Stax Style Mass Land Destruction and Despair that never ends. This deck would probably be tier 3 if it was only about its actual competitive power level, since its pretty budget. But this strategy is harsh and difficult to deal with for casual decks.

Budget MTGO - Tier 1

This is my favorite online deck, its really powerful and its an under 25 tix budget deck! It's weakness is its a bit soft to heavy control or super fast combo decks..they usually just eat it up (in 1v1 games especially). However vs. average "fair" midrange commander decks its a super powered monster that always feels like it's winning. I am constantly amazed with how much of a lopsided freaking board advantage it gets when its allowed to actually play Magic. If anything it plays too much, opponents have to watch you play upwards of 5-10 spells a turn often starting turn 5 or 6. Games spiral out of control quickly for opponents if left unchecked because few "fair" decks can out race how much it can do each turn once it gets going. Its actually really fun to play those kind of games, and it does them great in 1v1 or multiplayer. Its definitely way less fun to be the opponent against this deck. Lots of mana dorks and ETB creatures and free spells and card advantage.

Super budget deck! This version leans on control cards and extra turns to win games. Also Edric is manipulative.

Super budget deck! Not quite as explosive as the "Value" version I built, but it makes up for that with more ways to say no and steal stuff. It's better in 1v1 games vs. control decks too. Doesn't ramp as hard though, so there's less turn 3 Rashmi. It doesn't really have the goods to be a serious control deck, but it's more controlling than the other Rashmi build I have.

Deck Ideas Brewing Currently

This deck is untested and just a list of ideas currently.

Additional Notes

My collection of paper EDH decks has been meticulously crafted for maximum power and mutual gameplay fun, while still maintaining a reasonable budget. Each one is different colors, different strategies, and different power levels from each other for playing against different kinds of opponents. I enjoy playing with a new deck each game to keep things interesting. I designed them all to be their own individual experiences, with as few overlapping cards and strategies as possible.

Except Sol Ring, its in almost every deck. I own 15 of them.

As far as online decks I have no interest in "investing" in another collection like my paper one just to play online. However it's super fun to have some EDH decks to play online every now and then so I bought enough super cheap singles to build some fun decks. They are competitive enough to win multiplayer games and casual 1v1 games, but they are not good enough to legitimately win 1v1 leagues. Which is just fine for me because it's free to play with them in the practice room now that I "own" the cards.

I just started my online account in December 2016. I have never opened a digital pack or done a draft online, so all the cards were bought as singles. Currently I have only invested ~$20 in my entire online collection to play Commander. With that much money I bought the fixings to build a bunch of good decks, with different play styles and power levels. I have them listed above.

Many EDH power cards are waaaay cheaper online than on paper (although some vice versa), and I try to acquire as many of them as possible. So far my whole collection is focused in Simic colors, and its helped me budget wise a lot. I just like having a few different fun decks to play online. I love that it's free to play online once you "get" the cards. But I love paper Magic like a million times more than MTGO. Like a billion times more. I hate misclicks so bad. End rant.

I have always been a deck builder. I learned Magic in 1994 while I was in middle school. I distinctly remember a deck I built after Alliances came out that nobody at my school wanted to play against...it was something like 20x lands and all x4 ofs Sinkhole, Stone Rain, Hymn to Tourach, Dark Ritual, Lightning Bolt, Incinerate , Ball Lightning, Hypnotic Specter , Balduvian Horde , Order of the Ebon Hand . Later I got to play standard (then called type 2) with Fact or Fiction and Cunning Wish and Upheaval + Psychatog and it was awesome. Eventually I felt I was done with the game and sold all my cards. So many cards...that are so much more valuable now than when I sold them. It was a huge mistake that I don't even like to think about. When the first Commander precons came out, it got me back in...I bought all 5 of those decks, and it helped jump start a new collection. I've been Commandering ever since.

Hey Rzepkanut! I came here because I was looking for some advice on my Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim deck (Ayli's Solemn Sacrifice). I ended up spending hours looking through your decks and website. I have to say I have never seen anything like the artwork you have made. It is truly amazing and I hope you keep it up! I wanted to ask if you had ever thought about making magic card alters because if it's something you are interested in, I'm sure you could make some of the coolest alternative artworks out there. I see most of your decks are relatively low cost and that's the way I'd like to keep my decks, but I would truly appreciate any and all advice you could give me!

Hey Nick8585, you didn't give me enough information to make much of a suggestion. House play isn't an actual format, and i don't know about your collection or budget or metagame, so I don't know what to say. Give me more info if you are serious.

I got a random small idea..I think maybe Hickory Woodlot could be pretty good in here. I find that even a tiny little bit of ramp can be helpful. I'm sure that you'll have no trouble replaying it over and over as well. The play pattern of using it to ramp out your commander early, it gets used up and sacs itself and then comes right back into play charged up... seems pretty cool. Cheers :)

Assembling contraptions in magic sounds hilarious to me. The un-sets have always been very low powered though. Still I totally hope they make a few cool multi-colored legendary ones so we can build some fun silver border decks.

I think the specific appeal to those cards is that they count as creatures in your graveyard so you can "eternalize" them and then once they come into play you can copy more interesting things, not because they get around the legend rule. The best ways around the legend rule that I know of are Mirror Gallery and Sakashima the Impostor.

July 24, 2017 1:27 p.m.

Hey! Got some ideas for your chaos deck....first a combo with cards that are intersting alone but hilarious together, Timesifter + Stranglehold = extra turns for only you, other people get turns too just less often... some more free stuff...Omen Machine, Temporal Aperture, Unexpected Results, Master of Predicaments, Hazoret's Undying Fury, Mind's Dilation, Eye of the Storm ... fun and useful thingys like Clever Impersonator, Mirage Mirror.... Homeward Path combos with the Perplexing Chimera and probably other chaos cards in here already. Teferi's Realm is crazy, Zur's Weirding is troll status for sure plus cascade is unaffected by it, Nature's Will and Bear Umbra because they're so good with Yidris. Good luck :)

Zimmers_0 I was brewing a weird creature based 5 color storm deck on my phone that I should share here sometime...its built around creatures that immediately create mana. Like Beastcaller Savant, Burning-Tree Emissary, Blood Pet, Peregrine Drake, Animar, the mana reduction familiars, etc... powered by things like Recycle and Primordial Sage. Never built it though, just an unfinished deck idea... its just a list of 70-80 nonland cards currently.

I'm not actually a judge so i may be mistaken, but i think if you copy the eternalize activation on the scarab god with rings or bracers you have to choose another creature card for each copy, it doesn't just make a bunch of copies of one of them. Pretty sure since it targets and exiles the creature card in the graveyard as part of the resolution of the activating.

July 18, 2017 8:31 a.m.

Grave Pact and Phyrexian Arena are good ideas for sure...however don't have an extra Arena currently, and don't own a Pact at all (it was already on my "maybeboard"/want list). Deadbridge Chant has been too slow for me in games in other decks. Seemed like it should've been good but ended up cutting it from my Karador deck (which is more of a graveyard deck than this one), because it always seemed to get destroyed before my first upkeep trigger. This deck isn't really interested in milling itself, it fill up the graveyard pretty fast just from its main strategy working. Thanks for the suggestions!

Fun idea! If only they were partner commanders... I think if you use some more tutors and reanimation spells you will have more success getting the alternate commanders to work. Hapatra especially gets a big target and is easy enough to kill. Anything from Diabolic Tutor to Time of Need can find them. There are so many good tutors available, same with reanimation spells. I like ones with additional value like Beacon of Unrest, Victimize, Ever After, Fated Return, and Seasons Past. Also Vicious Shadows is a good Prossh kill card.

Happy gathering!

Quote about my Rashmi deck (Rampy Rashmi's Value Machine - 25 Tix Budget MTGO) from a friend after a few 1v1 matches:

  • "You don't play that deck against friends."

Made me feel weird to read...kinda bad but also strangely kinda good...I love playing magic with my friends for mutual fun but I also like building as good quality of decks as possible and solving the game and playing to win. He wasn't actually angry at me I don't think, but I know he didn't have much fun playing against me that night either. Up to that moment I was only pleased with how well my deck was performing, and enjoying playing with it. Hearing it was no fun to play against was a bummer. But simultaneously it was almost like a compliment since the deck is designed to win games, and I always play to win. I never wanted to be a bummer to my friend though...I thought he was enjoying the challenge. We had some close games, but in retrospect I was mostly winning the whole time.

  • Moral of the story: If one of your decks is potentially crushing your friend's spirits over and over, switch decks a little more often and let everyone get a chance to have fun. Even if its super fun to be the crusher, it's not fun for your friend to be crushed repeatedly. That's what random internet opponents are for.

This is why I have so many EDH decks, you gotta have every power level for playing against different opponents and different kinds of decks. I've learned this lesson before but online gaming makes it easier to be unaware of your opponent's emotional state. Just a friendly reminder to all the high powered deck builders here in the Deckwatch.

July 14, 2017 6:48 p.m.

Thornbite Staff seems like it would be great in this deck also.

July 14, 2017 3:52 p.m.

Hey! Thanks for the kind words on my profile page. Nice deck you got here, looks fun! I got some random card ideas for you...Ophiomancer, Grave Titan, Phyrexian Delver, Immortal Servitude, Cauldron of Souls, Sifter of Skulls, Pawn of Ulamog, Ogre Slumlord, Authority of the Consuls, Shattered Angel, Angelic Chorus, Polluted Bonds, Pristine Talisman, Celestial Mantle, Boon Reflection and Rings of Brighthearth. Not sure what to add or cut specifically though :)

Good luck & happy gathering!
