, these guys power much of the value. With them and Halimar Depths I can basically ponder each turn at least once, it allows me to repeat the ETB effects that I mentioned above, and It also allows me to get a land drop in if I missed one for some reason. Floodbringer, Oboro Breezecaller, Soratami Rainshaper are the ones I run in addition.

  5. Now a few suggestions I have: Whispersilk Cloak, Power Sink, Universal Solvent, Vines of Vastwood, Scaretiller, Explorer's Scope (This works well in conjunction with Adventuring Gear and Aqueous Form), Seat of the Synod and Tree of Tales can be tutored with Trinket Mage, Library of Leng, Stone-Seeder Hierophant/Krosan Restorer, Spidersilk Armor (So the majority of your board doesn't die to Shrivel, Electrickery or something like that and harder for Pestilence and Crypt Rats.) Also Snap can ramp you is you have a land that taps for two and same with Frantic Search if you do want to play cantrips. Another win-con that will win you the game as soon as you combo off is Sage's Row Denizen that is assuming that you are not using Mystic Sanctuary.

Thank you for hearing me out. I am sure that there is a good reason for many of the cards I just questioned and I am excited to hear them to understand your deck better. If you have questions about my choices and reasoning I would be more than happy to explain further. I am trying to make the best Tatyova deck that I can and just wanted to know why a list with a similar end goal is running certain cards that I cut out.

Lastly, I just wanted to say that after looking through your list I am considering running: Lull and Moment's Peace because sometimes this deck has a problem stabilizing early because my playgroup sees my deck as a very large threat. Merchant Scroll, I don't know why I was not running it. Mystic Remora and Rhystic Study are just too good to pass up and I probably should have been running them. I have just one problem and that would be cutting cards. I would apreciate it if you could take a look at my list and tell me what you think.

I agree with pretty much all you are saying, was looking to cut some ramp in general to be honest cutting the signet seems like the best cut. In my testing i have noticed that 'small' ramp is ok but the deck really gets rolling once i have my 'big' ramp like Scapeshift or Splendid Reclamation so Boundless Realms seems to be perfect.

The Beastmaster Ascension combo sounds nice but i am probably gonna cut Sylvan Awakening in commander it seems pretty meh as it requires some additional set-up.

I very much agree with that tatyova needs protection but i would like that protection to be on theme so Sylvan Safekeeper is the card i am looking at for the moment, that being said even more protection sounds nice to be honest. The Soratami Rainshaper is pretty nice as well but just not enough.

I feel like you might be underestimating Retreat to Coralhelm it is amazing int this deck if i have some tap to put land in play card out as it allows infinite landfall. For that reason i am looking to add a Sakura-Tribe Scout aswell. With Ghost Town i can get infinite landfall triggers on my opponents end step. If i have any bounce effect i can get it whenever. With the Saprazzan Cove or the Rushwood Grove and the Stone-Seeder Hierophant it gives me infinite mana. At worst it allows me to have some psuedo card draw if i can't protect my commander. It is probably the best card in my deck at the moment. This might sound like magical Christmas land but I would say i go infinite with the card in about half of the games i play when playing new people as it is a bit of lesser known combo i think. When playing people who know the deck it gets targetted more than tatyova.

A few Moonfolk critters are amazing in a Tatyova deck. These are the ones I’ld use but any of them would work:

Any and or all of these would give you lots of lands to play every turn. Roil Elemental and Hedron Crab to take advantage of all the lands being played and maybe Patron of the Moonfolk to help you play all these lands. And with the infinite mana combos you have in here you could get infinite landfall triggers by using any of the Moonfolk and the Patron.

I agree with several statements that fragarach97 has touched upon. Undergrowth Champion is a phenomenal creature, as is Lotus Cobra (free mana for Moonfolk abilities, seriously, think about its inclusion despite its price). I would agree to cut out the Stalkers for cards with more synergy. Another suggestion I would give is Courser of Kruphix, which gives life in addition to land, and greatly assists in prolonging matches.

Sakura-Tribe Scout is a brilliant inclusion, but I am not a fan of Skyshroud Ranger. Instead, consider:

Moonfolk aren't necessarily bad, they just need the support from cards like those listed above. Some do pull more weight than others, however. I would lose Oboro Breezecaller if nothing else. Its ability is not worth its cost, and Floodbringer is much better for the slot (it's usually more beneficial to deprive an opponent a land than to untap one of your own for the same cost). Also, Uyo isn't as effective in this deck as it could be unless some of your own instants and sorceries are included as well. Other things to consider:

Here's a little gem I found that you might be interested in: Khalni Gem. I would recommend Soratami Rainshaper but she doesn't stand on her own very well. Other than that maybe Mother of Runes or Privileged Position. You're a little vulnerable to targeted removal; I know it's EDH but it still couldn't hurt. You're also a little light on artifact/enchantment removal outside of Aura Shards, so keeping in line with your combat emphasis, there's Trygon Predator. Also fantastic deck! This is exactly what EDH decks are supposed be; fun to play and fun to play against.

Hi, all. I'm relatively new here, but not new to Magic. However, I was on a long hiatus, and just recently got back into Magic since my kids dug up some of my cards and got interested. Since then, Commander became a thing, and I am hooked on the format. I don't play competitively, mostly casual, and in as big a group I can find (right now its usually 3-4).

To give an idea of when I dropped off the map, it was during the Kamigawa rotation. At that time, I built a casual deck built around getting the hand size up and winging with creatures like Multani, Maro-Sorcerer, Descendant of Masumaro, Masumaro, First to Live, Maro, Sylvan Yeti, and Soramaro, First to Dream.

The idea was to use cards from the Kamigawa block to return lands to my hand, try to draw cards, and hit with the biggies. I ran cards like Oboro Envoy, Oboro Breezecaller, Floodbringer, Elder Pine of Jukai, Soratami Mirror-Mage, Inner Calm, Outer Strength, Graceful Adept, and Soratami Rainshaper. They all had some decent utility in bouncing the land cards. I didn't play EDH at the time, and the deck really never took off for me. I loved the concept behind it, but couldn't really make it work well in a 60-card casual format.

But now, with the possibilities of Commander at hand, I figured there's got to be some way to make this theme work, if not to win, at least to be able to play out for a while. I also had a casual deck I tried to build around Squirrel Wrangler and Groundskeeper, which would fit into a blue/green Commander deck, as well.

So, with all that said, I was hoping I could get some suggestions from the community here as for making this theme EDH-worthy. I'm looking at blue/green primarily, but not exclusively. To start, I need a Commander. I thought maybe Momir Vig, Simic Visionary, but maybe Edric, Spymaster of Trest would be better? Perhaps Tamiyo, Field Researcher?

Another problem I have is after being out for so long, I'm playing catch-up as to what's available. I figured the posters here probably have a good working knowledge of what would fit into a deck themed this way.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. I run fairly budget, but I've got some decent stuff in my collection, and will splurge at times if I think its worth it, so suggest anything.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out!
