Webbing Upgrades —Feb. 22, 2017

Went ahead and updated this last week to both improve consistency and up the power level a little, while subsequently increasing the cost a bit as well. Still fairly budget though.

Added in some maybeboard cards and suggestions like Abzan Beastmaster, Archetype of Finality, Eternal Witness, Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper, Lifecrafter's Bestiary, Panharmonicon, Illusionist's Bracers, and Strionic Resonator.

My first impression is that you could use some more ramp e.g. Explosive Vegetation, or Harrow, but perhaps playing green so much lately has left me spoiled.

I like what you're doing with the deathtouch, but keeping it strictly spiders does make it more difficult. If you're interested in adding more you could consider Touch of Moonglove or Basilisk Collar.

I'd remove Regeneration as it's too much of a single use with low play value in my opinion, but if you really want to regenerate, maybe Swarmyard? You could also combine Regeneration and Steely Resolve by getting Asceticism. (These cards do cost a little bit more though)

For attacking, you could use Overrun, Overwhelming Stampede, or Beastmaster Ascension. And if you're going to rely on Assault Formation, Tower Defense is a cheap buff you could also throw on.

Also, try to get an Arachnoid, if you put it into your graveyard it counts as two card types, makes Delirium easier :).

Thanks Bou, appreciate the feedback. Would love to add Basilisk Collar and Swarmyard, but they are both a little pricey. (as you can see this deck is pretty low budget). I like the Asceticism and Tower Defense suggestions too.

I have a few of the buff all creatures cards in the maybeboard, want to see how it plays without them first.

The Arachnoid I've had mixed feelings about. 6 for a 2/6 seems steep. I get the Delirium aspect of wanting him in there tho. Again I think I may playtest without and if I think I need some more cards to help with Delirium, I'll seek that out.

Thanks SirOrionDrake! I am still waiting to playtest it but I think it will be a lot of fun.

In the first playtest of this in a 4 player game, it did exactly what it was designed to do, keep others the fuck away. A spawning ground of deathtouching spiders made most opponents choose not to attack me and focus elsewhere. I didn't end up winning, but I wasn't targeted much with a wall of spiders. I didn't end up attacking much either. Just kindof hanging out in my web building up to hit delirium and start biting for big damage with Ish' behind my wall of spiders. Not the most interactive deck in test 1, but did pretty much what I expected.

Would love to know how this plays 1v1. Also, what would you add to help against cards with Indestructible? (cough Eldrazi cough)

The only time I've played this 1v1 so far was vs tribal birds. And I pumped out so many spiders while my opponent had a rough draw and he conceded before I could even get Ish out. I can update when I've played a few more 1v1 matches.

For dealing with indestructible, I'd include:Sever the Bloodline, Gild, Tragic Slip, or use Eldrazi Monument to make your own indestructibles.

would Giant Spider be of use to you? you should also add Mantle of Webs and maybe Hitchclaw Recluse

Cool deck! Check my spider deck out when you have some time. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

Thanks for looking Squirrel_of_War! I like your spider deck as well. I do already have the Bow of Nylea in there. The archetype is badass for sure, but since its not a spider, I'm going to leave it as a maybe for now. I may borrow a few other ideas from your deck though. Cheers!

Went 2-0 vs Krenko goblin tribal. Hell yes!

As an avid tribal player I just wanted to pop in and let you know:

A deck can still be tribal if it runs more than one type of creature. If 90% of your creatures are spiders, its still spider tribal. Don;t be afraid to run a couple off type creatures to help your deck run smoother. For instance if I am in green I am always running Eternal Witness. Grave Sifter is another card that has proved incredibly useful in my spider deck.

Abzan Beastmaster has proven to be a cheap and relatively effective way to keep the spiders coming and Deathcap Cultivator fits with your delirium theme and love of deathtouch while helping you get to Ish just a little sooner.

The new card Lifecrafter's Bestiary is something I am going to try out for draw as well. Phyrexian Arena on its own wasn't cutting it.

If you are having trouble attacking with your low power dudes Cover of Darkness can be a game winner against any non-black deck.

Lastly if you want a solid delirium enabler Autumnal Gloom  Flip has been great when I have played it. Turning it into a creature is just a bonus.

Thanks LittleBlueHero! I am running an insect and a human shaman (who can be sac'd into a spider) ha. but yeah I hear ya. There were just so many spiders to consider, i didnt make room for much else. As I develop this you have some great suggestions.

Grave sifter would be a sick addition. Eternal witness is always great with graveyard action. The beastmaster and lifecrafter are both great ideas to boost carddraw. Deathcap and Gloom were considered originally, but omitted in the end, may bring them back. Thanks again for looking!

If only there was black or green flicker effects(like Cloudshift)... That would be killer for the Grafwidow. I've looked around a bit but I can't find much in Golgari colors. If there is such a thing I think it would be a good addition.

Great deck! +1! I love budget decks :P

If you'd wanna check out my budget EDH deck, that would be awesome! Alesha, Who Smiles at Her Bank Account

Thanks Lord.of.Innistrad, the only one that I know of is Conjurer's Closet which does some awesome work here. Perhaps Strionic Resonator would work to copy the delirium trigger. I'm sure there's gotta be some other artifacts that might be able to take advantage of Ish...

I've been looking at building an Ishkana deck, too. I was looking at mine from more of an online place, budget-wise, but I checked out the differences between our decks, and I think there are quite a few budget cards that would help: Tree of Tales and Vault of Whispers both net two types when milled. Vessel of Nascency was a standard in Standard Delirium, since it immediately puts and enchantment in your graveyard. Syphon Mind and Harmonize are both great value cards. Millikin is a great fit in Ishkanah decks, since it can ramp, chump to put two types in the graveyard, and mill, all on its own. Commander's Sphere is the same. It can ramp you from 4 to 5 mana and cycle to fuel delirium as early as turn 4. Foul Renewal should be pretty powerful in this deck, and I had Sight of the Scalelords and Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper for the same toughness reasons. Finally, the piece of tech I'm proudest of is Champion of Stray Souls. If you're already milling creatures into your graveyard, then sacking 3 1/2 spider tokens for 3 real creatures is fantastic, especially since you can let Ishkanah go to the graveyard be be re-risen with fresh tokens. If you move away from budget options, I also think Buried Alive is a good choice. Choosing Arachnoid, nyxweaver, and a fattie, you get Delirium and a reanimation target. I also included a land tutor package. Here's my full list: Spiders.

If you're looking for flicker effects Cloudstone Curio+Cryptic Gateway and you have infinite spiders. Ashnod's Altar+Nim Deathmantle does the same thing.

Thanks triproberts12, some good suggestions. There are so many cards that fit in with this general, I'm having trouble narrowing it down. I meant to get those artifact lands in there, thanks for reminding me, might add the 'colorless' one as well. The Champion could do some work here. I may consider that down the road also with some of the others. I added cmdr sphere and got Ikra in from my maybeboard finally. Again would love to get cards like buried alive and entomb in here, but theres just so many other possibilities as well. So far, I've gotten delirium quickly except for a couple times, I may have too many delirium enablers. I'll see in further testing.

Thanks Squirrel_of_War! Not sure I want to go infinite with the spiders (yet?). But thanks for the heads up, those are some cool combos. I might try to get Cryptic Gateway in there soon tho, that could be fun popping more spiders out of thin air.
