Eldraine is the storybook land of fairytale romances, heroes whose quests take them yonder hill and dale, and enchanted forests alive with mischievous creatures. The gifted storyteller Chulane has encyclopedic knowledge of every such story, fable, and legend told across Eldraine, from the quaintest hamlet to the grandest kingdom. there is no tale too tall for him to spin! The magical tales that Chulane weaves together are given real life and form through his ensorcelling inspiration, and crowds from all across the realm gather to listen and see their favorite stories come alive. Will your opponents make it to the end of the story, or simply get lost as a footnote amongst the pages?

Your Words Carry Weight:

  1. Gather an audience of creatures of all shapes and sizes to effortlessly overwhelm and surpass your opponents. With Chulane, Teller of Tales on the field, each successful creature you cast draws you a card and gives you a chance to ramp extra lands each turn. This turns otherwise unassuming, low-cost creatures like Beloved Princess and Faerie Guidemother into rapid-fire combo tools to cast in quick succession to greatly extend your plays and develop your field presence.

  2. The deck is overwhelmingly jam-packed with creatures and lands, allowing you to maximize value with Chulane. To offset this, nearly half of the included creatures (Flaxen Intruder, Stormkeld Vanguard, Shepherd of the Flock, etc.) in the deck have adventures, which allow them to be cast first as instants or sorceries with myriad effects, and then as creatures after. Many creatures in the deck like Wandermare, Edgewall Innkeeper, and Storyteller Pixie either directly benefit creatures with adventures or benefit from you casting them. Chulane can also use his ability (otherwise used for saving important creatures in a pinch) to bounce creatures with adventures back to your hand, allowing you to reuse them.

  3. Creatures that can tap to produce extra mana like Maraleaf Pixie, Rosethorn Acolyte, and especially Faeburrow Elder, are invaluable to cast and keep around since they help get more creatures and (more importantly) bigger creatures— such as the ferocious Goose Mother— out faster. Think of it like reading ahead. Similarly, cards like Beanstalk Wurm and Three Visits echo Chulane’s ability to let you place extra lands per turn. These will help you maintain a strong presence even when Chulane isn’t available.

  4. The deck has no problem beginning the game with an explosive start and keeping up that pace— Chulane loves weaving a lengthy tale— and hopes to win the game by sheerly outvaluing opponents, but can easily be derailed if Chulane is taken out early and no other mana-generating creatures are around to pick up the slack. Regal Bunnicorn and both of Elusive Otter and Pollen-Shield Hare’s adventure abilities scale with the amount of creatures you’ve amassed. Making creatures big is a dependable way to deal with opposing creatures, such as with Tall as a Beanstalk or Titanic Growth. Giant Inheritance is one of the deck’s few reliable finishers, being able to bestow your growing ranks of creatures with trample.

  5. With a solid wall of defensive creatures at your disposal, you are primed to introduce the fae planeswalker Oko into the game and benefit from his treacherous tricks. Oko, the Trickster can turn himself into a duplicate of one of your creatures or modify the base statline of your creatures into impressive 10/10s, allowing you to potentially swing for game. Oko, Thief of Crowns is a repeatable source of removal in the form of transforming the most problematic creatures you face down into weak, ability-less elks. In keeping with that theme, other removal options in the deck are Turn into a Pumpkin and Frogify. Faerie Slumber Party is the deck’s only answer to clearing the entire board, but comes at the steep affect of removing your own blockers.
