Sideboard

This is the Third Revision of the deck.

A what-if archetype if "Red Deck Wins" and "WG Hatebears" had a baby. Blending cards like Eidolon of the Great Revel and Harsh Mentor, mixed with hatebears-tech like Aven Mindcensor and Leonin Arbiter, you end up with a deck that rivals the irritations caused by "Death & Taxes."

This deck is still a work-in-progress, but through play-testing, the deck has made good progress against other competitive decks in the format and is worth some investigation. For now, it is Tier 3-4.

"Canadian Taxes" is a creature-control deck with a rather strong end-game, and is sort-of an oddball version of your standard Boros-Pair coloured archetypes which are usually heavily token-based. Your main goal is to disrupt your opponent as much as possible. Unlike "WG Hatebears" goal, you still allow your opponent to cast or accomplish tasks, but punish them for everything they do by slowly burning them. All the red creatures in the library cause some form of gradual burn, while the white creatures are meant to disable specific options. Aether Vial grants you quick-access to most of your creatures for free early on, and enables the casting of white creatures when Magus of the Moon lands onto the battlefield.

Prison Power!!!

Your bread and butter of the deck is your turn one Aether Vial and constant bashing of your opponent's spell-casting. During points in the game where you can't cast white creatures, Aether Vial comes through and allows you to make your opponents board-state even worst. Aether Vial-casting Thalia, Guardian of Thraben to make their Fatal Push or Mana Leak spells cost one more can make all the difference.

The cool thing about this archetype is it's advantage over non-red decks with the menacing Blood Moon threat, while at the same time, preventing them from searching for lands with creatures like Leonin Arbiter. What "Canadian Taxes" is trying to do is lock your opponent out of the game through loss of coloured-mana, and slow them down enough so all the damage dealt by creatures like Eidolon of the Great Revel's and other bears deplete their life.

Key plays for the deck would be something like casting Path to Exile targeting an opponent's creature while a Aven Mindcensor or Leonin Arbiter is on the battlefield. To lock them out even further, you can have Magus of the Moon on the battlefield, or use Ghost Quarter's to destroy a Manland or a Basic Land to further lock them out if a Blood Moon effect was played.

For lands, we are running around 4-6 Fetch Lands. The reason why we don't run more is because of the global land shut-downs we run in the deck, like Leonin Arbiter. Having to pay to find another land is not a good-way to be playing for us. We are running Needle Spires as our obligatory Manland to use for blocks and late-game attacks after a board-wipe. Slayers' Stronghold is also in the deck to buff and give haste to creatures like Flickerwisp.

Win Conditions

There is no immediately-obvious win condition to the library. What this deck excels at is slowly letting your opponent burn themselves into a bad-spot where there is no coming back. Eidolon of the Great Revel punishes your opponent every time they try to cast a simple spell like Path to Exile and Serum Visions. Be wary, as you are affected by this as well! Harsh Mentor on the other hand only affects your opponent, and harms them whenever they tap something that isn't to gain mana. This could even be a Fetch Land! The amount of damage your opponent does to them self during the natural game is usually between 3-7 points, and this increases the amount a ton, which inevitably will force them to slow down!

The deck has a lot of small creatures that can start doing damage early on, and with the gradual burning the opponent undergoes, they will get knocked out. Slow and steady wins the race, right? Your creatures are very important in getting to your win condition. For these reasons, you require either a complete lock-out or a bomb to knock out your opponent. Previous versions of the deck used Chandra, Torch of Defiance, Nahiri, the Harbinger, and Stormbreath Dragon. The current version is to use the oppressive Balefire Liege.

The Sideboard and Suggestions

Sideboard is up for debate and should be revised on your local meta. The deck is pretty tight on what is required, below is what is suggested if a card is not being as useful as you may like.
