GLOBAL WARMING

Global Warming: A Modern Crisis(Pictured: Al Gore casting Banefire+Furnace of Rath)

Description

The world lies in peril it is up to you, Planeswalker, to take on this challenge for the ages... In America.

This deck is built to hold your opponent off from taking any decisive political action until it is much too late to reverse the course of the slow, impending climate-changing doom. Not even the mighty MANBEARPIG can stop you. The stall mechanic is built around copying delay instants and global destruction with Isochron Scepter.

Deck Breakdown

Key Combos

The acidic clouds roll in upon the skies, ready your Isochron Scepter with:
Dawn Charm (It couldn't be man-made phenomenon, could it?)
Silence (Pay off those pesky scientists)

Cast the world aflame with Magma Jet as a Lightning Helix streaks across the sky, bringing humanity to its knees.

Assemble the factory of death Blasting Station, smashing the spawn of Young Pyromancer to pump out more greenhouse gasses to fuel Chandra's Phoenix. (Isochron Scepter does cast the copied card, don't get rules lawyered like me and call the judge if they get salty.)

Instants

Boros Charm 4 solid damage and an answer to some pesky Greenpeace activist breaking your Isochron Scepter.
Magma Jet Early game staple, this will keep you alive long enough to assemble your protection or it could be the herald of greater storms on the horizon...
Lightning Helix Short the stocks on your competition. Their loss is your gain.
Angel's Grace The world cracks asunder, spewing force ash and opportunity. The angels themselves herald our diabolical plot.
Silence Our corporate public relations teams are working overtime with this one.

Creatures

Young Pyromancer Armageddon is here. Pray it is swift.
Chandra's Spitfire The world writhes in anguish and then rises again like a phoenix with each mass extinction event.
Kargan Dragonlord Power him up like Lord Freiza, blowin' up planets and shit. Use up unspent resources on him when all you can do is stall.
Padeem, Consul of Innovation The G8 of the deck, rich people meet to protect our industry of death.

Sorcery

Fabricate The research division of the deck, we'll make sure we have what we need when the time comes.

Planeswalkers

Chandra, Torch of Defiance Who better to represent the deck other than the queen of fire herself?

Sideboard

Wear / Tear Take that and rewind it back. Ludacris got the flow to make ya booty go (clap)
Worship Prayers will not save them.
Leonin Abunas Magnum level protection.
Grafdigger's Cage + Rest in Peace Tell those dredge dudes to dredge themselves a fresh hole so you can bury them.
Runed Halo C-c-combo Breaker!
Witchbane Orb Always remember to protect your nuts, no one likes roasted nuts.
Rest in Peace Dredging up the graves will do them no good, for the dead sleep eternally and hold no answers.
Blood Moon The land's coagulated and my mind's incarcerated but my helmet's ventilated... BLOOD OCEAN.

Updates Add

First time playing the deck out in the wild since the overhaul to include creatures. Overall learned which cards were up to par, which to cut or move to the sideboard, made a few misplays that cost me and got one huge upgrade tip which will really improve the deck.

Had a lot of fun playing it, lost first game to an infinite life gain Kitchen Finks combo with no scepters. Was able to Blood Moon second game but then got land flooded and stalled out. This game made me rethink the inclusion of Worship in the mainboard and I cut the idea of using Strionic Resonator, it just was a dead draw in too many early situations and not worth the mana late game.

The second round was against a deck that used a bunch of ramp to get to Griselbrand keep discarding cards and gaining life off of effects to mill down to a ton of lands in hand and then play Borborygmos Enraged. The first game was looking good with a scepter with Lightning Helix and Chandra out fast but didn't see the combo coming and used a Negate too early. Second game came down to another misplay on my part, I was running Faith's Shield instead of Angel's Grace (more on that later) was at 8 life used a Dawn Charm to stop the damage from Griselbrand when I should have let it hit taking me to 1 and allowing the secondary effect of Shield to come into play and stop the combo damage and could have won the next turn (let alone he milled to 2 cards).

The third round was with a player I have never won against who plays a green-white deck which pumps creatures. I'm pretty sure he plays in PTQ's and things like that so I was not expecting anything but to learn from the match. First game goes as expected, I was able to hold out longer than I thought, though. The last game was my favorite of the night. Blood Moon bought me time shutting off his Gavony Township. I had Faith's Shield on two scepters, used shock lands to get down to 5 had protection from green and used a Leonin Abunas to block his one white creature until the second scepter was active for white. With my only blocker gone, he was able to Reclamation Sage one of the scepters when they were down. I was able to cast Chandra, Torch of Defiance and minus to kill the one white creature he could pump and hit in for the win... but it had protection from red. At the end of the match, he suggested I swap out Faith's Shield for Angel's Grace, I had never heard of that card before. While it does take away some protection for the scepters, there already are 7 mainboard cards and more in the sideboard for that. Went and bought some right away.

I might try this deck again next time with the changes, but also have to test out Liliana Eats Your Brain and my R/W Norin Sisters deck I'll be uploading soon. I think with a bit more time to learn this deck and the tweaks from playing here it will be able to pull off some wins.

Highlight of the night was from a nearby standard game where two players were arguing over if a card was restricted and after the plaintiff lost began shouting #alternatefacts.
