Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos

Legendary Creature — Phyrexian Cat

Whenever you cast a Phyrexian creature or artifact creature spell, incubate X, where X is that spell's mana value. (Create an Incubator token with X +1/+1 counters on it and "2: Transform this artifact." It transforms into a 0/0 Phyrexian artifact creature.)

At the beginning of each end step, if a Phyrexian died under your control this turn, proliferate. (Dying is being put into the graveyard from the battlefield. Tokens enter the graveyard before they cease to exist. To populate, choose any number of permanents and/or players, then give each another counter of each kind already there.)

Glad you liked it. Glory to Phyrexia!

I still need to get a copy myself. I'll be swapping it in for Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos. I originally liked the extra proliferate, but it never did enough when I played it, and the incubate tokens are pretty underwhelming. I also originally thought his ability triggered on all artifact spells, not just artifact creatures. Reading the card explains the card I guess haha.

Have you thought about Roaming Throne? I know your deck doesn't have an abundance of creatures, but since everything is Phyrexian, you could double up on the triggers on creatures like Bloated Contaminator, Ichor Rats, and even Atraxa, Praetors' Voice. Cut the turn count in half if everyone is infected.

So the reason I think there should be boardwipes in a deck like this is that if you have incubate tokens out, you can rebuild much faster than other decks because you already have an army of artifact creatures, which is also why I think 34 lands is low, paying that 2 to use the incubate tokens adds up fast.Being able to rebuild faster means that you gain more advantage from the board being wiped than your opponents, on average. So I think any boardwipe that does not hit artifacts specifically will work. If you are concerned about recasting your commander, you can include ways to Reanimate (Animate Dead, Tortured Existence) your commander to avoid the command tax. but if you want to avoid hitting your commander there's always Toxic Deluge, The Meathook Massacre and Black Sun's Zenith as flexible boardwipes that do not necessarily hit Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos, as well as By Invitation Only, Kindred Dominance, and Tragic Arrogance. Another unrelated card that may be worthwhile is Monumental Corruption. It's risky, but if lifegain is added to the deck it's a great way to draw a burst of cards.

Mortlocke I appreciate the feedback on the Primer! I could probably do with a clean up with my all my primers, not just this one haha. I like explaining my card choices to any curious viewers, but I've also found that writing out a Primer and fleshing it out gives me a better understanding of my own deck. By forcing myself to write out a description of the card and its various functions in the deck, it forces me to think more critically about their presence in the deck, rather than 'Hey, I like this card!' haha.

Doubling Season is a perfect example of that. It synergizes well enough, but for its mana cost, I'd rather play something else in this deck that can take full advantage of the card. Branching Evolution would be a better fit currently, I just don't have one yet. Same with Ozolith, the Shattered Spire. If I end up adding Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos, I'll have to think more carefully about adding Doubling Season back in.

Thanks again for taking a look!

UltimateRoxas40 i'm always glad to see another Atraxa build as there is always something to learn from someone else's ideas. You have a great primer that goes into great detail, but perhaps a bit too much detail. Instead of discussing every individual card choice, maybe highlight them as combo pieces? For example:

[[Ezuri, Claw of Progress + Forgotten Ancient]]

I think it would read a bit better and really highlight card combinations. I see that your deck really leans into the +1/+1 counters, have you considered Ozolith, the Shattered Spire, Branching Evolution, or maybe even Doubling Season? The first two have great synergy with a good number of cards already in the deck - the aforementioned Ezuri, Forgotten Ancient, Simic Ascendancy, Sword of Truth and Justice, and Biophagus just to name a few. I only mention Doubling Season because you mentioned you want to dip into the Incubate mechanic via Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos. Not only will you get double the tokens, but you also get double the +1/+1 counters placed on said artifact tokens.

Looks like the list lacks wipes and mana in general, something Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos takes advantage of/desperately needs. I'm also not much of a fan of instants/sorceries like Costly Plunder since it's a one-time draw, I'd rather see creatures/enchantments here (Chronomancer and Esper Sentinel synergize somewhat as artifacts, Greed or Idol of Oblivion and the like as a permanent form of draw.) Or even bigger bursts of draw like Stinging Study if it has to be inst/sorc. Patriarch's Bidding seems like an auto include here.

Mortlocke I'm more interested in Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos's Proliferate ability, just to drive the poison home more quickly. But I get not wanted to add another element to the deck haha. Funny enough, I was actually going to swap out Ichorclaw Myr and put in Phyrexian Censor too haha. Ichorclaw Myr never did a lot for me, and having something to slow my opponents down just a little bit while I Poison them or build up my +1/+1 counters seems pretty good. I just need to get a copy of it first.

Mortlocke Have you thought about adding any of the new cards from March of the Machines? I wish they gave us more Toxic cards to play with. I'm kinda drawn towards Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos, since it gives us Phyrexian creatures through Incubate that could act as blockers/deterrents from attacking us, since when the tokens die (or any other Phyrexian creature), we can proliferate at the end of each turn (presumably they are already Poisoned haha).

Phyrexian Censor also seems like a good fit for your deck, since you've got that Stax-y subtheme. It could help slow down the game and let the Poison proliferate away.
