So this here deck is my Dragon Deck, and it revolves around an absolutely AMAZING pairing;
Anything that can Cascade or make Cascade happen, i.e. Maelstrom Wanderer or Maelstrom Nexus, and pair that lovely combo with possibly one of the best cards to Cascade into - Unexpected Results.
So, the deck WILL change if I can get hold of better cards for it, but for now, what it's made of is what I have, and I'd like to break it down a little. So here goes, I guess...
The Big Hitters-
Maelstrom Wanderer - this creature is a BEAST. An 8 mana CMC, the only cards which won't be thrown out by it are the Utvara, Dragonstorm and Bolas, and itself of course. A 7/5 haste lord isn't bad either.
Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund - need I explain. I can cascade into Karrthus from the Wanderer, and he's a 7/7 Dragon-stealing, untapping hasty facepunch. This guy slaughters people if they aren't prepared for him.
Moonveil Dragon - This Dragon gets far too little an amount of love. For six mana, it gives me a 5/5 Flyer that gives my whole field firebreathing. In a deck where I can make all my lands tap for red mana, this can be pretty painful. I've tapped for a +25/+0 boost before, and my opponent was far from impressed.
Scourge of Valkas - this guy is a damn BEAST. If I Cascade into two dragons and have this guy out, that's five damage if I say he's the only Dragon on the field at the time. In a deck that blitzes creatures back and forth with ease, I really can see potential for Scourge of Valkas to dominate and get some heavy damage in before I get round to attacking.
The Support -
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker - my other 8 mana game-screwer. This guy ruins things. He destroys those precious shocklands, expensive artifacts or enchantments my opponent wants to hold on to. He steals their creatures for me, and if I have the Wanderer in play, they'll be fighting that same turn. And, of course, his ultimate. That in itself is a game-winner.
Sarkhan the Mad - is there a downside to this Sarkhan here? I can sacrifice anything I have to make another dragon, which triggers Scourge of Valkas's ability. I can draw a card if need be. I can make my Dragon army crush a player effortlessly. This guy is a game-winner if dropped, easily, even in the multiplayer format
Utvara Hellkite - definitely an expensive support, the same as Bolas, but Utvara Hellkite has two key benefits for me. Firstly, spamming a bunch of dragon tokens to attack with, and make more tokens from, is a VERY. GOOD. THING. Secondly, if I have Scourge of Valkas on the field, these tokens just create a massive surge of damage, and it makes Utvara Hellkite's effect so much more ridiculous.
Maelstrom Nexus - Perhaps the most important card in this deck, Maelstrom Nexus paves the way for chaos for me. Drop this and watch my Bolas become a cascading planeswalker, see the Maelstrom Wanderer cascade THREE times. This card is by far the best in the deck, bar a single playset of...
Unexpected Results - This is the most important card in the deck. This is the big game-changer. I'll break it down clearly.
Ideally, I T1 a green/blue land and drop down a Sol Ring, followed by another blue/green land T2. This means I can play Unexpected Results. Now, I can drop into a nonland card and create chaos, such as Bolas, Wanderer or Moonveil, or I can drop into a land, and play it. It also gives me my Results back, for more chaos next turn! If I get one of my three Wanderers as the card I Results into, I end up with a 7/5 plus two other permanents or stupid sorceries that create chaos. In quite a few cases, it can end up being a T2 win, especially if I do drop into Kaalia of the Vast as well..
Other fun cards -
Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind - A perfect for my deck. I can create no end of pain here with the ability to gain some nice card advantage, which in turn becomes Cascading chaos.
Kaalia of the Vast - because why not add in a 4CMC card I'll almost always cascade into that allows me to smash everything in the face with more dragons? She is insanely fun in here, I tell you, and part of a turn two win strategy..
Bladewing the Risen - Oh, I see you've killed my lovely Niv-Mizzet. Oh, there goes poor little Karrthus. Well then, I'd better get them back. And for that, I have Bladewing. That, and he has the firebreathing effects, as with Moonveil.
Enigma Sphinx
- Chaos is what this card creates. Cascade, Flying, 5/4, and it returns to the third-to-top position of my library? Well, I'd better cast Maelstrom Wanderer and create a Cascade slaughterhouse.
Scion of the Ur-Dragon - dumping dragons into my graveyard to change Scion repeatedly may seem an odd tactic, but it's enough to potentially trigger some real fun. Dumping Scourge of Valkas into the graveyard with him, making him copy it, then slamming in a Patriarch's Bidding can set off some crazy tactics, especially if there are more dragons in the graveyard, which, I'd expect there to be if I was to pay the 3BB cost for the Bidding.
Overall, I'd like to thank you for reading this (if you indeed have taken your time to do so) and I hope you can leave me a comment on how to further this deck, or even just a nod of approval or +1!, Thanks again!
