Copius Amounts of G/W Tokens!

entheogenius119, 13 years ago

Decklist updated. Took the version 2.0 for a test run and it dominated pretty hard. The only deck that came close to beating it was R/B Vamps. I highly suggest building a deck like this, it's just so fun lol

First FNM Win!

derpor, 13 years ago

I updated the decklist to better fetch my combo pieces. Ponder and Evolving Wilds really did the trick, while also getting me the land I needed. Altogether, I run 10 cantrips in the mainboard (16, if you count the fetchlands). I think all of that helped me play a more consistent game. Final Results: (2-1); (3-0) [playoffs, winning the rematch in the final round against my earlier loss]

Opponents in rough order of difficulty:

Mono-black tempo (1-2)(2-0)

Wolf Run Ramp (midrangeish) (2-1)

Random good cards thrown together, sans red. (2-0)

Controlled bu/rn (2-0)

The R/W intro deck from DA (2-0)

The only thing I need now is a playset of Darkslick Shores

Learned how to make this deck better, removed birthing pod, to add brimstone volley, kessig wolf run and overrun.

Progress

kairyu815, 13 years ago

Well, figured I'd give an update with this. Changed the title, because Reckless Waif  Flip is no longer in this deck. So Reckless Delver didn't really fit.

Anyway, this deck has now won several FNMs for me, as well as DKA Gameday. So it deserves to be deckcycled. It's powerful and aggressive. I'd highly recommend this deck for anybody who wants to have a bit of fun.Note that it's VERY important to side in the Ratchet Bombs AND whipflares against Spirits and Tokens. This deck falls flat against Lingering Souls, and those cards will help you a lot.

Let's try it

I've been playing magic for a while but here is my first attempt at a standard deck... Low budget (exept for the primeval Titan that a friend traded me). The goal is to turn anything I can into an artifact with liquidmetal coating and then destroying it with an artifact kill (ancient grudge should be the star here) Slagstorm and whipflare is to kill tokens and small dudes... could serve as direct damage but less probable Faithless loothing for deck consistency (not sure how many should I put) Mimic vat for redundancy (again... is 1 enought and is 2 too much?) Kuldotha Phoenix are there to smash faces and can be recurrend when they die if i have metalcraft (targetting your own permanent with a liquidmetal coating gives you 2 artifacts right there. That's pretty much it for now... any ideas for updates? (No primeval titan or hunstmaster please)... I'm not sure about my numbers so please feel free to comments

I changed it from Vintage to Legacy.

Bewble, 13 years ago

I have updated the deck. I have added 4x Bloodghast instead of the Hexmages, for increased annoyance. Also, the Dismember, which was 3 black mana or 4 life and 1 black, has been switched with Smother, which also supports green mana for the colorless, making it more commom to have the mana for.

Tuesday the 14th at Hammer Hall Gaming in Jacksonville, FL. I came 4th over all out of 14 people. I was beaten by Jung Wolf Run which was amazing. And stupid Turbo Fog. I also got beat by Humans with the Mirrion Crusader and Angelic Destiny Combo. I went 1-2 in that match. Tuesday the 28th I am entering in tournament tonight. I changed somethings around here and there and I can't wait to see how it works out.

More Changes

I've play tested some cards added by the original creator and seen how well they work together. I'm missing 1x Hero but I've got everything else now. Will be dropping the final Elspeth out and bringing in that Hero.

Retrospect

ItsDanimal, 13 years ago

Looking at the deck after submission makes me think there are not enough creatures. Maybe I should take out more Geistflames and add the Undying zombie that can't block. I like Geralf's Messenger, but triple black may be too hard to do.

Intangibility Needed

ObiWanShinobi, 13 years ago

I want to include 2 Intangible Virtues but what should be dropped to make room? Suggestions? Also, no more Thalia.

Went 3 and 1

Lost to a white humans deck. Swapping out Geralf's Messenger for Pierce Strider. 3b version 4 is better imo since geralf's messenger doesn't benefit from Heartless Summoning

Deck Disassembled

Sporkybay, 13 years ago

Deck Disassembled While some of the combos that I intended this deck to use were effective, the deck was not well balanced enough to deal with a semi-nerfed delver or wolf run ramp deck my friend had created. I think there's still hope here for a decent casual deck with the right tweaking, and I plan on investigating it before the older cards rotate out of Standard.

Card by Card Analysis

ottosmagic13, 13 years ago

So I'm splitting this into three groups Combo Pieces, Utility Cards, and Lands. I'll try to focus on the non-combo aspects of the combo pieces. I'll breakdown some of the cards in the sideboard as well but it's a work in progress and meta dependant.

Combo Pieces

Bloodline Keeper  Flip - See below for combo. Also good at pumping out tokens that can trade with flipped delvers all day. Flipping him is a good back-up aggro plan, especially when you get multiples and can cheat him out with heartless summoning.

Civilized Scholar  Flip - See below.

Grimgrin, Corpse-Born - See below for combo. Also a good "Plan C," dropping him and going aggro is never a bad plan.

Havengul Lich - See below

Heartless Summoning - See below

Perilous Myr - Useful even when not assembled into the myrchine gun; Often it is a 2-1 when blocking. Also turns into a free shock when Heartless is out.

Trespassing Souleater - The only combo piece that I don't see myself ever hardcasting as it provides little use outside of the combo, hence miser status. Possibly as a chump blocker if desperate.

Utility Cards:

Black Sun's Zenith - It's BSZ, it likes to munch on tokens and hexproof guys. Miser copy for a safety net.

Ratchet Bomb - Found myself constantly siding out tresspassing souleater and more often than not siding in Ratchet Bomb so I made the switch.

Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, and Geth's Verdict - Same purpose different audiences. Kill off baddy to buy me some time. Geth's might swap with second GFtT in board.

Forbidden Alchemy - See below

Liliana of the Veil - Additional untargeted creature removal. Synergistic discard.

Phantasmal Image - Nice to remove opposing legendary trouble makers like Thrun and Geist of St. Traft, or copy one of my guys when in aggro mode.

Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon - See below.

Spellskite - Added protection for the combo. Also stalls out an opponents early attacker for a turn or two.

Lands

Darkslick Shores - More valuable here than drowned catacomb, those first three turns need an untapped source. Drowned Catacomb - Great fixing, multiples early on can create a slight hiccup Nephalia Drownyard - More for self-mill but also can serve as a win-con vs U/B control game 2&3 Land Split - As for the basics I think I've got the split down. I started to playtest the deck so I'll iron things like that out as I go.

Big update, there are a couple underlying themes in this deck, the easiest to find is the search for mana. looking for land, adding multiple mana to my manapool, etc etc. the next is making a lot of card draw and playing cards directly from the deck. the faster i can get stuff out onto the field the better. simple little things here and there, adding in ways to deal damage if i'm being blocked, by giving trample/unblockable etc. this deck will be one giant beast when it's done.

Changed some cards

swamp_water, 13 years ago

Took out the Lich, the Twins and the Runebinder and added Black Cats for cheap 2 drops and Skinrenders for the removal.

Simplified

strongflower, 13 years ago

I cut the fat, including the sideboarded Cage answers. No decks are running them anyway. I figured I would stick to the cards I wanted to see and knew I need to make the deck work in at least triplicate. The sideboard functions to deal with token decks and evasion, and also to swap out my removal for combat tricks, and, when my opponent sideboards in all his answers to the pod, to swap out the pod for some good ol' mono black control and destruction. This deck took 2nd place at its first standard tournament.

Changed for DKA

JBills, 13 years ago

Swapped 2x Crossway Vampire's and 2x Rakish Heir's for 3x Stromkirk Captain's and 1x Falkenrath Aristocrat... that's what I had available at the time and sounded fun.

I wanted to keep my mana curve (roughly) the same and I thought the haste for 4 converted with first strike would be a good addition.

Been testing out this update for a little bit and has a good feel. Vicious when it plays... I like it but I need to learn to sideboard.

Markov Blademaster sounds fun but can't find a place for it.

I really want to add another Stromkirk Captain but keep the Falkenrath Aristocrat even though 61 cards is taboo.

Considering dropping the Stensia Bloodhall's because they haven't really done a thing for me. Too expensive for just 2 damage and possible Bloodlust support. The Bloodlord of Vaasgoth, Stensia Bloodhall, Bloodline Keeper  Flip token combo hasn't happened at all. If I drop those I suppose I'd have to replace with them with other lands though it'd be cool to replace with the other Stromkirk Captain and a Markov Blademaster.

Thoughts??...

Missing Pieces

crackrabbit, 13 years ago

To really make this deck feel more like the 2012 version I still need Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre to tie it all together. Once I get a hold of them, both Molimo and dark colo come out. Still a fun deck, but I think those 2 eldrazi lords will make the deck that much more threatening.

wildstallion, 13 years ago

added Oblivion Ring to the main and decreased to 2 swords.

idk what's better between Doomed Traveler or Champion of the Parish
