So modern is an expensive format. We all know that. A while ago, I discovered an appreciation of R/G Valakut Breach. It's lots of fun and one of the biggest stars of the deck is Primeval Titan. I love Prime Time SO much, in fact, I wanted to try and play that one established deck he's the star of. What's the name? Oh yeah, Amulet Bloom. Yeah, that's the one! It'll be easy, I thought. I already have the 4 titans after all. I just need Amulet of Vigor and Summer Bloom and all those Karoo/Bounce lands and... and... and ......
a WHOLE BUNCH MORE CRAZY EXPENSIVE CRAP!!!@$ @!%! WTF!!!! @@#%!#$ That's CRAZY $$$$!!!!
So yeah, I should have known better. There just isn't any getting an established modern deck on the cheap. I guess my new deck goal is Amulet "Bloody" Bloom. It's just crazy how many bizarre obscure but rare and costly cards are in this funky deck!
So do any of you have a Modern deck that you just REALLY want to play and can't afford right this minute, but you're saving up them dolla dolla bills, and by golly one of these days soon it'll be in your hands. What are you doing in the meantime? Personally I'll keep on playing Valakut, since it's definitely a good time even if it's a Rogue deck, and I'll probably proxy up an Amulet bloom to try out with some friends soon.
And yes. When I finally get my hands on the monster, I will call it by that name. Amulet "BLOODY" Bloom. Hahaha

Between snapcaster clique bob and liliana of the veil, I'm a far ways away from owning either of my decks right now.

In magical Christmasland, I would be able to afford to get into Legacy. And I would be playing Lands, which is one of the most expensive but fun decks.
As for Modern, I would love to play a real control deck rather than janky combo decks. I'm only three Snapcaster Mages and a ton of duals away from that.

I love Rock decks. I would wanna play either Jund or Junk. Or I could play both and go with Ajundi. So that's like two grand. Considering I live off 65 cent cans of ravioli, it'll be a while.

I have my eyes on Liliana of the Veil ATM and would love to eventually get Goyf. For Legacy, I'd like to pick up The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and a few Candelabra of Tawnos. But that probably will never happen unless my income allows me to needlessly drop a few grand.

Want to get a legacy deck together. Just need 2 Tropical Island, 1 Underground Sea, 1 Scrubland, 1 Savannah, 2 Wasteland, 1 Karakas, & 3 Tarmogoyf. Stupid f&!*/$ legacy and their dumb @$$ abur lands.

I'd really enjoy getting a set of Liliana of the Veil, but I missed the boat when she initially jumped from $45 to $70 the first time a year ago. Luckily I have good friends with nice cards who happen to have busier schedules than mine that I can borrow from. I also need a set of Scalding Tarn. Here's hoping that they'll see a reprint before the year is out!

Ideally I'd play Blue Moon, but with Snappy climbing and Blood Moon spiking as well, I'm getting doubtful that this will ever happen. At least Cryptic is a little lower now.
Plus, my LGS is starting Modern FNM the day I leave to go back to school so I'm just sticking with UTron, which I really enjoy playing.

Well I really want some Blood Moons. I knew as soon as I saw Splinter Twin as a rare it wasn't going to get a reprint. I should have gone out and gotten them. And I also want some Cavern of Souls for my slivers deck.

Lol I inderstand completely what you guys are talking about but you can be fairly successful with out some of those super expensive cards. I run 3 modern decks and their range in price rage is $100-$600 dollars in total. It's not impossible to make a very strong synergistic deck with out Dark Confidant and Tarmogoyf level cards. Now are they the greatest items that replace them? No just their also very powerful. I myself have a Utron, USA delver, and I have my pride and possession of an abzan midrange.

I really like traditional control, be it

, or . I've pieced together modern U/W midrange atm. The money cards are Remand, Path to Exile, Flooded Strand, Hallowed Fountain, Restoration Angel, Kitchen Finks, etc. The whole affair costs $250. I've gotten some of those cards through trading and others on discount.
In the future, I hope to put many of the cards I'm using now towards a proper control deck or to invest in some copies of Cryptic Command, Snapcaster Mage, and Vendilion Clique.

Naya Zoo where I can actually include the goyfs...but I can't even afford the deck w/out Goyf. Being 17 and playing this game is sad. I'm trying to save up for a car with my job, yet somehow my money keeps slipping into this hobby...

Fun fact: Amulet Bloom used to cost less than half what it does now, pre-Pro Tour FRF. Another fun fact: I was planning on building it then.
As far as the question goes, my dream deck would probably be 4C Gifts Control, or some variant of a Life from the Loam engine deck. But everything I'd like to play is like 3-4 colours and fetches and shocks cost money.

Working on building jund as well. Once my mom signs for 2 Dark Confidants (her Amazon account, I'm a poor high school student with a job) I'll have the playset. I have 3 lilies(she's taken a while to get), a Verdant Catacombs a number of the khans fetchlands (serious get those now, even if you aren't going to use them they will go up), 3 Blackcleave Cliffs(got 2 after the spike, my lgs didn't update their prices yet and I got them for like $6.8 each), 3 Fulminator Mages, a Huntmaster of the Fells Flip(traded friend before the spike), 2 ad, 1 Kolaghan's Command.
I own playsets of lb and Terminate but I don't want to have to take apart one deck for another(same goes for the kahns fetchlands)
So it's going well. The lilianas have been a year+ long project(she was originally for a rogue deck, I'm fine with transferring her around haha) Yay for Christmas and birthdays haha.

I would love to build jund but that seems super unlikely considering I traded away my bobs, have only 1 lili and no tarmogoyfs. Aside from that I would love to make Eternal Command. Again, no tarmogoyfs though :(

Lands have always been my bugbear -- I'm a set of Temple Garden away from making Bogles, and I can always reuse them for a Selesnya Collected Company build if Bogles bite the bullet.
But that means getting a set of Voice of Resurgence... Along with Thalias and maybe nobles, if you look at some builds.

Never give up boys and girls: I just recently saved enough to build ANT Storm in Legacy. Took a lot of time and a lot of money, but I got there. The best thing is just to save money and try to feel the market for ONE project. It's better to have one competitive deck than 10 janky ones IMO.

If you want a cheap half decent modern deck look up builds from Travis Woo.
Also I've heard speculations of amulet or summers bloom being nbannd come next modern bannings. Of course this is purely speculation...

Necrotesque is completely right here. Better to have that 1 really powerful and competitive deck than piles of jank which fold to 60% of the meta.

I'd love to play Jund, because unlike Abzan, I really like the way the deck has been built. It's like control, midrange and aggro in 75 cards. It's the only BGx deck that I actively enjoy playing, and I respect the deck formula the most of all BGx lists.
I would appreciate it if one of my friends decided on his 2nd deck. He plays BW Tokens at the moment, and he's borrowing some of my Auriok Champions. Since he's doing that, I can't go to FNM with him if I want to play Soul Sisters. It's also nice for playgroups to have lots of decks.
A deck that I want to get into which costs almost nothing because I have most of the staples is Grixis Delver. If I feel an urge to play it, I'll just drop $100-$200 into it and be done.
