The Maybeboard is for cards I would love to add that I know would make the deck even more awesome, but haven't had a chance to acquire yet.

Playtesting

Scardor, 10 years ago

Some mana problems have occured, as well as not getting a scepter out fast enough... Might want to look for replacement lands, any that do not have to start tapped (so they would replace the Scry land).

Reducing to 60

Scardor, 10 years ago

Removed a lot of cards, currently playtesting to see if the deck can achieve infinite turn fast enough (turn 4-6) or if there are any issues.

Update 5

Max..., 10 years ago

Based on comments and advice, Dreadbore has been swapped for Lightning Bolt, as 3 damage is often enough to kill the same creatures Dreadbore would have, plus it is instant speed and significantly less expensive. A couple of copies of Dreadbore have been added to the sideboard-in-progress for use against walker heavy decks. -4 Dreadbore, +4 Lightning Bolt Deck desciption has also been updated.

First Changes and Ideas

andrenonaka, 10 years ago

Hai! Made some changes that you guys suggested, looking better now. So this is more or less what I did:

Removed 2xFabled Hero, 1xAjani's Pridemate and 1xEnd Hostilities and included 4xSoldier of the Pantheon.

I did this because Fabled Hero is good for one thing: swinging with Spectra Ward. It can't block anything without dying, doesn't have evasion on its own, and gets itself burnt by almost all removals in the meta. End Hostilities helped ocasionally, but it does'nt synergize with the deck at all, and most of the time is just a dead card. And 4xAjani's Pridemate seemed too much, since I don't want to be drawing this in the end game in most cases.

I do want to bring Brimaz, King of Oreskos to the deck, but I don't want to let go of my Watcher of the Roost. I don't know, they just bring so much value when they're out there. I still need to do more testing. Also want to bring at least one Perilous Vault because I piss my pants everytime I see a Stormbreath Dragon.

Finally, I'm thinking about sideboarding Return to the Ranks for when I bring a lot of weenies to game 2 or 3. I dunno, tho.

Thanks for the comments!

Removed Master of the Feast and added 1 Whip of Erebos and 2 Bloodsoaked Champion, Master of the Feast always ended up being on the field for to long and creating card advanatge for my opponent. So I decided I would rather have some early game preassure with Bloodsoaked Champion and increase my odds of drawing Whip of Erebos.

Also, removed 1 Sign in Blood to main board Liliana Vess.

And lastly, filled the now two empty spots in my sideboard with an extra Liliana Vess and Dictate of Erebos

So far this has proved to be a massive improvement. Although I'm not sold on having Liliana Vess in the deck I haven't found a suitable replacement for her yet.

Hydra??

Xrandox, 10 years ago

Im beginning to wonder if Heroes' Bane is the best choice of hydra for this deck, or go a route not involving a hydra. Any thoughts on a replacement? Kiora, the Crashing Wavefoil would be nice but i like keeping the deck creature heavy.

Proxying for testing

Hondow, 10 years ago

My friends and I proxied a couple of T1 -T3 decks for practice for GPNJ this coming weekend. Here's what I can tell about the deck so far: Miracles (U/W/(R)): The deck seems to do okay against miracles game one, but there's a lot of hate the deck can board in for games 2 and 3 (shusher, red ele. blast, pyroblast, Sulfuric Vortex, etc.) I feel it's about 50/50 for game 1, with about 65/35 games 2 and 3. Elves: The deck seems to do very well elves. I used to have 2 Volcanic Fallouts in the SB almost specifically for this match up, but with how well the deck does against elves already (targeted removal on symbiotes/rangers/heritage druids) I ended up removing one of the 2. It's a 60/40 game 1 most of the time, and then it can range from 70-75/30-25 games 2 and 3 depending on what their SB is. U/R Delver: This deck is terrible to play against in general. There's a reason why it's the best aggro deck in the format on mtgtop8. I've only had a couple of games against this deck, but I feel that it's about 35/65 game 1 and then 50/50 games 2 and 3. Volcanic Fallout can do work against a board of delvers and Pyros, but often does nothing to swiftspear when they can cast any number of cantrips/free counters. Relic is okay against cruise, pyroblast and red ele. blast are essential. Dredge: I've tested against both the manaless and the mana versions of dredge, and it's a pretty good match up against both. If they every manage to get multiple bridges in their graveyards, bolting a goblin or swiftspear is pretty much essential. Game 1 I feel is about 60/40, and then games 2 and 3 are probably 75/25 or so. Relics are a house, fallout does work, and counting to 20 against a deck that deals a lot of damage to itself with Git. Probe and Street Wraith is easy. Enchantress: This deck is pretty hit or miss when it comes to burn. If they get a solitary confinement out, you absolutely have to kill their enchantresses, however if they don't then you can just count to 20. Pre-board match up is 65/35, then games 2 and 3 get much worse for us depending on how many leylines of sanctity they're running. It can get to as bad as 35/65 if they have 3 of them. I tend to have good luck with this deck, rarely seeing leyline and having them lose to their own confinements, but on paper this is not that good a match up for us. Death and Taxes (W/(B)): Technically this shouldn't be too bad of a match up for us. Sure, they get Thalia's, but you can use lightning bolt, chain lightning, searing blood, rift bolt, lavamancer, yada yada yada to remove her. Game one is probably a 35/65 to them, but games 2 and 3 we get to board in our Smash to Smithereens, our Volcanic Fallout and our Pithing Needle. These games should at least be 50/50 unless they get a leyline in their opening hand, which shouldn't be too often considering they usually only run 1-2. Also, we didn't proxy these decks, but lists that I think we can do well against are: Reanimator, Stoneblade, Jund, Lands, BUG Devler and RUG Delver.

play test

OThatSean, 10 years ago

Did some casual games against two skilled friends. One runing a big green devotion deck, this is a favorable matchup for me and I won. The lesson to be learned from these games probably was the effectiveness of act of treason and treasure cruise. Forgot I even had the 2 cruises in the deck, they were there by mistake in place of two end hostilities I might revisit playing these, but for now, they are out. The other matchup was against a well balanced mono red aggro deck running 4 swiftspear, akroan crusader, foundrystreet, hordeling outbursts, and a bunch of burn. I kept my opening 7 in the first round despite only having 1 Mantis rider as far as creatures go but a lightning strike and a winterflame brought me some time as I got out the cards I needed I played a Seeker of the way and got one good life gain out off him and a titans strength. This match had us both attacking with everything every round, the vigilance came in handy and when I dropped a 2nd mantis rider that ended the game. Round 2 was a loss for me. My opening hand was 4 lands a swift spear, end hostilities, and jeskia ascendancy, I should have mulliganed, but because I could drop the swiftspear first round off a basic mountain and I forgot I was playing a tempo deck now I went for it. I ended up never having the right creatures to play, made some trades and played the end hostilities. However I had not noticed that he had 7 cards in his hand and I had 2. He was able to build the board up in his favor bigger and better than before on that very next turn. I had an act of treason but he had no targets big enough to make a difference, I tried anyway. He then attacked with them all, and tossed a lightning bolt my way to finish me off. Lesson to be learned from this loss, dont play an aggro strategy using a tempo deck.
