Low Bracket Variant: Ante

Commander / EDH Bracket 1 BRG (Jund)

Hard to say exactly what bracket this deck is. But the plan was a bracket 1, although, could be a 2 also. Looks similar to various precons, without any goofy theme or whatever, but you can certainly build this however you want.

Either way, the intent is to build a super cheap, decently playable deck, that plays for Ante. I own too many cards as I’ve been playing for decades, so, building lower powered decks is difficult (never mind, sometimes what I think is relatively high, plays like garbage, and a lot of that is actually just due to poor luck instead of not being able to play correctly. I’m a solidly competent player regardless…… the luck is just never on my side)

But I digress. I’ve played CMDer with Ante well in the past just for kicks and had a decent time.

Our rules were simple, if anyone wants the card they ante’d back, you must trade it back to them for something else. If it was a very high value card (anything above $5), like a dual land perhaps, you could only get something back in trade of no more than $2-3, this is a casual game of ante, we’re not out here to crush souls, just something small on the line. In addition, it was encouraged to draw/alter on the card you were ante’ing, only if it was any of the ante cards themselves (I have at least 1 jeweled bird that’s been colored in, in some way)

However, this isn’t how I want to play this currently, at least value wise, alter’s are still great though. I’m changing the rule to where the deck can’t have anything above $2 in value per card. (Although, when I built mine, certainly possible that there’s a couple that breached that, with out my knowledge at the time, but whatever, I’m not gonna go back now, and nothing is terribly valuable regardless)

All Ante cards are legal, everything else follows the standard CMDer rules (although, I encourage not running Amulet of Quoz, as it’s just kind of stupid broken…, but whatever, I’m not your mom)

Jund was what I went with, as that allows all ante cards you could include. The rest of the deck list was basically a hodgepodge of bulk trade binder fodder, with a couple less than ideal mana rocks and only 1 pseudo tutor, with a solid amount of draw to cover. I do still want the deck to win sometimes, but obviously is no real loss if it doesn’t.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by.
