Daily and Two-Mans

fadetoblack1183, 9 years ago

Went 5-0 in 2-man tournaments before going 3-1 in the Modern Daily. Only lost to Burn, in the two games he won I would have won the next turn, basically a race (and I lost :P ). Feeling good about the deck, taking it to a PTQ this weekend.

Round 1: Played against a very good tarmotwin player. Game one I went all out aggro and beat him. Game two I brought him to ten poison using a huge Inkmoth Nexus that was chock-full of +1/+1 counters because of Arcbound Ravager.

2-0

Round 2: Played against GR Tron. Game one he assembled the lands too late and I stomped him before he played any threats. Game two I Thoughtseized his Wurmcoil Engine and by the time he got another one out, I had enough counters on Arcbound Ravager to make Vault Skirge a winning threat.

2-0

Round 3: Played against an interesting BW Control-ish list with Smallpox and Lingering Souls. Game one he was caught on two and then three lands and Game two I Galvanic Blasted his Kataki, War's Wage and proceeded to Spell Pierce his Liliana of the Veil.

2-0

Round 4: Played against the Cryptic Command version of Scapeshift (instead of the Primeval Titan version). Game one I went too fast for him and finished him with a Galvanic Blast to the dome. Game two was grindy and I got blown out by two consecutive Engineered Explosives but finally I top-decked a Cranial Plating and presented lethal damage next turn but he top-decked Scapeshift and won. Game three was going in my favor until I got Shatterstormed. I drew into Mox Opal and used it to cast Blood Moon so he couldn't get the win off his Scapeshift. He proceeded to Shatterstorm again after I built up board presence but he didn't have three Islands to use Cryptic Command on my Blood Moon. I drew into Spellskite and later Cranial Plating and hit him for lethal.

2-1

Round 5: I was the only 4-0 player so I got paired down against UWR Twin. Game One I mulligan-ed to 5 and put up a good fight until he removed too many threats and he won off of the Restoration Angel + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker combo. Game two went basically the same way.

0-2

Recent changes have sought to add a bit more protection of my own components, as well as interaction and disruption of the opponent. I was quite happy with the array of tokens and mass attack I pushed out. Not so happy with my lack of evasion. I'd added in some more options for trample and unblockable.

just checking out another lock out creature angle with Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and seeing how Mystical Teachings as what is effectively a Gifts Ungiven 5-6 and a creature tutor for Snapcaster Mage and Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and seeing how they will fit the deck. any thoughts or comments on the pros and cons of these ideas will be appreciated.

Cows in Aggro Mode!

koth_of_the_bummer, 9 years ago

Alright, the cows are in for aggro test mode and back in Rakdos config. Will be changing back to DEGA if this doesn't work.

Minus... - Gauntlet of Power, Caged Sun - They're a little too slow to be useful as ramp here, and the anthem effect isn't strong enough to justify the slot. - Sacred Mesa - Luminarch Ascension just makes more sense in this list. Plus... + Pristine Talisman - Reasonably efficient ramp that will negate some early loss of life. + Eldrazi Monument - Gives our soldier tokens flying. Indestructibility and a small power boost are nice too. + Luminarch Ascension - Unlike Sacred Mesa, it's not a constant mana drain, and the creatures it produces are considerably stronger. My usual complaint about this card is that it makes its controller a target, but this deck wants to play in the red zone anyway.

Tonight was rather strange. I got nothing but planeswalkers and lands for the first few turns. But I managed to get two emblems off, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, and Kiora, the Crashing Wave. I was able to do so because I cleared the board with an overloaded Cyclonic Rift at the right time. 11/11 flying Krakens were too much for my opponents to handle. At the end of the round I still had out Garruk Wildspeaker and Vraska the Unseen as well as Divinity of Pride and Ghastlord of Fugue. They never got a chance to recover from that Cyclonic Rift. Never saw a god this game, and I still won. Very surprising.
