Best Reanimation Targets

Commander Deck Help forum

Do you all know what is the best single (Not like Mik/Trik) target to reanimate?

I can play any color, and am looking to reanimate at sorcery speed, so no Eldrazi that shuffle in.

I currently am looking at Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur, Iona, Shield of Emeria, and Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger, Elesh Norn and Sheoldred

Am I missing anything huge/that would help?

I can't speak for Commander, but Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur is the reason I've been asked not to bring my reanimator deck to my own kitchen table. Something about setting opponents' hand size to zero on the first turn was seen as unfun. One much-overlooked aspect of Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur--in addition to drawing you cards, he will generally result in your having more than 7 cards in-hand, meaning you get to discard. This is a pretty easy way to fill your graveyard with reanimation targets.

Cards like Platinum Angel and Platinum Emperion do not necessarily win you the game, but they certainty put a thorn in your opponents' side.

Flayer of the Hatebound is a decent option in 1v1 game, as it both burns and provides removal.

Phage the Untouchable!!!!!!!!...Or not...

Sun Titan and his titan buddies are pretty good.

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Magister Sphinx, and The Mimeoplasm come to my mind for recursion targets.

Kederekt Leviathan is basically a Cyclonic Rift with Animate Dead or Dance of the Dead. :)

I wanna put it back into my Mimeoplasm deck but space is tight :(

I'll pick up the Magister Sphinx, it seems really strong when used properly. Gisela is a little slow. Are any of the bringers any good?

It That Betrays is an eldrazi that doesn't shuffle itself in. Noxious Gearhulk and the rest of the hulks ain't bad . Rune-Scarred Demon stromtide leviathan I cant tag storm tide for whatever reason

I generally would want something with immediate value, but I'll take It That Betrays

The strongest bringers in general are probably Bringer of the Black Dawn and Bringer of the Blue Dawn.

Bringer of the Red Dawn and Bringer of the White Dawn are very strong in the right situation.

Bringer of the Green Dawn is fine. I guess...

They are upkeep triggers though so reanimating at sorc speed means they have to stick a whole turn. So while I like them I don't know if you want them for this.

Yeah... I am at a loss for a bit. I also run C-Sphinx so I only have 7 target. Kinda sad.

Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur is imo the best target with Razaketh, the Foulblooded as a close second. The only reason I rank him second is you need at least one more creature in play to go ham.

Other great ones are Consecrated Sphinx, Nezahal, Primal Tide. Pestilence Demon is a personal favourite of mine too.

If you can reanimate at instant speed like I do in my The Scarab God deck, some nice options open up like Torrential Gearhulk, Steel Hellkite, It That Betrays and a personal piece of tech I have found useful: Keeper of Keys

Other honourable mentions are Rune-Scarred Demon, Kederekt Leviathan, Sire Of Insanity, Meteor Golem, Niv-Mizzet, Parun, Worldgorger Dragon, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, and Kokusho, the Evening Star,

Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Master of Cruelties are both fun options

Will def pick up a Nezahal, Primal Tide, Aphoticate, Sire Of Insanity might be a good pickup, you know. Niv Mizzet isn't... bad, but I am not a instant/sorcery deck despite that I run a number of them between the Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, Reanimate, Exhume, Buried Alive, Entomb, etc. effects in the deck. I do have the enchantment-reanimators for World-G-Dragon, but don't have an outlet for infinite mana and so will pass. The rest are a little much IMO.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Archetype of Endurance are both possibly options... my issue is that they don't hurt the opponents. Still might be worth running, Unlife.

Aphoticate & Triton, I will get a Kederekt Leviathan, but it is more of a gimmicky-great card than a wincon.

Worldgorger Dragon infinitely combos with Animate Dead and Dance of the Dead, just make sure you have a sac outlet.

SynergyBuild Cool, GL, I hope you like the deck.

I hear you on Kederekt and Niv, Parun. You probably already know this but just in case you don't I wanted to point out a feature of Kederekt is being able to replay it over and over again with enchantment reanimators like Reanimate Dead. It bounces the enchantment back ti the hand which then puts itself back into the GY. It is just stall though, but it can be a fun way to cheese. I did stop playing it myself though so ya, do whatever feels right.

In a blind meta you may well be correct about Niv, I've never actually tried him so I really don't know. On paper I think I like him in a meta that has a lot of instants and sorceries since he draws you a card when other people play them too. But thats just something I persinally want to test out. I saw Diestodoomblade's vial/thrasios reanimator deck (on mtgsalvation) currently using it so thats the main reason I mentioned it.

TheAmazingSteve as I already explained, I don't have an outlet for infinite flickers/mana

Some of the other things I've had in various decks of mine that could work: Demon of Dark Schemes, Archfiend of Despair, Necroplasm, and Dire Fleet Ravager.
