Golgari / deck starring
Vraska the Unseen
and utilizing graveyard abilities like scavenge and delve.
CREATURES
Satyr Wayfinder - This lil guy is played on turn 2. Feeds the graveyard (helping the fuel delve, pumps Jarad, and can potentially put scavenge abilities in graveyard) in addition to hopefully putting a land in my hand. Definitely deserves a playset.
Vampire Nighthawk - While not necessarily fitting the scavenge theme of the deck, this guy is just too good not to use for a turn 3 drop. Flying, deathtouch, AND lifelink?? C'mon. Plus, those 3 abilities help out Soulflayer when casted.
Nyx Weaver - This not so itsy bitsy spider is a fun creature for the deck. It fuels the graveyard, is an adequate body that can block fliers, and the cherry on top: retrieves something from my graveyard. How nopefully delightful.
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
- One of the many turn 4 drops. By now, the graveyard may have a few creatures in it to help pump him when he ETB. Its nice to know he can be retrieved by sacking some lands, and the direct damage to an opponent by sacking a creature could also be handy (although through my play-testing, I have yet to use this ability).
Tasigur, the Golden Fang - Great fit for this deck. Decent body that can be cast for potentially one , and has a relevant ability utilizing the graveyard.
Soulflayer - A unique critter for beating down opponent. Thanks to his delve ability,he can take advantage of the graveyard and cast for almost freesies. Has the potential to ETB with deathtouch, first strike, flying, haste, lifelink, and reach.
Creakwood Liege - picked this up at the San Diego GP. Thought it fit well with the colors and It pumps all creature. Plus the passive token generator is really what makes this guy great, as this deck can be light on small creatures.
LANDS
Evolving Wilds - Does 3 things: 1. Mana fixin' 2. Deck thinning 3. Graveyard growing. If I had the budget, I'd buy the fetch-lands, so this is an affordable option.
Jungle Hollow - Superior to the guild gates, so a playset goes in. Not sure if I should still include the gates.
Rogue's Passage - if Vraska ults, this can help ensure that one of her snakey assassins sinks his blade into their target without any blocking creatures. Also helps if there's a BDD on the field and can swing for lethal.
REMOVAL
Putrefy - solid removal with Golgari colors
Hero's Downfall - versatile removal.
WIN CONS
What finishes a game most of the time is just plain beatdown with creatures. Scavenge is the juice that gets them beefy.
The assassins created by Vraska's ultimate ability are an additional wincon, but rather difficult to pull off. Rogue's Passage is included in the deck to help ensure they hit without any obstructions, but as of yet I have not won a game this way.
Jarad dealing direct damage to an opponent by sacking creatures.
NOTES
Consistently loses match ups to Selesnya Populate deck.
