WG Hatebears
Introduction:
This deck was originally built to beat Treasure Cruise and Birthing Pod decks. I guess it succeeded, because both of those are now banned. So I guess it's just an annoying Selesnya midrange deck.
Any suggestions for the main and side board are very appreciated. Cheers!
Mainboard
Manabase:
Decent balance of G and W sources. Horizon Canopy is good. Stirring Wildwood is also a strong late game creature/land.
Ghost Quarter is the only colourless source, due largely to Ghost Quarter
+
Leonin Arbiter
.
Eiganjo Castle is included to protect a few cards, including Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Thrun, the Last Troll, and Sigarda, Host of Herons.
Creatures:
Noble Hierarch - It's a dork, with Exalted. Better than Birds of Paradise, because of Exalted.
Kitchen Finks - Burn is still scary. This makes it less scary. Combos real nice with Wilt-Leaf Liege.
Leonin Arbiter - This card is in here because it's obnoxious as hell for a lot of decks. Can't search with fetches, mostly. Also very good with Path to Exile and Ghost Quarter.
Qasali Pridemage - Good all around card choice. Exalted is useful for aggression, and its activated ability helps deal with enchantment and artifact threats.
Brimaz, King of Oreskos - 3/4 for 3? Good. With Vigilance? Great. That creates tokens when attacking or blocking? Outright unfair.
Scavenging Ooze - Another creature that's a solid threat on the board. Helps shrink Tarmogoyf, and heals you too.
Thalia, Guardian of Thraben - Another somewhat obnoxious creature. Easily removed, though she can slow down a couple decks.
Voice of Resurgence - One of my favourite cards. Obnoxious to deal with, and can quickly become very annoying with elemental tokens.
Aven Mindcensor - Another card to annoy and slow down opponents with. Hurts fetching, and also works well with Path to Exile and Ghost Quarter.
Loxodon Smiter - Survives Lightning Bolt and Anger of the Gods, which are still really popular in a lot of decks. Discard effect helps against Jund/Junk too.
Baneslayer Angel - Late game beatdown MVP. Lifelink and First Strike on a 5/5 make her a threat that cannot be ignored.
Thrun, the Last Troll - Another creature that's hard for a lot of decks to deal with, due to hexproof and regenerate.
Wilt-Leaf Liege - A card that's good no matter when it comes down. 4/4 for 4, that makes everything else in the deck really, really scary.
Sigarda, Host of Herons - Useful against Jund/Junk, and control. Big threat, not easy to deal with.
Spells/Other:
Path to Exile - Removes scary thing. Pretty simple. Works well with Leonin Arbiter and Aven Mindcensor.
Sideboard
Engineered Explosives - Strong against Young Pyromancer/Delver of Secrets decks, as well as Affinity and Boggles.
Gaddock Teeg - For when the deck isn't quite inconvenient enough. Has some value against Splinter Twin and Scapeshift lists, and other decks that play important, high cost non-creature spells.
Chalice of the Void - All-Star in a bunch of matchups. Chalice on 1 is great against Boggles, Burn, and Delver, and Chalice on 0 is solid against Affinity as well.
Burrenton Forge-Tender - A way to help against some of the more common board clears, such as Anger of the Gods and Pyroclasm, both of which are massive threats against the deck.
Choke - Helps the fight against control players, and basically everyone running islands.
Dismember - A last-resort removal tool, to blow up a Tarmogoyf, Siege Rhino, or other scary threat.
Rest in Peace - Good card. Makes Tarmogoyf suck. Useful against Gifts Ungiven decks as well. Couple minor downsides, but more upsides overall.
Stony Silence - Useful against both forms of Tron, as well as Affinity and really any deck that uses artifacts.
Mirran Crusader - Decent beater, protection from Green and Black are decent as well. Strong gameplan against Jund/Junk.
