And this one?
Our deck is built around this one
Springjack Shepherd
. I present to you...
Devotion by Goats
[Modern] Devotion to Goats! is a budgetish devotion gimmick deck that wins usually with 0/1 white goat tokens. Goats are awesome. Cards that give you goats are really awesome. But murdering your enemies with goats is epic. You can also murder them without goats if you really want to... This decklist is my current goat deck and I am slowly acquiring the rest of the cards. I aim for this deck to be as modern-viable as possible whilst keeping the goat theme. Partially inspiried by: When Goats Attack.
Key Combos
Idealy you want to cast Springjack Shepherd and then either or Flickerwisp. Flickerwisp can also be used with other cards with benefitial enter the battlefield effects.
You get goats and they actually can hit people!
One of the best combos in the deck. Every turn recurring a
Springjack Shepherd
and making more goats is really good.
Early Dudes
Shadows over Innistrad gave us this incredibly versatile early 1 drop for goats. This gal loves filling the gaps in our curve as well as being our premier one drop. Thraben Inspector gives us value in the form of card draw, which this deck is severely lacking. It also can be a flciker target for
Flickerwisp
.
This guy can help punch through some damage. He is primarily used for his creature token making ability and the fact that he is a token producer gives him extra synergy with our anthem effects.
This lion knight often provides us card advantage (in a way) so it provides value even if it is removed. A bolt makes no distinction between Knight of the White Orchid and
Knight of Meadowgrain
, so you might as well maybe get a plains out of it. Also another note: Knight of the White Orchid has great synergy with Path to Exile, which is pretty sweet.
Another first striking 2/2. This time, however, it comes with extra lifelink. Extra life can be helpful in certain matchups.
The Guys that Make you Win
The goatherd is the core of our deck. She is a 1/2 for 4 ,but, that's not even the best part! When Springjack enters the battlefield, you get 0/1 goat tokens equal to your devotion to white. She just spews out goats late game. And as a result, our deck is almost completely built around
Springjack Shepherd
.
These guys put on the big beats as they synergize well with our anthem effects Wilt-Leaf Liege and Honor of the Pure. Mirran Crusader can be very difficult to answer effectively if they do not have a bolt effect. It's protection from black and green means it can block a Tarmogoyf or a Tasigur, the Golden Fang anyday. Brimaz provides a fast clock for the opponent with just a few swings.
Removal
Removal? What's removal? Unforunately, we are pretty much forced to run a playset of these. The possibility of a Wurmcoil Engine, Tasigur, the Golden Fang or Tarmogoyf ruining our day is very real. Path gives us an out and lets us play our goats without losing horribly.
Oblivion ring helps us answer noncreature threats namely Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. It's versatility and devotion-producingness also helps our springjack squeeze out an additional goat. Don't question how an oblivion ring is devoted to goats, just roll with it.
Anthems
These will pump our little guys up quite a bit. Our creatures with double-strike of lifelink benefit even more from the anthems. They also provide more devotion to goats and boost them up quite a bit. Despite this, our other non-goats still are in range of that dreaded Lightning Bolt and others.
Lands
A land base of 25 lands is alright with our curve. 23 Plains + 2 others make up the landbase. Knight of the White Orchid also helps if we are behind on mana.
Because our goat deck is mono-white, we can spare a few colorless lands. Tectonic insures that we don't auto-lose to decks that primarily rely on their nonbasic lands to win. Tectonic Edge is a great tool to have against
Urza's Tower
and
Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
.
This plains is really not a plains I swear. It is a very special plains that brings back your
Springjack Shepherd
and co. This will win you many a game because of it's insane value. Even more, it hardly requires anything to work. If you don't get its effect, it's a slightly worse plains. But when you do, you've either won or lost the game. These are typically in the sideboard as we do not plan for the game to go on too long. The drawback of entering the battlefield tapped is too much to run it mainboard.
Extra Sideboard Tech
Sideboarded in primarily versus aggressive red decks such as burn. Possible substitutions include Mirran Crusader.
Sideboarded against artifact heavy matchups such as affinity or lantern control where we need to prevent their artifacts from working. Absolutely destroys cards such as Darksteel Citadel and Ghoulcaller's Bell.
