No specific list, but what can white do against planeswalkers in modern? assume we are playing something like Soul Sisters, so a spell with is somewhat doable here too.

aside from the OP Mana Tithe?

Just kidding. You've got a few options, though all the ones I can think of are at the 3 mana range. You've got effects like Oblivion Ring, you've got Anguished Unmaking, or just straight up Hero's Downfall since you're running black.

Oh, and you can also run Pithing Needle or Phyrexian Revoker

May 2, 2016 12:35 p.m.

Are you planning to make a Planeswalker hate deck? The only planeswalker removals I know come from black and red. They are Dreadbore and Hero's Downfall.

Other than attacking at them, not much; for the most part, direct Planeswalker removal is going to be a Hero's Downfall or Dreadbore, maybe Silumgar's Command but that seems way to slow for a Lili of the Veil or T3 Karn in Tron.

The only white cards I that come to mind which directly target Planeswalker's in white are Quarantine Field and Nevermore if you know what's coming. Artifacts might be a better bet though because Phyrexian Revoker and Pithing Needle are a thing!

I think the one planeswalker you should be worried about in the modern format is Liliana of the Veil (Tron sees less play since Eye is banned so I'm less concerned about Karn). Therefore I'd recommand a good old catch-all Celestial Purge. Plain and simple :)

frusciante7 pinpointed the best answer in Celestial Purge, but something like Oblivion Ring can also do the job.

At SCG Milwaukee Tron made #2 running Sanctum of Ugin instead. Plus with Oath of Nissa I've seen Tron Superfriends to! With Ugin, the Spirit Dragon,Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker Karn Liberated and Garruk, Apex Predator all as win cons

I like the idea of Celestial Purge, but I think Pithing Needle may be he way to go here. That can even be a preemptive strike if you knew what you're looking to lock out. The purge is a dead card until I see what I am waiting for and even then, that Walker is getting an ability off. Also, needle hits all of them. Thanks guys

You're flooding the board with creatures in soul sisters. Just attack them, the only one listed that's really suited to stopping all of what soul sisters is doing is ugin, for him you need an actual answer. I want to point out that Oblivion Ring is very very unideal against tron, as again ugin or karn can remove it, allowing the other to come back into play for a really really big blow out. I want to say Anguished Unmaking is definitely your best bet for just a removal spell if you're in soul-sisters. Card's great and you can afford the three life in most games, especially the tron matchups where walkers are most concerning.

I'm partial to Soul Tithe in casual/edh. I mean, I guess it could do something against a planeswalker, but of course it's already out on the board and if it's their wincon, then eh, they'll just keep playing it.

May 2, 2016 3:35 p.m.

capriom85 Pithing Needle can also be a dead card if you drop it and they never ever draw the card you named. Just sayin'! :)

I don't think there is a better solution, but Needle is a good lock card in any case

not sure how viable it is but Tragic Arrogance

Which leaves them a Planeswalker still and wipes my board.

Phyrexian Revoker also works and can be put into play with an AEther Vial while the walker is on the stack.

I second Suppression Field. Also stops basically every single infinite combo ever.

The only walkers in afraid of are Liliana of the Veil and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. Both can effectively hose my game plan unchecked. I should be able to remove Lili through damage, but Ugin needs to be put in check before he comes down. I think a 1 of Pithing Needle in the side is appropriate for this. I don't see quite enough Tron decks to warrant more than one slot.

For Ugin you can add green and insert Gaddock Teeg ;)

Already splashing black for Lingering Souls Sorin, Solemn Visitor and then id have to add Temple Garden because I'm the guy that uses Flagstones of Trokair as my fetch.

May 3, 2016 8 a.m.

Ahah ok! With Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Smallpox and Bloodghast? :D

Nvm, I love kinda like Gaddock so I just mentionned it tbh!

Haha. That would be unexpected from soul sisters

@capriom85: You only have, what? 5 cards with activated abilities in your entire deck? Ghost Quarter, Sorin, Solemn Visitor, and Windbrisk Heights?

Decks with Liliana of the Veil typically play green and 1 other color, meaning they need fetchlands. They also run a variety of manlands. Once you factor in Scavenging Ooze, Gavony Township, Liliana of the Veil, etc., needing 2 more mana for each of these cards means they have to win with...a Tarmogoyf and some kill spells? That they may never cast because they're locked out?

Almost every card in Tron besides the Tron pieces themselves and sorceries (Ancient Stirrings, Sylvan Scrying, and Pyroclasm) have activated abilities. Their hand that was an automatic keep with Urza's Mine, Expedition Map, Urza's Power Plant, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, 2 Karn Liberated, and Oblivion Stone is now complete garbage if you cast a turn 2 Suppression Field on the play.

Boarding out Sorin, Solemn Visitor (he's not fast enough in these matchups) and 1~2 Honor of the Pure into Suppression Field can be absolutely devastating for your opponent.

Or you can just play a Pithing Needle, that's probably just as good.

Thanks for the stellar advice, sylvannos. clearly if I knew the meta that well I'd have known that myself

May 3, 2016 5:23 p.m.

sylvannos says... #25

@capriom85: The only thing I'd be careful about is diluting the deck, especially if you're expecting Pyroclasm or Night of Souls' Betrayal (Honor of the Pure helps counteract them). Pithing Needle is nice because you can just swap out a single Soul Warden for it.

@capriom85: Jund and sometimes 8-Rack boards it in against aggro.

capriom85 says... #28

There is an 8 rack on my playgroup. What are you suggesting as far as that goes? Not to overextend?

May 3, 2016 6:20 p.m.

sylvannos says... #29

@capriom85: Sundering Growth and Blood Baron of Vizkopa are going to be your all-stars. You're mostly worried about Ensnaring Bridge. They'll board in Bile Blight, Drown in Sorrow, Night of Souls' Betrayal, and maybe Illness in the Ranks if they're not running Pack Rat. Damnation is another possibility.

You pretty much don't care about any of those as long as you don't overextend. Keeping a dude around to sacrifice to Liliana of the Veil (protecting Blood Baron of Vizkopa) and you'll go to pound town on them.
