Maybeboard

A Fun Izzet deck based on casting lost of Instants, and some Sorceries, to kill off the opponent.

All-Stars

The two main All-stars of the deck are Goblin Electromancer and Guttersnipe .

With the Electromancer, All the damage instants and sorceries go from being 2, 3, and 4 drops into 1, 2, and 3 drops. Most notably, Lightning Strike becomes a pseudo Lightning Bolt and Ionize becomes a Counterspell with direct damage added.

With Guttersnipe, you can hit your opponents for damage every time you cast an instant and sorcery, even before they resolve. Lightning Strike suddenly hits for 5 damage instead of 3, Ionize and Sonic Assault hit for 4 instead of 2, and everything else hits for 2.

If you ever have both the Electromancer and Guttersnipe on the battlefield at the same time, then it is only a matter of time until you win.

Other Creatures

Crackling Drake also grows in power for every instant or sorcery cast, so it makes a great late play if the game drags out.

Runaway Steam-Kin can also grow from any red spell we cast. I only put in two as they aren't essential, but can be nice to draw to benefit off of our spells.

Niv-Mizzet, Parun is great about both pinging (for both burn, and creature killing) and drawing for each instant/sorcery cast, and punishes opponents for casting these spells as well.

The Spells

Lightning Strike for the direct damage, and Ionize for control and damage.

Negate can be a decent counter as well, most of the time.

Crash Through can help with getting Crackling Drake through, and draws a card in the process.

Banefire is meant for Removal or Finishing off an opponent late game.

Lava Coil can help with creature removal as well.

Opt and Radical Idea help with card draw, and Risk Factor is too good to leave out.

The Explosion half of Expansion / Explosion makes a good late game play to draw out your deck while also burning the opponent. Also, the Expansion half can help with stealing a good spell by an opponent, or doubling up one of our own.

Lands

This deck is fairly low CMC and roughly half Blue / half Red, so 21 Lands total.

1 Steam Vents and 2 Sulfur Falls because I already have them, and 9 of both Islands and Mountains. This deck can be optimized with a Playset of Sulfur Falls and Steam Vents, but sadly I do not have the money to buy them at the moment.

Add a bunch of Izzet Guild Kit Mountains and Islands for extra flavor.

Sideboard

Banefire for addition big creature removal.

Disdainful Stroke to counter any opponent's big spells.

Essence Scatter to take out creatures.

Fiery Cannonade to wipe out wide creature boards.

Lava Coil for extra creature hate.

Negate for additional spell countering.

Sonic Assault for addition Creature control and direct damage.

Updates Add

I haven't been able to make a second FNM since the first due to the holidays being hectic for me. Once I get settled in, I'll run this deck in a second event. Until then, I've made a few changes. Mainly Niv-Mizzet, Parun to help out the deck in long games with the extra draws, and swapping out Maximize Altitude with Crash Through since it seems to be more helpful in swinging past other creatures.

CHANGES:

Mainboard:

REMOVED 2x Sonic Assault

REMOVED 1x Crackling Drake

REMOVED 2x Maximize Altitude

ADDED 2x Crash Through

ADDED 2x Niv-Mizzet, Parun

ADDED 1x Negate

Sideboard:

REMOVED 1x Negate

ADDED 1x Sonic Assault
