Haakon, Stromgald Scourge has a pretty funky ability, letting you play knights from your graveyard again and again. True to form, he himself can be played from the graveyard! He could make for a pretty fun and resilient commander in a monoblack knight deck... but hold on a minute. Haakon comes with an intriguing drawback: you can only play him from the graveyard. In EDH, this "intriguing drawback" is more like a "massive, uniquely crippling limitation." You can't play him from your hand, sure, but you also definitely can't play him from the command zone. So how can you ever hope to field this fool?

Thankfully, there are two sneaky workarounds: Command Beacon and Netherborn Altar both let you bypass the casting of your commander by sliding them directly into your hand. From there, you can discard Haakon as usual and then proceed as planned. The deck has a pretty heavy number of tutors, helping to ensure you can get one or the other in order to get your commander into play.

Want something flashy before you go? Okay, uhhh... Haakon with Phyrexian Altar and any one-mana knight equals infinite comes-into-play and dies triggers. What else are you going to use those tutors for once you got your commander in hand?
