Pioneer* BR (Rakdos) Control Midrange

Hey, thanks for dropping by!

This deck started as a Rakdos control deck featuring the Chandra tribal package. When I saw the pioneer Fires of Invention deck with the rather clunky mana (I mean Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God, Oko, Thief of Crowns and Supreme Verdict in the same deck?), I realised that the Chandra package synergised extremely well with Fires of Invention but remained consistent and streamlined.

This deck's comparative advantage is that it combines a high level of disruption with flexible and oftentimes explosive win conditions. It can grind very well, but because Fires of Invention breaks a fundamental rule of the game it can also do some rather unfair things. Post-board it does a good job of disrupting the current best decks - Dimir Inverter and Lotus Breach.

The basic game plan is to cast disruptive spells until turn four, when you cast either Fires of Invention or your four mana planeswalkers. Using the synergies of the Chandra planeswalkers you take over the game.

The backbone of the deck is Chandra, Acolyte of Flame. At three mana she does an excellent impression of Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   without the need to transform, and can be used to recycle a spell twice without having to tick up in between. She also accelerates the ultimates of Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Chandra, Fire Artisan from four turns to two, allowing them to ultimate the turn after they enter the battlefield. This gives your opponent precisely one turn to stop them from doing very bad things. Chandra also works well with Fires of Invention, being able to cast spells she digs up from the bin without having to pay for them.

The other main card in the deck is Fires of Invention. This card loves the card advantage engines of Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Chandra, Fire Artisan, allowing you to cast exiled cards for free, as well as the mana sink and rummaging abilities of Chandra's Regulator. The synergy between Fires of Invention and Cavalier of Flame has already been demonstrated at a high level.

The final important card to talk about is Chandra's Regulator. The deck has a lot of legends (including the Regulator itself), and doesn't want too many lands thanks to Fires of Invention, so this card plays an important role in smoothing your draws. For this reason it's best to try to keep your mountains in hand (by playing your other lands) whenever possible. Also, Chandra's Regulator is spectacularly powerful with the planeswalkers in the deck. Being able to copy loyalty abilities for is quite frankly absurd. This is especially the case because it doesn't add or remove loyalty twice, meaning you can copy the more powerful negative loyalty abilities (including ultimates) without having to have double the loyalty cost. Fires of Invention works well with Chandra's Regulator as it frees up mana to be sunk into copying the various abilities of your walkers.

Thanks for taking a look at the deck. Suggestions are most certainly welcome!
