Nicol Bolas's Rise to Godhood (100 card version)

Archenemy Casual Cruel Control Multiplayer Theme/Gimmick UBR (Grixis)

Sideboard

Elder dragon and tyrant of worlds, Nicol Bolas is one of the oldest known beings in the Multiverse. Mana hungry and wielding a triple threat of blue, black, and red spells, hes a force of villainous destruction, crushing all magic (and minds) that stand in his way.

His malevolence is matched only by his boundless intellect. Compassion and respect for life don't enter into his plans. He will go to any lengths to regain the godlike powers that were once his.

Nicol Bolas knows all about being an archenemy; having set his unswerving sights on nothing less than control over the entire multiverse. Wherever and whenever he planeswalks, countless surrender their will, their lives, and sometimes their wills again.

While building this deck I thought it was only right that I made 3 Alara themed decks to stand against this deck. Those decks are:

The Elspeth / Bant Deck: Valorous Defenders of Bant

The Ajani / Naya Deck: Fury of Naya

The Kresh / Jund Deck: War Horde of Jund

These "hero" decks are loosely based on the shards of Bant, Naya, and Jund; roughly the "good guy" shards that lent heroes to oppose Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker in the Shards of Alara block story-line. (Grixis was firmly under the sway of Nicol Bolas, and Esper was so obsessed with their dwindling supply of etherium that they ignored Bolas's influence there until it was too late.)

I made this Nicol Bolas deck to be full of flavor. But don't get me wrong; while it has a lot of deliciously flavorful cards in it, you'd be wise not to underestimate it. The deck is centered around cruel and powerful cards backed up by terrifying scheme cards. The archenemy deck is of my own design; The scheme cards I selected are ones that I felt portrayed Nicol Bolas the best. You have: board-sweeping effects, reset buttons, card drawing, creature stealing, and reanimation. All of which are fair game for Bolas.

Sarkhan makes his appearance here in the form of Sarkhan the Mad, the dragon-worshipper having succumbed to Bolas's rule. I threw in Ancient Hellkite , Grave Titan, and Time Reversal for some M11 love (M11 was my first core set).

I wanted to show a little love to the Archenemy play-style since it seems people have forgotten that it even exists anymore. I personally love it :) it kind of reminds me of fighting a final boss in a game or a D&D campaign. I hope I did the sinister Bolas justice in this deck that's designed to make his opponents squirm and fear him. I hope you guys enjoy it. +1 if you like Nicol Bolas as the Archenemy! :3
