Dawn Charm

Choose one —

  • Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn.
  • Regenerate target creature. (The next time it would be destroyed, instead tap it, remove it from combat, and remove all damage from it.)
  • Counter target spell that targets you.

legendofa on Should Color Pie Breaks Be …

I don't think blue land destruction + mass damage or green flying on demand is going to be reprinted any time soon.

Mass banning shouldn't be the way to go. The distinction between almost off-color and actually off-color is very thin and fuzzy. Ambush Viper is a classic example. Every individual part of the card is solidly available in green, but together they become very similar to a mono-black card. Is this a ban-worthy break? Dawn Charm is a hard counterspell in white, but it's a natural extension of the self-protection that white excels at. Is this ban-worthy? Thinking about that, about half of Planar Chaos and Future Sight would be under consideration for banning. Is it worth it to ban big chunks of entire blocks in all formats?

Reprints are okay, in my opinion. Chaos Warp is a good but not great card in a vacuum. The only thing notable about it is that it can temporarily remove a single enchantment. I think the idea that new players will think these are standard and typical effects won't happen as much as these people are claiming. Either a more experienced player can say "Yeah, that's a weird effect and not something that normally happens," or the new player simply collects more cards and notices that, for example, black is much better at forcing discards than white.

If you can pull together a full red-green counterspell deck from reprints, I say go for it. It's going to be less efficient than other red-green decks and other counterspell decks, but if style points are more important than winning, that should be a valid option.

Of course, I don't encourage printing new breaks. But for cards that already exist, I don't see any realistic long-term harm in keeping them in circulation.

Thanks SufferFromEDHD. I have made some recent changes and have been enjoying playing the deck with the new additions.

Scroll Rack seems like a great include.

When it comes to counters, I tend to lean towards Dawn Charm, Lapse of Certainty, or Reprieve since they counter most mass removal spells. I have not played with Rebuff the Wicked, though the versatility is intriguing.

Great suggestions I will have to test these ones out.

IHATENAMES on Angelic Spiritual Soul Sisters

A few things.

1st off. I think a soul sisters deck and angel deck are not compatible. Soul sisters make and want as many lifegain triggers as possible. Maximizing cards like Voice of the Blessed . Angels i believe want to maintain x life above your starting life and gain in chunks of 5 for probably the best angel Resplendent Angel. These seem simular but that creates tough choices in deck design.

Book of Exalted Deeds with creature lands is a combo with Mutavault some decks just can't beat this.

I think you want the card draw off of Shelter but I personally think that card sux. You would likely be better with a green splash for just Collected Company or run a cheaper protection spell like Brave the Elements or a better card draw engine Welcoming Vampire perhaps.

Speaker of the Heavens is a suprise op card i have a angel deck on mtga for historic and it is a great agro card angels needed.

You are light in 1 key piece of any deck. Interaction.

March of Otherworldly Light is a favorite of mine.

Path to Exile could be decent

Dawn Charm niche counterspell/ protect a creature

Surge of Salvation protection vs opposing aggro

I'd suggest looking at another decks sideboard to help build a better one Check out decks like modern d&t or soul sister or angels and see what you want. But be sure to cover a few things.

Graveyard hate like Soul-Guide Lantern Something to fight control many different approachesCavern of Souls Thalia, Guardian of Thraben Artifact/enchantment hate Disenchant

And something for decks that you think you need more help with and expect to face. Perhaps a boardwipe for decks that go wide Doomskar or any other archetype/problem that needs fixing.

Icbrgr on Eriette of the Charmed Apple

Enlightened Tutor, Idyllic Tutor can be some nice tools here to search for a needed enchantment...

I also think Crawlspace and Silent Arbiter are solid extra layers of protection for unexpected removal of Eriette of the Charmed Apple...

For protecting Eriette of the Charmed Apple you can also consider Lightning Greaves/Swiftfoot Boots alongside Rebuff the Wicked/Apostle's Blessing/Dawn Charm.

DemonDragonJ on Eislinda and Vernalia

I have designed my own character inspired by the Snow Queen from Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale of the same name, a rival for her, as well as several cards associated with each of them. I assure the users here that my posting of an ice queen shortly after WotC revealed theirs is pure coincidence, as I had this idea in my head for some time, but simply never had sufficient free time to post it, before now, so here is what I have produced.

Eislinda, the Ice Queen Show

Eislinda represents calm logic and deliberate, methodical action, as evidenced by how her ability is an activated ability, and her name contains the word "eis," which is German for "ice."

Eislinda's Disdain Show

This card is a smaller version of Punish Ignorance in the same way that Countersquall is a smaller version of Undermine.

Icy Rebuke Show

I modeled this card after non-blue counterspells, such as Dawn Charm and Rebuff the Wicked, because I found those spells to be too limited but I do not believe that this spell is too powerful or a color pie break, since it still is fairly limited in what it can do.

Eisheim, the Frozen Palace Show

Most utility lands do not produce colored mana, so I wished to make one that did, and I ensured that it also had an ability for each color of mana that it could produce. I hope that this land is not too powerful, but, if it is, I certainly would appreciate feedback on how to better balance it.

Now that I have displayed Eislinda and cards associated with her, I shall introduce her rival.

Vernalia, Herald of Spring Show

Vernalia is the opposite of Eislinda; she represents growth, rebirth, and passion, while Eislinda represent death, darkness, and apathy, but she also represents instinct, intuition, and unconscious action, as demonstrated by her abilities being triggered abilities, while Eislinda's abilities are activated abilities. Her name contains the word "vernal," which is Latin for "of, or relating to, Spring."

Vernalia's Grasp Show

I am very surprised that WotC has not yet printed a card that combines Artifact Mutation and Aura Mutation, so I have made such a card, and I feel that it is perfectly balanced at costing 3 mana, while the other two cards have a combined mana value of 4.

Grunwald, Cradle of Spring Show

I had contemplated having the green ability put a +1/+1 counter on a creature, but that would require that there be a creature on the battlefield, so I changed it to always be useful. "Grunwald" is German for "green forest," which, I suppose, is somewhat redundant, in the context of this game.

What does everyone else say about these cards? I spend a great amount of time and effort designing them, so I welcome any feedback that anyone has to offer!
