It all started when I saw Master the Way and thought it would be a hilarious card to build around.
Originally, I wanted to take advantage of the fact that Kruphix, God of Horizons allows for an unlimited hand and draw a ton of cards so that I can win with a giant Master the Way, because I felt like Kruphix had to have a home somewhere right?! What if I Mastered the Way with 20 cards in my hand?! ....an Izzet man can dream.
After doing my research, I realized that this strategy isn't very doable...but it isn't necessary either! Thanks to some funky synergy with black.
It seems that best cards for potentially drawing a TON of cards at once in standard are Life's Legacy and Hunter's Prowess, the latter seeming like too much of a slow, "win-more" card to work with.
I concluded that to truly Master the Way, I want to consistently draw and fill my hand, rather than draw a ton at once. Two cards that do this extremely well are Dakra Mystic and Dictate of Kruphix. Look Kruphix! You're doing something!
However, still I wanted a high-powered creature to sac for cards galore via Life's Legacy.Chasm Skulker fits the bill nicely, being a 3-drop that gets pumped from all of the drawing I want to do anyways, and gets sac'd only to divide into tokens for even more value.
I also don't want the opponent to feel good about all of their free draws from Dakra Mystic and Dictate of Kruphix, so the synergy from Fate Unraveler
+
Master of the Feast
+
Sign in Blood
really adds another dimension to the deck, with two new win-cons in the board.
Master of the Feast comes out early and unlike my other creatures, doesn't need help to be a huge threat, and demands the removal that might have otherwise hit a growing Chasm Skulker. This guy puts the draw in drawback, but that's exactly what I want when Fate Unraveler is out.
Fate Unraveler makes drawing wayyy less fun for everyone but me, and Sign in Blood can now effectively burn opponents for 4.
With Chasm Skulker
+
Dakra Mystic
+
Fate Unraveler
out, tapping an Island now draws me a card, gets a +1/+1 counter, and takes 1 life from opponents.
I don't expect this to be competitive, but I would definitely love to win the occasional game with such a janky deck.
So please, tell me what you think, and throw out any ideas you have!! I'm really unsure about my instants and my sideboard. I started playing magic about 6 months ago, and I know there's a lot I have to learn about deck building. So any feedback is much appreciated.
