Storm deck. Only possibly kinda remotely polite in 1v1 EDH dueling (which it's decent at). I mostly goldfish it when I'm alone to see how fast it can go off (usually turn 5-6). In multiplayer it would be super impolite to play this deck against 99.9% of playgroups. I have't even tried it against a group myself. I want to be invited back to play next time you know.

Building well rounded EDH decks:

Common Beginner EDH deck building mistakes:

Tips on good deck building and multiplayer politicking.

EdhRec is the best deck building resource there is...except this one of course.

Top 8 1v1 Commander deck lists

My collection of paper EDH decks has been meticulously crafted for maximum power and mutual gameplay fun, while still maintaining a reasonable budget. Each one is different colors, different strategies, and different power levels from each other for playing against different kinds of opponents. I enjoy being able to play with different decks all the time to keep things interesting. I designed them all to be their own individual experiences, with as few overlapping cards and strategies as possible.

Except for Sol Ring , its in nearly every deck. I own like 20 of them now.

You can see from the picture that I have them all in their own deck boxes, each with a custom label on top. They are also all double sleeved and each box even contains the tokens the deck uses. No sense going to the trouble of assembling these decks and not making them nice to use and well protected.

My tier system is basically figured out by comparing and battling my decks against each other and vs. other people in my meta. How consistently and quickly it can win is a big factor, so is how much removal it has in it. I've seen other people have very complicated and specific ways of calculating the tier of a deck... mine is basically done by gut feeling and personal gameplay experience. Occasionally the decks shift up and down in my list when they get improved or outclassed by their peers.

Generally speaking control strategies and super efficient combo decks are tier 1, tuned mid-range battlecruiser decks are tier 2 and slower, more budget, or weird theme/tribal decks are tier 3 and below.

I just started my online account in December 2016. Many EDH power cards are waaaay cheaper online than on paper (although some vice versa), and I try to acquire as many of them as possible. So far most of my collection is only in Simic colors, which has helped me budget wise a lot. I have a bunch of decent to pretty good decklists figured out so far. I love deck building, its half the fun of this game for me. And the warm fuzzy feeling of ramping and countering spells is the other half of the fun.

I have always been a deck builder. I learned Magic in 1994 while I was in middle school. I distinctly remember a deck I built after Alliances came out that nobody at my school wanted to play against...it was something like 20x lands and all x4 ofs Sinkhole , Stone Rain , Hymn to Tourach , Dark Ritual , Lightning Bolt , Incinerate , Ball Lightning , Hypnotic Specter , Balduvian Horde , Order of the Ebon Hand . Later I got to play standard (then called type 2) with Fact or Fiction and Cunning Wish and Upheaval + Psychatog and it was awesome. Eventually around 2010 I felt I was done with the game and sold all my cards. Yeah I did. So many cards...that are so much more valuable now than when I sold them. It was a huge mistake that I don't even like to think about. When the first Commander precons came out, it got me back in...I bought all 5 of those decks, and it helped jump start a new collection. I've been Commandering ever since.

Dovin's Acquity's flavor text hints at an Anti-Gatewatch League or Legion of Bolas or something. The Gatewatch hasn't had any cards in a few sets, they should come back somehow and battle them in this next set. Also a bunch of Kaladesh artifacts and Amonkhet zombies should show up from Tezzeret and Bolas. I'm super psyched.

I love Captive Audience's flavor, art, abilities, its all fantastic. If only it was a curse somehow it would be bananas. The whole Rakdos circus thing is kinda silly...reminds me of evil versions of Unstable/Battlebond cards...but its still fun.

...

Sunder Shaman

This guy is a staple already! Trygon Predator now has a big brother. Hell yeah, this card is rad. Not really any evasion like his little bro, but a 5/5 for 4 CMC does not suck.

Todays Hot Takes

  • That Priest of Forgotten Gods is going to be so f'n great, like whoa. It makes me think that even though the sac outlets for standard are still missing a free one like Nantuko Husk or Viscera Seer the strategy is still shaping up big time. Totally rad it does it all: adding mana and drawing a card and forcing creature sacrificing and doing damage to opponents all in one effect. Super duper hyped to play it in my Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest edh deck.

Priest of Awesome

  • Orzhov Depositor is another quiet standout, its great sac fodder. I'm fairly certain its a playable standard card, and its going straight in my Mazirek deck too. Here is the deck by the way: Mazirek Sac-Storm: The Contraption of Life & Death I'm currently the #2 Mazirek deck on tappedout, so upvotes are very appreciated. Number 1 hasn't updated his list in like 3 years, so I will probably pass him eventually.

Orzhov Depositor

  • I'm also super hyped for Incubation Druid, it reminds me of a more expensive Joraga Treespeaker. I always love ramp. And elves. And +1/+1 counters. And ramp.

Incubation Druid

  • I just built Child of Alara edh with Maze's End combo last month expecting new toys for it. So its fun getting a couple decent "gates matters" cards for that. That gate Reflecting Pool land Harmony Square combined with Gateway Plaza could be the core of a mana base for standard. Maybe thats how the gate deck's mana base looks? If there is ever a standard gate deck anyways.

Harmony Plaza

  • Cinder Lash is totally a cool card to upgrade edh decks with. It reminds me of Aura of Silence but with damage instead of mana taxing. Having cards like this in play can be a nice political tool.

Cinder Lash

  • Skewer the Critics will be great in the mono red list I play on Arena. I expect it makes burn a very serious deck again in standard.

Skewer the Critics

January 9, 2019 4:12 p.m.

As usual the new card that most excites me today is the new mana dork, haha. It's not an elf, but it still produces 2 colors of mana and its a 3 drop, so it's great for any creature based ramp deck that can cast it.

That new Domri is also speaking to me, I mean it does give mana and draw cards there's a lot to like. I enjoy playing decks with 50+ creatures in them, and this card has a great ultimate for multiplayer. Many walkers have ultimates that can only kill one player (or less), but this one scales up nicely in multiplayer games. This is not a walker the table should ignore and allow to ultimate, but in my play group walkers ultimate all the time for some reason so I bet it will be great.

Verity Circle is an interesting hoser for mana dorks. Being an avid mana dork enthusiast I'm generally against this sort of thing but my love of drawing cards is making excited anyways. I think this card is just sneakily powerful in an average EDH game. Its activated ability is sadly overpriced, but it can still be useful occasionally. However in a lot of metas this card will function as a insane source of card advantage and/or a mana taxing prison style card. Both of those things sound great to me! Sign me up for that kind of fun.

Rhythm of the Wild is a great haste enabler and counter protection spell. I bet people start playing it in decks that the commander wants haste, especially in voltron style decks. Scary card to have in play across the table.

Wilderness Reclamation, where have you been all my life? Hello sweetie, come over here and get in every deck I've ever built with green mana in it. Mmmmmmm.... Its a yummy new EDH staple, and at uncommon too!

And that same thing about Smothering Tithe too... except for all my decks with white mana. If only it was an uncommon also. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

So far Ravnica's 3rd block is shaping up to be at least as great as the last 2 Ravnica blocks were.

With Retreat to Coralhelm in play you could use mana tutoring dorks and make a chain like like Veteran Explorer > Viridian Emissary / Primal Druid > Farhaven Elf / Wood Elves > Wild Wanderer / Solemn Simulacrum > Gobbling Ooze > Ulvenwald Hydra > Protean Hulk. You should have mana left over and a sac outlet to use on the hulk at the end of it. Even if you get fizzled somehow you ramp out a bunch of mana in the process. Imagine it happening with Amulet of Vigor or Lotus Cobra in play too...mmmmm yummy over kill.

Could be an interesting angle to explore for the deck. However it since it requires the enchantment to be in play to function, we need ways to find it. I think the best tutor for it might be Drift of Phantasms... which also conveniently finds Intruder Alarm and Faces of the Past (which probably enables some decent elf/wizard/ooze chains too). Getting the Drift of Phantasms in hand should be easy enough with all the creature tutors available in green. Could be cool, maybe even good ;)

January 4, 2019 7:49 a.m.

It's a teeny bit less broken than pod since it gets summoning sickness, but it's so tight that it's a legendary creature! It's a shame it's a mythic because I want 4 copies.

The Scarab God is the most powerful zombie commander by a long shot. The list above is great but none of those cards except TSG was a standard dominating powerhouse. It can win games on its own, the other ones are just in consideration because of some zombie synergy not actual card power.
