Maybeboard

Gaining life and burning tokens, very poorly. Our goal with Gyome is mostly to be gaining life and bleeding opponents. While life gain and lose life effects are in our kit, our biggest threat is having answers more then it is posing questions. In general the deck has draw, answers, and a little gas to get it where we're going. That place is far away, and we're traveling slowly, but travel we shall. Recommended for casual games with casual players.

Playing the deck

There are 4 recursive creatures to bring back repeatedly for tokens. Cauldron Familiar, Silversmote Ghoul,Gutterbones,Reassembling Skeleton. They may all be freely dumped into your graveyard whenever, as getting them back out is pretty easy. Any creature entering on your endstep counts toward Gyome because when things happen at the same time on your turn, you may choose the order the execute in. We simply have the creature enter before Gyome makes his food tokens. When using a search, or figuring out what to do with the cards that you have in hand, Try figuring what you want to do next.

  • If it's early and you want to build a threat, try getting a recursive creature and the Witch's Oven and swing with whatever you have. Use food and Gyome's activated ability to make critters survive combat. The Malefic Scythe early on can build damage and make some scary combat.
  • If you're behind from the rest of the board, there are a few board wipes (Gyome may help you mitigate by making creatures indestructible) like Deadly Tempest, Essence Pulse, and Rampage of the Clans that may drag you back into the game.
  • If you're looking to finish the game, there are some big hitters in deck. Marionette Master and Ob Nixilis Reignited when pumped up can easily finish a player off. Ob can basically doom a player with his ult and MM may end a person with sacing food tokens to grind a health bar down quickly.

The Cauldron Familiar/Witch's oven combo is in the deck. Attaching a scythe may be used to pump it's soul counters for 1 mana a piece. Gyome himself is much more versatile then he appears. The food token generation isn't bad, but making creautures indestructible at instant speed without expending cards is huge. Tapping any creature you choose is likewise, a menace and a half, and trample on a 5/3 commander is much more annoying then most are willing to admit.

Problems/things to improve.

The deck could very much use more recursion in creatures. This particular deck has a few good ways to drop damage down, but it doesn't really have ways to be cranking out the food tokens without more recursive creature methods. I also have the worry that Gyome lacks potential to become a more competitive deck. He has no real combos that I'm aware of, provides no draw, and the color selection, while very fun, is much smaller then more competitive commanders. Aristocrat and lifegain may both be common commander strategies, but it may take a lot of money to get those good cards into this deck, which is currently very cheap for a deck in the commander format.
