Persistent Petitioners Mill Deck

Commander Deck Help forum

Not sure what colors to run here...

I could do Dimir, and run a Oona, Queen of the Fae with Conspiracy naming Persistent Petitioners . I'd have access to things like Glimpse the Unthinkable and Tutors.

Or I could do a Azorius build with Grand Arbiter Augustin IV and High Alert to be a control build with lots of counter magic and removal.

OR I could go Bant and incorporate my Azorius deck idea with some green ramp and Assault Formation ... maybe even slip in some defenders...

I dunno man there are so many good idea's and just don't know which one to go towards...

No matter what build I go with I don't think that this deck is going to be cEDH but it can be fully optimized so keep that in mind.

Help?

Also I'd like to form a group of active EDH users to help each other out on each others decks and follow each other, anyone interested?

I'm not an EDH guy but something like either Phenax, God of Deception or Szadek, Lord of Secrets would be fun to pair with Petitioners

If you go this route, I'd suggest including white and/or black for exile effects so Kozilek, Butcher of Truth type graveyard shuffle doesn't wreck your day and you aren't assisting reanimator decks. Cards like Leyline of the Void , Planar Void , Rest in Peace , and/or Undead Alchemist . I'd also run Arcane Adaptation for sure and possibly Mirror Entity so all your creatures become advisors.

Zur the Enchanter might be a good option so you can tutor for these effects easily.

Oona, Queen of the Fae with some infinite mana combos would probably be the way I would go. She can be a pretty solid mill deck, and producing additional blockers is invaluable. Plus, through Arcane Adaptation and Conspiracy , you can turn those faerie blockers into Advisors, adding additional mill.

Another option is The Scarab God . Blue/Black are great colours, and, while he does not mill directly, he gives you a pretty powerful outlet to take advantage of your milling others. At the very least, he is worth considering for the 99 if you are in U/B.

With regards to your closing point, you should check out The Deckwatch [Home Base]. I think all you have to do is ask and they will let you join, though don't quote me on that.

Well, With Oona, the first option, you shouldn't run Glimpse the Unthinkable , it is mill, but it like a Lava Spike in terms of efficiency and not even the most aggro red would run Lava Spike .

Conspiracy / Arcane Adaptation / Xenograft with Oona's ability and a lot of mana some infinite combos with it, etc. actually seems pretty good. A big mana dump/Petitioners would be how I would make that deck. Almost no other mill cards, tutors for the type-changers seems efficient. Otherwise going for a lot of ramp in the form of mana rocks, card draw, and control effects and you will always have a mana dump if you hold up mana.

The High Alert Doran style list with beat down seems just bad, trying to go mill and aggro is a weak strategy, stretching yourself very thin. Grand Abolisher could still be a good commander for petitioners, however is just another mill/control strategy.

These lists can run many instant wins/free wins, like a rat colony deck, Coat of Arms , Door of Destinies , Thrumming Stone , Secret Salvage (you can Mill yourself to get one in the yard), etc. and with Oona some Isochron Scepter / Dramatic Reversal , which you work in GAAIV too by infinitely untapping the petitioners.

I've always thought that Damia, Sage of Stone could be a pretty good commander for Persistent Petitioners . You can play Bloodbond March which is an all-star for cards like this. Dumping your entire hand of petitioners and refueling back for more sounds like a dope strategy. I do think that Grand Arbiter Augustin IV who is on your list lends to a pretty brutal mill/stax list. Since he is an adviser himself, you could include various azorius advisers in addition to the petitioners. Good luck!

I agree with Enral that Sultai is probably the best color combination for a Persistent Petitioners build. You have access to Bloodbond March and as SynergyBuild mentioned Thrumming Stone as well. This pairs nicely with an Isochron Scepter / Dramatic Reversal combo. Not to mention Paradox Engine shenanigans with Cryptolith Rite or Earthcraft effects on the battlefield.

Oh and Intruder Alarm as well! That would also synergize pretty well and can lead to a lot of broken ways to mill everyone to death. Damia, Sage of Stone is great for having that constant hand refill, but also Muldrotha, the Gravetide can be a decent commander as well.

Although he is banned, Leovold, Emissary of Trest is an advisor if your going for theme and hits that sultai color as well. Hope that helps!

Personally I was going to go Esper to have access to cards like Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts and GAAIV. However, sultai does seem EXTREMELY strong for pertitioners.

Not sure how anyone feels about this, but what about 4 color? We could run Atraxa, Praetors' Voice as commander. Although, it would probably be wiser to run a partner pair. I agree with everyone else here on the cards. Bloodbond March , Thrumming Stone , and Secret Salvage would all be very strong. Since this most likely will be tribal we have access to things like Harsh Mercy , Kindred Dominance , Patriarch's Bidding , etc.

I also second the idea of that EDH group.

I have been tinkering with the idea of using Damia, Sage of Stone as the commander. Having access to Villainous Wealth feels like an interesting alternate wincon as well. With plenty of available mana Rings of Brighthearth can also do some serious hurt.

The current decklist I am working on: The Man,The Myth,The Mill | Persistent Petitioners

An I third the suggestion about the The-Deckwatch, it is a great place with lots of helpful people inside.

I went with a Bant build using Roon of the Hidden Realm myself, wanting to make use of blinking and untapping effects to speed up the milling process. Sultai is definitely looking a good combination as well though.

This is very much a paper exercise at the moment as I'm trying to secure sufficient copies to build the deck and playtest it.
