Volo Guide to Morphers

Commander / EDH* GU (Simic)

Maaloufler

Theory

Due to the nature of face down creatures not having a name or type Volo, Guide to Monsters can duplicate the 2/2 when cast. This ability can be fun.

Benefits of the face down creatures

  1. Being colorless so cards like Forsaken Monument help us and All is Dust won't be as detrimental.

  2. Because some face down creatures don't have abilities we have access to a cheap buff with Muraganda Petroglyphs giving them a +2/+2 boost as well as face down creatures being boosted by Ixidor, Reality Sculptor.

  3. Because the face down creatures have no name Guardian Project can continually draw off the creatures.

Costs reduction

Obscuring Aether,Dream Chisel, Panoptic Projektor, Ugin, the Ineffable and Nylea, Keen-Eyed all reduce the cost of the face down creatures.

Combos

Pickles lock which is Brine Elemental and Vesuvan Shapeshifter. Keep morphing the Shapshifter to have your opponents skip the untap phase.

There are lines with Primordial Mist and enough cost reduction to gas through the deck via Guardian Project, making an army of 2/2 nameless, typeless, colorless creatures through Volo, Guide to Monsters, and using Equilibrium to keep other creatures off the field. These are very useful when flash is granted.
