Sideboard

With Mox Opal banned, the old primer is out of date. Here's my reimagined version of Thopter Foundry Control.

The overall strategy preboard is to reduce your own hand size in order to hide behind Ensnaring Bridge , while also discarding spells from your opponent's hand which you would otherwise lose to. We win by playing both Thopter Foundry and Sword of the Meek , which allows us to spend mana on 1/1 flyers at instant speed. To help find this combo, we have Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas and Whir of Invention , which can also be used to find other useful artifacts. Thirst for Knowledge can replace Ensnaring Bridge when sideboarding; they should never be played together.

There's a lot of annoying math to make everything fit just right. A turn 2 Pentad Prism wants 13 and 13 mana sources, but a turn 3 Liliana of the Veil prefers a deck with 19 . Whir of Invention demands 22 while also requiring an absolute minimum of 17 artifacts, but more ideally 19-21 to reliably tutor Thopter Foundry or Sword of the Meek. River of Tears is exceptionally useful; it produces when played on turns 1 and 3, and when casting Whir on your opponent's turn.
