Swordsmen are back, and they exchanged their old armors for an Engineering Ph.D!

Rising from Eldrazi ashes, the Tarmoslayer blade has found suitable holders once again!

(Pictured: Thopter Squadron learning the art of slaying Tarmogoyfs.)

First swordsmanship lesson: a drawn sword is a naked sword. All this weapon's might can only be measured while it is still in its sheath.

  • A fight between swordsmen is not a fight of muscles, but an incredibly tensed mindgame... Only the fool can think about winning by storming out with a fury of Grapeshot hits without sweeping the ground after a Remand of his attack.

  • You have to keep your eye sharp for any sign of weakness of your opponent (Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, Mishra's Bauble). Counter any of his best manoeuvres (Mana Leak, Spell Snare , Remand), and break him by destroying with your almighty sword what he may have accomplished (Path to Exile, Murderous Cut, Anguished Unmaking).

  • In case you do not know what to do anymore, just resort to meditation and through an Ancestral Vision you will find the answer you need with a Sleight of Hand. Mishra's Bauble, with the help of a fetch, can also manipulate your fate.

A strict following of this first lesson will be your best weapon to atteign an overwhelming victory.

Second lesson: at the very moment you've won the battle of minds, now and only now you may strike down your foe.

  • As you may have guessed, the Tarmoslayer Blade is no ordinary sword. As a real Steelshaper's Gift, it is indeed a Sword of the Meek that will always help the neediest Monk token and is the key to the legendary Thopter Foundry, unleashing the power of engineering and mana-fueled industry.

  • Two relics are sleeping in the foundry; should you find those and awaken those while having enough energy and Thopters to either activate those: the Time Sieve and the map to the Westvale Abbey  .

  • If you're able to have at the same moment the Sieve and enough mana to produce five Thopters a turn, you may do a Time Walk to draw your mana sources and do a tremendous number of small attacks that will tear your opponent apart in what would appear to him as the blink of an eye.

  • With Ormendahl, Profane Prince   bound to the Tarmoslayer Blade, it is the opposite: you may instead attack with a few, almost impossible to evade or stop and shattering blows that will leave traces of your passage on the landscape for centuries.

  • But do not forget: you are never alone, and the Monastery Mentor's teachings may set you back on the right tracks, while Snapcaster Mages will spare no effort to help you out in the most dire situations. The Lingering Souls of the previous holders won't let you down either.

Third and final lesson: true swordsmen never lose: they either win or learn.

More match-ups will be covered soon.
