Release of SOI: Sisay deck updates... —April 10, 2016

It has been a while since some changes have been made. With the official release of 'Shadows of Innistrad' the following changes have been made for a next extensive round of playtests.

OUT:

IN:

  • Drownyard Temple : I want to test this. Has potential with landfall and sac cards
  • Sigarda, Heron's Grace : Powerhouse! Protection for Sisay and a token generator to fuel my Cradle with dead graveyard cards

ADDED TO SIDEBOARD:

Time for more playtesting. I updated my maybeboard with a few new cards that have been mentioned by T/O users, which I am truely grateful for. I would love your few cents about them.

A special thanks goes to enpc, aznb01777, Rinsewind, Perfect_Phyrexia, Daedalus19876, RupertPhd, user:illumfolly for all the meanful comments and discussion you brought to this place!

Hi takio18. Thanks for your comment. In the past I played with Karametra, God of Harvests in a less competitive build. The thing is that she ramps too late for me; the ramp already present gives me a lighting fast start staight away. And finding her takes me a turn, which I would rather use to get something more threatening to my opponent.

All I have to say Ocelot44

She knows!

Thanks for your comments RupertPhd

Mageta the Lion & Shield of Kaldra are both interesting, but not good enough to make it to the mainboard. I believe that my current cards are stronger.

Wooded Foothills is indeed a perfect card to get lands like Ocelot44 mentioned.

Great mana fixers, these off-color fetches. And you are allowed yes :-)

Lol thanks for that, PartyJ :3 That made my day

Hi,

very nice deck, indeed.I was searching and filtered for "legendary land" and I found one that you could put in.Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx that can generate a good ramp for mid-late game, if you need it as mentioned above.

The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale may cause some problems to other aggro decks due to huge mana mantainment. Combine it with your Gaea's Cradle and I think you can calm down huge armies and/or cause problems and delay to other decks.

Being Legendary lands, you can tutor them whenever you need

+1 for you deck, anyway:)

Hi mr_lag, thank you for your nice comment. I had Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx in this build before Gaea's Cradle was in my possesion. But having the cradle means that I no longer really need the shrine.

The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale is a sweet card indeed. The pricetag is steep and I don't think I will be able to afford this any time soon ;-)

Meanwhile I was able to obtain a copy of Horizon Canopy and put it in the mainboard. Saffi Eriksdotter gave up his spot for this land card. enpc made me aware of this card, payed more attention to him during the latest plays, which gave me the feeling I would not miss him so much in this build.

Heroes' Podium is good for when you have a bunch of legendary creatures out.

The inclusion of Scapeshift seems a little confusing to me, you do have a fair number of utility lands, but nothing particularly game winning. I feel like you'd be better off playing more ramp to accelerate into Sisay more consistently. Maybe something like Voyaging Satyr that would be relevant early with ramp and then you can pair it with cradle in the late game for extra value.

What's your thoughts on new Sigarda in here? You have a decent amount of humans. Any use for the token gen?

March 17, 2016 2:04 p.m.

enpc says... #12

New Sigarda is a meta call card. She has some benefits in that she shuts down spells and abilities that target you which is useful. She also lets you turn spent ramp cards (like Nature's Lore) into creatures which help fuel Gaea's Cradle which can be relevant. The ability is also good against Reanimate effects effects on your creatures if needs be. Comes down to your playgroup a bit.

And what are the thoughts about Odric, Lunarch Marshal?

March 18, 2016 4:37 a.m.

enpc says... #14

Eh, I'd rather Concerted Effort. Only one you really care about is indestructible and Avacyn does that anyway.

March 18, 2016 5 a.m.

PartyJ says... #15

Yes, but Odric is fetable with Sisay. And spreading Hexproof and lifelink endgame is something worth noting. Not that I feel its groundbreaking, but nevertheless something to debate about :-)

I do like Sigarda and as you stated, she can help Gaea's Cradle produce more mana :-) Perhaps I leave both Sigarda's in the deck and swap 8.5 tails for the new one....

March 18, 2016 5:11 a.m.

enpc says... #17

Seems like a good swap. As for Odric, sure you get hexproof during combat, but that still leaves you open to precombat sorcery speed removal. Just seems underwhelming.

If you're looking for the perfect answer to a mono-colored deck, I'd try Iona, Shield of Emeria. Her effect seems pretty staxy to me, so I think she'd be a good fit.

March 19, 2016 7:23 a.m.

PartyJ says... #19

@ Dredge4life : This card is just too good. In my local meta they hate this card. I rather avoid the extra hate from people playing mono colored. I still need to get home afterwards ;-)

Fixing my ramp to have a higher chance to get my commander out at least a turn sooner:

More changes probably to follow :-)

Have you played around with Dosan the Falling Leaf before PartyJ? He could act like a tutor-able Grand Abolisher.

March 27, 2016 1:40 p.m.

PartyJ says... #23

Hi Perfect_Phyrexia , in the past I did play with him until Dragonlord Dromoka came out. He is better than Dosan the Falling Leaf. When my commnader is on the battlefield I usually have soon enough the required mana to cast the dragon.

Dosan also prevents me from casting spells in opponents turns, while the dragon does not have this downside.

What do you think of the cards on my maybeboard?

March 27, 2016 2:33 p.m.

Traverse the Ulvenwald looks quite good, its a basic search at its worst and a better Worldly Tutor at its best. I like Oblation as a good form of removal and good card draw in a pinch. It's never fun giving opponents cards though and personally I think Grasp of Fate is better in the removal department for 3 mana. I play with a big group of people so I play a lot of effects that hit each player as opposed to targeting. If you have a bunch of ridiculous lands and creatures than Living Wish is completely op. I've seen it used in really weird 60 card urzatron eldrazi decks but if you stack your sideboard around it it should be great. Glittering Wish exists too if you have some good multicolored spells. Do you know if you can have any color in your sideboard?

March 27, 2016 4:02 p.m.

or "outside the game" also run Aura Shards :) its too op
