Lots of Upgrades —Feb. 28, 2020

Big update here. So I'm just going to generalize it a bit. A lot of this update is just re-adding cards that used to be in here but got moved into other decks (which I took apart and am now putting back in).

Out

Land: Great Furnace and Dormant Volcano. The latter is just as bad as Temple of the False God. As for the artifact land, I don't have artifact swapping shenanigans very often. It's better to have more mountains for my Extraplanar Lens.

Discard: Wild Guess, Tormenting Voice. Replaced with better discard.

Draw: Experimental Frenzy, Knollspine Dragon. They just aren't the best draw engines for this deck. I play off my graveyard, not by casting cards. And knollspine dragon often would only get me cards by waiting for an opponent to attack someone.

Tutor: Kuldotha Forgemaster, Hoarding Dragon. Again, I'm not an artifact deck. Forgemaster just was a bit clunky. Hoarding dragon is slow.

Damage: Bogardan Hellkite, Inferno Titan, Spawn of Thraxes. Replaced for better cards.

Other: Goblin Welder, Keldon Firebombers, Burnished Hart, Myr Battlesphere. I'm not an artifact deck, so welder isn't that great. Land destruction is frowned upon. I now have better ramp than Burnished Hart.

In

2 Mountains!

Discard: Thrill of Possibility and Reforge the Soul. Also, Ox of Agonas which basically reads draw three.

Boardwipes: Chain Reaction and All is Dust. I bounce back better from boardwipes, so I might as well run a lot!

Value: Ghired's Belligerence and Purphoros, God of the Forge get the most out of my tokens. Expert advice for Ghired's Belligerence is to get a Feldon token, kill as many creatures as you can and remember to just do 1 damage to the Feldon token. You'll populate it a bunch. Then, because you pinged the token, it'll die at end of turn and you populate again!

Combo: Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Zealous Conscripts. Kiki-Jiki is just good. He's like a creature version of Illusionist's Bracers. Zealous Conscripts is just a good card that I now have enough reason to include. If both are in my graveyard, I just do conscripts, untap Feldon, then Kiki and win!

Enchantment removal: Ugin, the Ineffable and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. I know it looks like overkill, but these cards are good in general. I have enough artifacts (even though I'm not an artifact deck) to pull Ugin off, and Ulamog is a decent reanimate target, too.

Other: Drakuseth, Maw of Flames is a great damage dealer. He can clean out boards while also being able to swing 11 in the air!

Ramp: Dockside Extortionist. I keep taking him in and out. He's better than Burnished Hart, though. So he's staying in now. Theoretically, he goes infinite with it and Zealous Conscripts in the yard and Feldon equipped with Illusionist's Bracers.

Hey there! I'm loving the deck, I've always been a big mono red fan myself. I'll be honest with you, I haven't looked at a feldon deck in a long time, and I think you're right about people not playing him that often. Come to think of it, I've never played against a feldon deck before. Shame isn't it. For my suggestion, I'd take out Dormant Volcano the OG karoo lands are just...really bad. At that point you'd be better off running a Mountain or Dwarven Mine . Other than that, this deck is sweet, hopefully I'll see more feldon decks in the future, they seem so interesting.

Can you get ahold of a copy of Dockside Extortionist ? Being able to reuse him a few times will ramp you hard.

I did have Dockside Extortionist in at one point. I took it out in favor of Fires of Invention , although I should rethink about putting it back in again. I've just wondered about its effectiveness since my meta doesn't run hyper competitive decks, but everyone has mana rocks. So thanks bushido_man96. I'll take out the Dormant Volcano , too Deadpoo111. Wouldn't the same reasing be true for Myriad Landscape ? Since it's a mono color deck, it's just a tapped land that somewhat ramps like the bounce land. At least the bounce land sometimes let's me discard a card for exceeding my hand size.

Lanzo493: The difference between Myriad Landscape is that you don't set your self a turn back on lands. It can also tap for mana and just etbs tapped. In addition it gets two red, Dormant Volcano only gives one red and one colorless

I overlooked the bouncing an untapped mountain part. Thanks for the advice!

Lanzo493

Arch of Orazca - Repeatable late game draw

Commune with Lava - Late game "draw," can be used end of opponents turn as well

Hedron Archive - Ramp and card draw

Ignite the Future - Very good "draw"

Light Up the Stage - Almost as good "draw"

Mind's Eye - Expensive, but mid-late game draw is always nice

You have virtually no draw, just lots of looting which is fine for GY shenanigans but you will run out of gas quickly.

Gauntlet of Power - Ramp

Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Ramp, removal, draw and wincon all in 1

Outpost Siege - Draw

Stranglehold - Stops tutoring and land fetching

Sunbird's Invocation - If this sticks, it's GG

Strionic Resonator could be helpful to double etb effects and Cavalier of Flame is a wheel on wheels basically... other than that red isnt my strongest suit. +1 for ya.

Since you already run experimental frenzy, you might want to consider adding Sensei's Divining Top and an Ugin, the Ineffable. Top helps filter your draws and is always good. Ugin helps give you card advantage, cost reducing and it can help get rid of enchantments (among others) which red has trouble with.

With all 3 together, you can use top to draw a card, then with experimental frenzy, can cost top off of the top. Then ugin makes that cost for free, allowing you to draw your entire deck (should you wish). This will help you discard whatever you want (lands to the cavalier that the person above recommended) or big creatures for Feldon.

Thanks for the suggestions Profet93. I never though of using Ugin before, but he slots really well into this deck due to the enchantment removal, card advantage, and colorless reduction. I'm on the fence about keeping Experimental Frenzy, but we'll see how that goes. I'll add a top if I ever get to trade for one.
