TheOfficialCreator on Why Does Xavier Sal Have …

DemonDragonJ because Xavier was built as a value engine and not an outlet, the difference being that the exchange between his two abilities is meant to be more equal than it would be at instant speed.

I imagine they probably made this shift after the printing of Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter and Zimone and Dina showed Wizards that their original notion of what this design space's gameplay would look like was off base. So they corrected it. (That's just my theory though)

Crow-Umbra You can checkout the Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter decklist here.

I love it. I think, I managed to make this deck play like you are constructing a machine.

My playgroup hates it, because it can end the game in quick and hard to predict way (keep in mind my playgroup is guide young - we play for 2years)

Lmfao that's awesome EvolutionBaby. How are you liking Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter? I threw together a theoretical list a while ago, that was basically just a combination of my Osgir, the Reconstructor deck and treasure support from my Prosper, Tome-Bound deck.

Monarch is a lot of fun, and it's much easier to keep track of for sure. I considered White Plume Adventurer for my Party deck, but left it out (for now), because of the whole Monarch house rule being introduced. I didn't want to create headaches of having to track both Initiative and Monarch at the same time.

Crow-Umbra I played White Plume Adventurer during my last game night, but with different deck, Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter. I was able to make a deal with a guy who missed a land drop, and… that was it. I pulled an infinite combo two turns later ;) anyway the initiative have a politics potential, but in my opinion, it’s a little bit weaker then monarch.

Coward_Token - Yeah I think it's the face. Kind of gives me Frylock vibes

Gleeock - Definitely some great adds for casual Glissa decks. So far only Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter and maybe the today spoiled Gruesome Realization have a chance of making it into my list. Liberator is a better Shimmer Myr and having a second option in the deck is quite nice. Yes Vedalken Orrery exists but the difference between 3 and 4 mana is huge. With that being said, my more casual Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter deck has a lot of new toys to try out.

I wasn't expecting for so much Titania, Protector of Argoth support in this set, but Awaken the Woods and Persistent Behemoth definitely warrant consideration.

Seeing Fauna Shaman and Painful Quandary reprints are quite nice.

Union of the Third path seems like a big deal for White. This is, to my knowledge, one of the first straight draw effects in White that doesn't have a symmetrical or additional requirement clause.

Gixian Puppeteer is pretty cool. Possibly a shoe-in for new Sheoldred, new Braids, Seizan, or Nekusar style decks

Thank you Andramalech! In my 4ish years playing EDH, Mardu has definitely grown to be my favorite three color combo. Sultai was my favorite for a bit, but I got kinda bored with it. My Mardu love started with my Alesha, Who Smiles at Death deck, Awkward Eye Contact with Death (retired), which got recycled into Isshin earlier this year. I don't currently own this Shanid deck; this list is more a running concept if I did decide to pick it up. Some of the pieces from the new Necron WH40K precon also have me reconsidering Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter lol.

Alesha was a fun balancing act between aggro, control, and mobilizing a combo. I changed her theme up about 2-3 times over the 2 years that I had the deck running. I know I'll eventually revisit her, but I'm having too much fun with Isshin and honing it more. My play group seems to be coming around on proxies, so I might proxy up her pieces that are currently in Isshin. I might end up with 3 proxied Mardu decks at this rate lol.

My meta tends to lean aggro and go-wide, so that's more or less where my love for beat-face strats comes from. I still love combos when they can fit with a deck.

I think that Mardu has received a lot of love from WotC in the past few years in terms of design diversity. I mean:

Thank you KBK7101! This is my first time trying out Naya. Once Mazzy was spoiled, I swapped out anything with Blue in the color cost from my Tuvasa deck, and swapped in all the Red stuff I thought would fit. All in all, I think I made about a 45 card swap, including lands.

There was plenty of cool stuff in CLB. I think its proximity to Double Master's 2 dampened its debut and reception; especially given the quality of reprints coming up. I added a handful of CLB stuff to my Isshin deck, and have some other singles in binders for future use. I thought of making Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter, and combining my Prosper and Osgir decks to make it happen.

I do like both your suggestions. I could see Brought Back as a likely test swap with Faith's Reward. I do like how much cheaper Brough Back is.

Uril, the Miststalker is an absolute house. I could likely swap out Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer for it, def seems like a more proactive bomb. A friend in my playgroup used to run a Uril deck, and currently runs Marisi, Breaker of the Coil and Kardur, Doomscourge as commanders. I've experienced firsthand how hard Uril can be to deal with lol.
