Lots of Changes —Oct. 3, 2012
Over the course of the past week the deck has gone through many changes. Testing has proven that Thragtusk, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, and Vampire Nighthawk are all extremely good and are what the deck wants to be doing. Vraska has been either great or terrible, but most people will scoop to her regardless which is pretty sweet.
Another fact: the matches can take a long time. Since you're gaining so much life & trading ground creatures, the deck is a slow grind. However, it has cards some decks can't beat, so you should get concessions from them rather easily. The midrange decks are going to be the longest matchups, probably even longer than the control matchup.
Barter in Blood is one of the biggest potential blowout cards you can cast with this deck. There is a 2nd in the sideboard. Cyclonic Rift has also been quite good, but its usually used as a safety net to fall back on. However, against the G/W, U/W, and Bant decks (aka decks with Restoration Angel), Cyclonic Rift is the best card you have against them. It's hard to board it out, but it is correct to do so occasionally. One could consider adding a second Cyclonic Rift to the board.
Sideboard: Bloodline Keeper Flip is insane. People board out most of their removal against you - (especially Bonfire of the Damned and Mizzium Mortars, and the Bant decks only way to deal with it is Detention Sphere/Oblivion Ring or Wrath. Vampire Nighthawk & Bloodline Keeper Flip keep Sigarda, Host of Herons in check. Liliana of the Veil is there for Geist of Saint Traft matchups. If the card proves to be popular in the new format definitely add another Liliana to the board (or maybe even maindeck). For non-liliana fans, a more affordable substitute, (or perhaps even better due to synergies with Augur of Bolas and Snapcaster Mage and being less intensive on the mana {1BB}, Tribute to Hunger should also be explored. The argument for the 2nd Tamiyo, the Moon Sage over the singleton Vraska the Unseen has been made (and is probably correct), but for now I'm testing with the mix maindeck.
Feel free to explore new possibilities and let me know what you think. Thanks again everyone for stopping by and looking at the deck & for the feedback. It's been very helpful. +1 if you like it, always appreciated :)
The reason why I chose Sphinx of Uthuun over other fatties is because he guarantees value without any drawback - if he resolves. Even if they Selesnya Charm or Ultimate Price it you still got some cards, and didn't have to pay life like you do Griselbrand ; also easier on the mana. It's awesome if they put him underneath Detention Sphere or Oblivion Ring because then you get more value when you Abrupt Decay it. Finally, he's bigger than Sigarda, Host of Herons .
He still may not be the right fatty of choice, but he's the best one I could come up with. I really needed a way to refill my hand with some goodies after early pressure, and Fact or Fiction is usually the best way to do that. Definitely keeping my eye out for another finisher. Bloodgift Demon may be better.

Hey, whatever works.
I've been testing it a little (my time between classes is fraught with boredom). It's pretty consistent and definitely has positive matches against the emerging control decks, but it has a serious problem with aggro.
With one card for "board wiping" (of course, returning the creatures to their owners hands doesn't really count, but whatever), it's difficult to handle any deck that populates the board quickly. You may have card:Curse of Death's Hold in the sideboard for just such a matchup, but I don't see that necessarily being all that effective. From what I can gather, the emerging aggro decks are utilizing larger creatures such as Lotleth Troll and Loxodon Smiter which could certainly withstand -1/-1 (assuming the Lotleth Troll was already on the field).
What is your plan for such a matchup?

With Golgari Charm now having been spoiled that will help a lot. The best interaction you can really get going is Borderland Ranger /Snapcaster Mage + Tragic Slip . Vampire Nighthawk helps quite a bit, as does Jace, Architect of Thought 's +1. You're really just stalling until Thragtusk and Jace take over the game. Loxodon Smiter is killed by Abrupt Decay . This deck may want a few more bounce effects. Has Garruk Relentless Flip been of any value in your testing? I feel like he's the most unnecessary card in the deck. It could be that Duress should be moved to the sideboard and Nighthawk come in the main. Honestly I didn't build this deck with GW in mind. I may need to go back to the drawing board now that Kibler's article is up on Starcity. His list is quite interesting, and definitely should be considered when building a deck. This was more tweaked to keep up with zombies and control, not really a midrange type deck other than jund. Thanks for letting me know the issues with the deck :) I really appreciate it.

@MagicFingers. Also, try adding Barter in Blood . Sever the Bloodline , Barter in Blood , and Tragic Slip /Abrupt Decay should be enough. I am excited to see Gerry T play against Brad on GBTV soon. Their next matchup is Grixis vs GW, so hopefully I can get some ideas from watching that.

I didn't really like Garruk Relentless Flip , truth be told. Even after he transformed he seemed like dead weight. Garruk, Primal Hunter would be the better Garruk for this deck, although even he may be unnecessary.
Before I comment on the substitution of Duress for Vampire Nighthawk , I should probably test it out. It SHOULD help you in aggro and mid-game matchups, but I honestly have no idea how effective it will be against control. Somewhere between "not very" and "somewhat", I would assume.

Updated the list. Should be much better. Note that Bloodline Keeper Flip in the sideboard is very good against the G/W aggressive decks. They have no real way to answer it. The next change that I already know needs to be made is to change Dissipate to either more removal at the 1 and 2 slot, or to change it to Syncopate not certain which is correct, but I know it is necessary. Dissipate is good, but the deck wants to tap out on turn 3 more often now. It's the same don't die until you can curve out into 3 - 4 - 5. Possibly Elvish Visionary should get an inclusion, but that would be more of an aggro control/ midrange style deck. May explore going in that direction.

A Sphinx of Uthuun and 4 Thragtusk not enough fatties? There are 2 Vraska the Unseen in the 75. 2 Bloodline Keeper Flip s in the sideboard as well to add to the fatty count. I feel like the deck almost has too many fatties, it just needs a way to stop early pressure and draw enough gas after the initial onslaught. Finishing the game isn't too hard, the hard problem is not dying before you can drop your big threats.

I'm just not a fan of any of the creatures you mentioned besides bloodline keeper. If I were making this deck, there would def be a delver or two in here
September 22, 2012 3:01 p.m.
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, I can definitely see BUG becoming a delver deck, just not quite yet. The mana isn't good enough. Since you need an untapped blue source turn 1 for your Delver of Secrets Flip the deck really needs Watery Grave and Breeding Pool in order for it to function - in my opinion. Obviously this deck would be better with those cards as you could reasonably play Mutilate , which this deck would really like to support, but until that time this was the best control deck I could come up with for the colors. Maybe this isn't the direction you want to go with it though, especially if you're used to playing tempo/aggro control type decks.

Yes, gatecrash is going to let me make the BUG deck of my dreams :) <3 vraska

card:Alchemist's Refuge.
Seriously.
I've used it in B/G/x Control before to great success. You want to keep your mana open anyway, right? This lets you do that. Keep your mana open for your Instants, then if nothing happens, Flash down Vampire Nighthawk or Thragtusk . Or Flash in card:Curse of Death's Hold when your opponent attacks, preventing them from responding in time with things like Oblivion Ring or Acidic Slime .
I think you could do with 1. If you're playing with 26 lands, you definitely have the room for it.

i'll definitely try it out. Nephalia Drownyard hasn't been amazing for me yet. I'm still not sure if the deck needs a Ghost Quarter though - It's really hard to beat active Gavony Township since the deck doesn't have a true sweeper & is reliant on Barter in Blood . card:Curse of Death's Hold is supposed to be the shut off mana dorks & random early dudes card, and township eliminates that plan almost entirely. card:Alchemist's Refuge seems a little slow & too mana intensive, but you never know until you try it out. Thanks for the suggestion man. No harm in testing it :)

Trying to find a glaring flaw in this is pretty tough, so good work!
My only complaint (pre-testing) is with Sphinx of Uthuun . Not a huge fan, though I can see his usefulness here. As your fat-fatty, Griselbrand could be useful. Draw power is always nice. Maybe a Desecration Demon or two.
Beyond that, I would have to actually test it quite a bit.
Another great deck, congrats! +1
