Hey all just thought I would toss this out there to see what other people's rare if never seen commander build are. I think my rarest one is led by Reveka, Wizard Savant it's pinger tribal build. Have fun look forward to your responses. Talk up those obscure builds. Peace!

That's cool. I've never seen that cmdr built around that befor. And I've never seen that card befor. I feel there are just so many better options that that card gets put aside and forgotten about.

I've built 4 decks that I would consider having a unique cmdr. I can only share the decks of 2 of them with you today.

The first deck was built around Kiku, Night's Flower. Bring her out and holding the 4 mana up over your opponents head was a sweet tactic that caused your opponents to change what spells they are gonna play. So that was fun. That deck I built a while back and I can't share that with you.

The second unique cmdr I built around is Kagemaro, First to Suffer, similar to Kiku, holding a board wipe over peoples heads is a lil bit of a struggle for your opponents to play around. Because this deck is built to abuse board wipes its pretty fun for me. Not anybody else though. They all hate it. Nobody likes getting board wiped over and over again. Oh it's also a Demon tribal. That deck can be found right here

The third deck is built around Multani, Maro-Sorcerer, the original concept of the deck was to have every creature in the deck to have power and toughness greater than its casting cost. Also to have as many ways or drawing cards from casting creatures. That deck has evolved alot. You can see it here

The fourth and last unique cmdr I built a deck around is Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker. I built this deck to have tons of protection against removal. So naturally it was life gain, enchantments, and angel's with recursion built in. And a win condition that was Avacyn, Angel of Hope + Worldslayer. I don't have that deck on tapped out either. I still have this deck though.

I hope you enjoyed that and I'd also like to hear about some more unique decks and cmdr's

Wow, great thread idea! I love seeing what other obscure commanders folks are running!

My original EDH deck was a creepy crawlies theme (insects, spiders, scorpions, and oozes) that used Xira Arien. I don’t really see any other decks with her at the helm. The deck is retired now but it was a pretty fun concept!

The deck I use the most now is my old-border jank deck with Balthor the Defiled as the commander. It is by far my favorite thing to play with :) Interestingly, Balthor seems to have a fair number more decks in his name. When I started my build almost 2 years ago, he had around 90 decks on EDHRec; I’m not sure why but he has double that now.

I guess Mairsil, the Pretender would be mine. There was some talk about him for awhile but he seems pretty much off everyone's radar and I've never seen him in the wild. Even when he was new. His effect is rather weird to build around too, with only 2 other commanders that'd I'd consider to be similar.

I didn't think it was very "rare", uncommon maybe (lol), is Yargle, Glutton of Urborg.. I've never seen another one "in the wild", and the reactions from those who have never faced it before are rather amusing..

It depends on if you think the commander is rare or if you think the deck itself is rare. I have a Marisi, Breaker of the Coil enchantress deck where about 70% of the cards can't be found on the synnergy or common cards pages for the commander... It is a pretty rare version of Marisi.. Who I do not believe is the most rare commander.

I've never seen anyone else use Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch as a primary commander which is a shame because her ability is great with tribute cards.

EDH as a format never especially enchanted me, so more often than not the only reason I'd design a deck is around an especially odd or challenging commander.

Blind Seer is an absolute house that nobody sees coming. He turns Flash Flood, Hydroblast and Blue Elemental Blast into to blow up any permanent, or basically a monoblue Vindicate. Douse can likewise counter spells at will. Messing with colours completely opens up a lot of old school hosers, especially those that freely blow up permanents in mono blue. You can see the list here: Colorblind.

Another one I'm fond of is the never-seen Iname, Death Aspect, who can rather uniquely dump 30 or 40 Spirits into your graveyard all at once. From there, Living Death, Lotleth Giant or Mortal Combat can seal the deal. More of a combo deck, it doesn't have as much variety, but I guarantee it's a commander you'll never see across from you at the table. FINISH HIM

On the challenging side of things, I'm a big fan of Haakon, Stromgald Scourge. Since you literally cannot play him from the command zone, the only ways to make him accessible are Command Beacon and the more recent Netherborn Altar. You have to really jump through some hoops to get him in your graveyard where he can finally be played, but having the hurdle before his funky ability can be abused is sort of a fun game-within-a-game. I think my most unusual commander is Dromar, the Banisher in Color Shift. Less unusual as a commander, but more unusual as a deck, is my Xantcha, Sleeper Agent pure friendliness group hug, Everyone gets to party! Everyone's invited!.

Basically, I usually mess with the table rather than try for a win.

Judging by EDHREC ranking, my rarest deck is by far Kumano, Master Yamabushi, a mono red, sorta control, kinda big mana, prisony deck with a lot of deathtouch equipment. It's a mono red deck that aims to win without combat, which is kinda rare in itself.

I have decks for each of the Amonkhet gods (Bontu is the only one that's public), which all have pitiful EDHREC ranks. Like griffstick, I have a Multani, Maro-Sorcerer deck that's one of my favorites.

The commanders themselves may not be rare but the partner combinations of Tormod, the Desecrator/Esior, Wardwing Familiar and Sengir, the Dark Baron/Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar are also pretty low on the EDHREC rankings.

I've kind of been debating building a Jolrael, Empress of Beasts deck. Ramp like a madman, animate like 30 forests at once and swing away!

I love seeing decklists for almost any "rare" commander, though. I've seen more than enough Atraxa, Kenrith and Korvold lists to last me a while.

I love stupidly obscure commanders. I have a Lady Zhurong, Warrior Queen voltron deck that is pretty stupid and fun. I also have a Diaochan, Artful Beauty kinda politics deck that is weird too. I don’t know why this one is more rare, but I have Varis, Silverymoon Ranger as my elfball commander and he is SO good.

I just got my first four-player win yesterday with my Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer Antique Shop deck. I usually don’t win many games, but Dingus Staff and Armageddon Clock can sneak up on you.

My decks tend to lean more toward the rare builds then the rare commanders. In terms of standouts, I've got a Gahiji, Honored One that is a Primal Surge superfriends deck, and my Saskia the Unyielding is ooze tribal. With the addition of companion and parter to commander, I really like building within restrictions, so my Kraum, Ludevic's Opus/Tymna the Weaver/Obosh, the Preypiercer (all odd wheel/combo) stands out as a rarer commander build

If I had to take a guess, I'd say my rarest commander is mutant tribal deck helmed by Louvaq, The Abberant, which my playgroup is kind enough to let me run.

I have Ardenn paired with Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar and having orzhov equipment deck and not using swords of x&y

My shaskia build is all Legendary Ladies

I have a Thrasios, Triton Hero Vial Smasher the Fierce build then is mainly a valakut deck the primary win con is bolting the table with mountains

I also have a Horobi, Death's Wail deck

According to EDHrec, my most obscure commander decks are the following:

Isareth the Awakener: 39 decks. Its a rat colony-based commander deck so might not count but there it is.
Glissa Sunseeker: 47 decks. Its a fun and annoying deck that makes stuff artifacts and then blows them up.
Patron of the Kitsune:180 decks. Annoying deck that gains a stupid life total with lame win conditions. I havent played it in a long time.

Props to the Blind Seer decks! I love that card.

This is the rarest one I have.

I made it as part of a building challenge.

Whitewash [Pauper]

The Commander is Gwafa.

hejtmane how has Horobi performed for you and how do you run him? I'm sorta wanting to bring him back as I never got to give him a fair shot before cannibalizing the deck.

KBK7101 unfortunately Ashaya, Soul of the Wild does the same thing but is a static effect. Granted Ashaya doesn't make them 3/3's. But I hadn't heard of Jolrael until now though lol

KBK7101 forgive my ignorance. Ashaya does not animate your lands just makes your creatures count as forests. Curse the lack of that edit button and disregard my last post. Though Ashaya could turn your dorks into 3/3's with Jolrael
