I decided to try my hand at a SCG Open tourney coming up soon and thought that running a basic Blue deck without any of the crazy combos would work well for me. Feedback is always welcome!

The idea here is to slow the game down with my control cards while sifting through my deck for the Delver of Secrets   and True-Name Nemesis.

Creatures:

True-Name Nemesis --> What's not to like about this card. Just plain nuts.

Delver of Secrets   --> Pretty much a standard in blue legacy it seems. With the amount of Scry I have n the deck I'm hoping it won't be that difficult to get them to flip.

Spells (Counters):

Counterspell --> One of my all time favorite counters

Daze --> Getting it in my opening had (along with an Island of course) is fantastic.

Stifle --> Very useful in the early game to deny the fetch lands.

Force of Will --> But of course.

Misdirection --> Very useful against the Burn, Storm, and U/R Delver decks.

Spells (Control):

Vedalken Shackles --> Absolutely a must in this type of deck. Synergizes really well with High Market.

Standstill --> Dropped almost as soon as the board state is favorable to me. Can delay my opponent or give me a quick 3 draw.

Helm of Obedience --> Maindecked in anticipation of the graveyard hate being aimed at Treasure Cruise and Dig Through Time.

Shimmer --> Sleeper card of this deck. End result being that my opponent only has the selected land type every OTHER turn.

Spells (Utility):

The following spells are here to help me set up Delver as well as dig for the cards I need, when I need them. I didn't put Brainstorm in here because I think I have enough ways to dig through the deck and I'd rather be running more counters.

Ponder --> Nice way to dig and shuffle away bad 'Jacestorms'.

Dig Through Time --> Crazy broken at instant speed in this type of deck.

Treasure Cruise --> Legal Ancestral Recall..? Sure, why not.

Jace, the Mind Sculptor --> Because it's Jace...

Academy Ruins --> used to retrieve the shackles should they be Counterspell; Abrupt Decay; Disenchant ; etc.

Sideboard:

This is still somewhat of a work in progress, but I think it's pretty close to finished.

Back to Basics --> I'm considering maindecking this as it's so so good in Legacy play. Especially as I'm primarily a mono-blue deck with very little non-basic lands

Blue Elemental Blast --> obvious choice when paired up against Red

Copy Artifact --> Great against Affinity as well as Deathblade decks. I don't mind you playing Batterskull, so long as I get to copy it :)

Llawan, Cephalid Empress --> I plan on boarding this in against mirror matches (Delver/True-Name). With any luck it will completely lock out my opponent.

Cursed Totem --> great against elves and Stone Forge

Pithing Needle --> Extra

Submerge --> Mostly for Elves and Goyfe

Seasinger --> Along with the Cephalid Empress, I would use this against any Blue deck.

Maybeboard:

High Market or City of Shadows --> I was considering these mostly as a sac outlet for whatever I grab with the Shackles.

Took the deck to my local LGS. They were running a Legacy tournament and I end up making the top 4. I went 1-2 (Loss) against an Esper control deck. 2-0 (win) against affinity. 1-0 (Win/Time) against a Deathblade deck. Overall the deck performed really well. Shackles and Mindslaver were the MVPs of the deck, giving me enough time to set up multiple Delver/True-Names for the win. There were two games where I was able to use Mindslaver to cast my opponents Stoneforge Mystic, equip it with Umezawa's Jitte and kill off his board, following it up with using his own Swords to Plowshares to kill the Mystic. Good times :)

Forcefield definitely took my opponents by surprise. It was really effective against both True-Name and Batterskull, limiting the Batterskull to only 1 life gain each turn. Then I would play a Master Thief, take control of it, and follow that up with a boarded in Copy Artifact.

The deck is a lot of fun, the cantrips generally come at the right time allowing me to cycle through the deck and draw reasonably fast.
