Foundry Assembler Discussion

Haldarious on Jhoira, Turn 0 Combo Captain

I was thinking about how to do this but I'm glad someone else took the effort. Frogmite can easily become a 0-cost card, as can Foundry Assembler.

Hi hedgehog_henry,

Your deck is drawing almost exclusively from the standard card pool, but with the modern pool there are some cards which are direct upgrades. For example you have Workshop Assistant but Myr Retriever does the same thing and costs less to play. Another example would be Foundry Assembler, in a mono black deck with just swamps, why not play Dross Golem instead?

Your deck also seems to want to do two things, be Aetherborn tribal and be an artifact deck, that sort of schism tends to result in a less optimal deck. Which brings me to my next point, you aren't running 4x of any of your cards, not even an all star like Gifted Aetherborn, this means your deck will have little or no consistency over several games.

If you were wanting to go the black artifact route then; Vault Skirge, Phylactery Lich and possibly Scrapheap Scrounger, Glaze Fiend or Painsmith alongside Chief of the Foundry Ornithopter and Foundry Inspector this would give a reasonable artifact based aggro structure.

If on the other-hand you really want to do Aetherborn tribal then; Midnight Entourage, Adaptive Automaton, Weaponcraft Enthusiast and possibly Defiant Salvager and Flayer Husk alongside Aetherborn Marauder and Gifted Aetherborn, this is probably more mid-range than aggro, but it would be a start.

My last point is on removal, if a removal spell costs more than it isn't really viable. In mono-black on a budget use Victim of Night, Smother or Grasp of Darkness and if your not on a budget Fatal Push.

I hope that is of some help, have fun brewing your deck.

Well the mana cost was a mistake when I checked it, because I totally forgot about the gimmick of Foundry Assembler with his ability to improvise. Not sure if the deck has enough chances to generate enough mana to make Scrap Trawler work.

Thats an awesome idea hippojackfrost1412! I replaced the Foundry Assembler with the Scrap Trawler, less mana cost and similiar stats.

Hi, there! Welcome to TappedOut and the wonderful world of Magic!

Since you're just starting out, my main suggestion would be to pick a theme and stick to it. Right now, you have a bunch of cards that fit into multiple strategies, but those cards don't necessarily all fit into the same strategy. Renegade Wheelsmith, for example, works great in a Vehicle deck, but you only have one Vehicle (Mobile Garrison). Foundry Assembler is excellent in a deck full of artifacts, but you don't have a ton of artifacts. Your Self-Assembler, for example, can only find one card in your deck, Foundry Assembler, but what do you do if you've already drawn it?

This is just my personal opinion, but I've always found Vehicle decks to be fun. Fleetwheel Cruiser, Sky Skiff, Untethered Express, and Renegade Freighter are some examples of good Vehicles, and you can use Skysovereign as your flagship card, so to speak. You'll also need creatures to crew your vehicles, though, and Veteran Motorist, Toolcraft Exemplar, Depala, Pilot Exemplar, and Gearshift Ace, as well as the aforementioned Renegade Wheelsmith would all work well. You can add Start Your Engines, Siege Modification, or more Aerial Modifications as support cards as well. Of course, this isn't the only possible strategy you could take. You can add more Self-Assemblers for your Self-Assemblers to find, or add cards like Terrarion to help Improvise your Foundry Assembler. There are a ton of possible routes you can go down, and I'm sure you'll be able to find one that fits your liking.

I hope this helps!

You're right, I use it as a keystone for several other decks that I have been experimenting with, idk how I forgot about it here. I have updated it to remove the Foundry Assembler and replaced it with Sram's Expertise expertise.
