Squad Commander

Creature — Kor Warrior

When Squad Commander enters the battlefield, create a 1/1 white Kor Warrior creature token for each creature in your party. *(Your party consists of up to four creatures, one Cleric, Rogue, Warrior and Wizard, each.)

At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you have a full party, creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain indestructible until end of turn.

Hello again Kelvin-escesare,

I understand that Maskwood Nexus isn't an amazing card in general, that's why I was suggesting you could try adding just one, but I feel like it's one of those cards that looks so janky that it's easy to overlook some useful interactions in can produce in some situations.

It would be a 4 mana drop do-nothing in many decks, but here if you have 4 or more creatures but are still missing the 4th party member, playing it would turn on your Archpriest of Iona or Squad Commander . The ability to create a changeling is expensive for sure, but if you end up empty handed you'd still be glad to have it. You could have just 2 creatures in play with nothing in hand, create a changeling on their end step, then another on your turn and you're back in business! It could be a great way to spend your mana at instant speed if you're holding back not to run into a board-wipe too.

I guess it would screw over Winota, Joiner of Forces , but at the same time it would make Realmwalker much better too.

In any case, it's defintely your call but I feel like having that lone copy of Maskwood Nexus in the deck could occasionally make the whole party experience much smoother.

Cheers.

Ah I see.

You are correct that if the commander's color identity is pure white, then you could only include colorless and white cards. However, Tazri, Beacon of Unity 's color identity is thanks to the appearance of those symbols in her text box.

If you go with Tazri, you might consider picking these up: Coveted Prize , Nimble Trapfinder , Thwart the Grave , Crib Swap (this card has all creature types, so it can be picked up via Tazri's ability!), Nameless Inversion , Linvala, Shield of Sea Gate , Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats , Squad Commander , Oakhame Adversary , Malakir Blood-Priest , Veteran Adventurer , Sygg, River Cutthroat , Nullpriest of Oblivion , Moritte of the Frost , Nin, the Pain Artist

This was a super fun deck to play! Squad Commander was the clincher, I managed to combo Coveted Prize and Tajuru Paragon and the commander's ability to get a lot of threats on the board, namely Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats and Zareth San, the Trickster to steal creatures.

I don't have a lot of the pricer cards but filled some gaps with cards like Marisi, Breaker of the Coil to buy time and build momentum, take some heat off my commander when I pull her or Jegatha out.

Before worrying about sideboarding, I'd focus on getting the main down to 60 cards. The closer you are to the minimum deck size, the more likely it is you'll draw the best cards in your deck. In this case, it looks like you want to build a party deck with Haktos the Unscarred as one of the bombs. The first thing I'd do is identify which cards are actively working towards that end or are particularly efficient. If something doesn't fit those descriptions, cut it. If it does, try to acquire multiple copies of it. For example, Gore Swine isn't doing anything here that a party member couldn't do better, so I'd remove it. Compare that to Expedition Champion who has more stats for the same cost and actively synergizes with the warrior theme, so having 4 of him wouldn't be bad. You can apply that logic to the entire deck. Practiced Tacticsis better than Sandblast. Suspension Field is more cost effective than Skybind. And so on.

After thinning the deck to its strongest options, then I'd focus on upgrades. Seek out other decks with similar goals and see what they're running. You can then endeavor to purchase the best cards you see in such examples, budget permitting. I don't know much about Boros party, but a quick search revealed Archpriest of Iona, Grotag Bug-Catcher, Stonework Packbeast, Squad Commander, Journey to Oblivion, Kargan Intimidator, Luminarch Aspirant, Relic Axe, Goma Fada Vanguard, Robber of the Rich, Tazri, Beacon of Unity, Fissure Wizard, and Seasoned Hallowblade, and that's only looking at standard. Modern brings even more options, particularly for Boros warriors. Arashin Foremost, Boros Reckoner, Mardu Woe-Reaper, Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, Obsidian Battle-Axe, Grim Lavamancer, Jeering Instigator, Fire-Belly Changeling, Grand Abolisher, Mirror Entity, Bygone Bishop, and Selfless Spirit all come to mind.
