Clever Concealment and Shroud/Protection

Asked by Lord_of_Lords 11 months ago

I have a question about Clever Concealment. It's text specifically says "Any number of target nonland permanents you control phrase out". In italics, it adds "Treat them and anything attached to them as though they don't exist until your next turn."

Let's say I have a creature out with equipped with Lightning Greaves or Sword of Hearth and Home, giving it shroud or protection from white respectively. I obviously can't target the creature with Clever Concealment, but can I target the equipment attached to them? Would the creature phase out as well, or just the equipment?

You can phase out the equipment because it itself does not have shroud/protection. Phasing out equipment (and auras) doesn't phase out the permanent it is attached to.

The reminder text is hinting at indirect phasing, which means that when a permanent phases out any fortifications, auras, or equipment attached to it also phases out. It is a one way relationship though.

That's what I suspected. Thank you!
