So i want to make a Mill deck w/o Breaking the Bank :/

Deck Help forum

the highest i feel comfortable spending on cards is $100.

now before you slam, things you should prolly know is that i main Mono decks, i cannot use multi color decks bc i dont like those times where you draw (i.e.) a green creature, but you only have Plains on the field. and i'm not good at deck building, i'm still learning how to build (i know greatly 'how to play' just not 'how to build')

anyways, w/o further ado, here is what i have so far (made it during Lunch, so it's not that big yet, and i get no wifi)2x Abduction 3x Fog Bank 2x Jace Beleren 4x Jace's Archivist 3x Jace's Erasure 1x Jace's Ingenuity 1x Jace's Mindseeker 1x Jace, Memory Adept 1x Tamiyo, the Moon Sage

anyways, what can i add to this deck to make it a decent/great mill deck?

It's just an idea, It's in your budget cut, and you'd be cutting otherwise useless cards for a fast mill deck. I'd cut the 2 Jace Beleren s, they're a bad version of Adept.

but this deck is based around Jace .

You'll never get to use Jace, Memory Adept effectively in Modern. At 5 CMC you want to win on turn 5. He rarely will do that for you.

Modern is a fast format. In order to build an effective mill deck, you'll need to play effective CMC spells. You'll also want to at least play U/B to be able to include Breaking / Entering , Mind Funeral , Thought Scour , Visions of Beyond , Glimpse the Unthinkable , Hedron Crab , fetch lands (which are being reprinted), Shock lands, and Archive Trap .

If you don't like your mana being bad, play dual lands. Temple Garden , Sunpetal Grove and Razorverge Thicket all help your GW cast spells more consistently. There's a solution to every problem. For mill, the lands would be Darkslick Shores , Watery Grave , Drowned Catacomb

Hedron Crab is a very cool option, as it gives you a consistent source of mill by just playing your lands. Shelldock Isle synergizes well with the mill cards, allowing you to play more of them more quickly.

Mind Sculpt is a card you may have missed. Glimpse the Unthinkable is the best mill card out there, and Archive Trap punishes people using fetchlands.

Just link us to the deck page. No need to list the cards. To link the deck, use the slug, and write it like this:

[ [deck-large:05-09-14-jace-rough-draft] ] without the spaces between brackets gives:

You're playing modern tire breaking the bank either way unless you're playing burn

Do you want to hav a modern-legal deck? I couldn't find it but some people seem to think so...

Anyway, if you want to have a competitive modern deck, $100 isn't nearly enough (the mana base alone exceeds that limit). If you just want to play with friends, there are options.

For budget mana, play Evolving Wilds , Terramorphic Expanse , Dimir Guildgate , Temple of Deceit , Darkslick Shores , Drowned Catacomb , Dimir Signet , maybe Dimir Keyrune .

Great and relatively cheap permanent mill cards are Hedron Crab , Memory Erosion and Mesmeric Orb . I'd advise playing them. Yes, they can and will be destroyed, but they will mill more cards than instants/sorceries, nontheless. And let's face it, Glimpse the Unthinkable is great but out of your budget. Play Propaganda and/or Riddlekeeper against creature heavy decks.

Jace's Phantasm is a great beater if you wan to have a win-con except milling.

Consuming Aberration isn't all that great. Sure, it's a huge beast but that's pointless if it gets chump blocked. The mill ability depends very much on luck, on average you will hit 3-4 cards starting turn 6. It is fun if you play Phenax, God of Deception , same goes for Sewer Nemesis .

If you want to play competitively, you shouldn't play straight mill, but a control deck with mill as a win con (Nephalia Drownyard ). If you want to play casually, straight up mill is fine, but even then you probably need at least removal spells. Doom Blade , Go for the Throat , Murder , Diabolic Edict , Grisly Spectacle , Pongify and Rapid Hybridization from the top of my head, black has a lot more, blue has bounce spells.
