It's also important to note that this is far from the first time Wizards has explicitly went against EDH philosophy in their design. The Eminence mechanic, Commander Ninjuitsu, and Planeswalkers that get around the rules by boldly saying 'This can be your commander' are just a couple instances. So, I think it's fair to assume that this is a well they will continue to draw from many, many times in the future.

It's an expensive cmc but Havoc Demon could be brutal for your opponents to deal with as you loop its death trigger

Awesome to hear you and your mom's friend are getting into Magic! If you go to a local game store, many of them will have what's called a 'Welcome Deck.' These are decks that the makers of the game send to game stores in the hopes of teaching new players how to play and get them started with some cards. They are not usually advertised on shelves but if you ask in person, they should be free to anyone interested in learning how to play.

I saw that mono red is very strong in pauper. Crypt Incursion also seems like a good one to swap in to eat our own graveyard in exchange for life. Also good against graveyard shenanigans too! But the single target graveyard interaction is also definitely something to consider

Thank you so much for your support and suggestion, legendofa! Horde is a cool one for sure. The high end of this deck is definitely going to need some tinkering and it's definitely worth trying out.

I'm curious if you have any suggestions for sideboarding as well? New to pauper and would love any input!

Oh that's a cool idea!

You could also consider making this deck modular! You could have one pile of singleton clerics and another pile of just apostles (along with any specific synergy pieces for each). A third, bigger pile, which include all the other pieces of your deck, would be your stable shell. At the beginning of each game, you could choose or randomly pick which cleric pile you shuffle into your shell ^.^ I personally find modular builds very fun and keeps decks very interesting and fresh. It also allows you to build into different power levels, should that be of interest to you.
