Sideboard

My deck list for Sensei's Divining Shop's (http://www.senseisdiviningshop.fi/) first tournament of 2017, featuring Zur the Enchanter. I've played the deck in previous tournaments, and find it fun. It also has surprising amount of game against many of the decks in the format.

I'm playing two Steel of the Godhead mainboard to maximize the T3 Geist of Saint Traft, T4 Geist+ Steel of the Godhead, oops I win -scenarios. Other than that the main deck is pretty much the industry standard for the deck. 4 Fatal Push and 2 Path to Exile along with the Detention Spheres is hopefully enough removal (edit: there probably should be a 3/3 split). I also cut a Creeping Tar Pit for a basic because of the speed of the format and the amount of non-basic land hate (Blood Moon is not good for the deck).

Sideboard has 2 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar to boost Lingering Soul tokens and apply pressure with planeswalkers. The sideboard options with Esper-colors are one of the main reasons to play the deck.

Ended up in 12th place from 66 competitors, even after starting 0-2. End result was 5-2 with matches against:

  • Mardu Nahiri, lost 1-2 (Nahiri -> Emrakul was a problem- couldn't find D-Spheres for the Nahiri, and Lingering Soul tokens protected the planeswalker from my attacks)

  • Eldrazi Tron, lost 0-2 (game 1 was winnable, but I lost it after horrible mistakes- game 2 was a washout)

  • RW Nahiri Emrakul, won 2-1 in tight games (in the last game I attacked with opponent's Emrakul to annihilate his board, but despite that ended up having to ultimate Jace and mill him out)

  • GR Tron, won 2-1 with a fast Geist + Steel beatdowns

  • Temur Control (Snapcaster, bolts, Cryptic Command, Remand), won 2-0 with a fast Geist + Steel beatdowns

  • Jund, won 2-1. Lingering Souls was really good, and opponent had no real answer to Zur or the Geist.

  • Bant Eldrazi, won 2-0 with a fast Geist + Steel beatdowns

MVP: Geist of Saint Traft + Steel of the Godhead
