This is a tempo deck, not really a true control deck. It has tons of bounce spells and creatures that draw a card when they connect. Still needs lots of work.

Lots of ramp, creatures with ETB effects, value from Riku, tempo and tokens. Until we trade everything in for random cards off the top!! Its like magical roulette!!

Budget MTGO - Tier 1

This is my previously favorite online deck. Its really powerful and its an under 50 tix budget deck! Lots of mana dorks and ETB creatures and free spells and card advantage. Plus it's a Genesis Wave/Primal Surge deck too, which is obviously super fun.

Budget MTGO - Tier 2

Super budget deck! This version leans on control cards and extra turns to win games. Also Edric is manipulative.

My collection of paper EDH decks has been meticulously crafted for maximum power and mutual gameplay fun, while still maintaining a reasonable budget. Each one is different colors, different strategies, and different power levels from each other for playing against different kinds of opponents. I enjoy being able to play with different decks all the time to keep things interesting. I designed them all to be their own individual experiences, with as few overlapping cards and strategies as possible.

Except for Sol Ring, its in almost every deck. I own 15 of them now.

You can see from the picture that I have them all in their own deck boxes, each with a custom label on top. They are also all double sleeved and each box even contains the tokens the deck uses. No sense going to the trouble of assembling these decks and not making them nice to use and well protected.

My tier system is basically figured out by comparing and battling my decks against each other and vs. other people in my meta. How consistently and quickly it can win is a big factor, so is how much removal it has in it. I've seen other people have very complicated and specific ways of calculating the tier of a deck... mine is basically done by gut feeling and personal gameplay experience. Occasionally the decks shift up and down in my list when they get improved or outclassed by their peers.

Generally speaking control strategies and super efficient combo decks are tier 1, tuned mid-range battlecruiser decks are tier 2 and slower, more budget, or weird theme/tribal decks are tier 3 and below.

I just started my online account in December 2016. I have never opened a digital pack or done a draft online, so all the cards were bought as singles. So far I have invested ~$70 in my entire online collection to play Commander. With that much money I bought the fixings to build a bunch of good decks, with different play styles and power levels. I have them listed above.

Many EDH power cards are waaaay cheaper online than on paper (although some vice versa), and I try to acquire as many of them as possible. So far my whole collection is currently only in Simic colors, which has helped me budget wise a lot. I have about 20 decent to good decklists figured out so far.

I have always been a deck builder. I learned Magic in 1994 while I was in middle school. I distinctly remember a deck I built after Alliances came out that nobody at my school wanted to play against...it was something like 20x lands and all x4 ofs Sinkhole, Stone Rain, Hymn to Tourach, Dark Ritual, Lightning Bolt, Incinerate, Ball Lightning, Hypnotic Specter, Balduvian Horde, Order of the Ebon Hand. Later I got to play standard (then called type 2) with Fact or Fiction and Cunning Wish and Upheaval + Psychatog and it was awesome. Eventually I felt I was done with the game and sold all my cards. So many cards...that are so much more valuable now than when I sold them. It was a huge mistake that I don't even like to think about. When the first Commander precons came out, it got me back in...I bought all 5 of those decks, and it helped jump start a new collection. I've been Commandering ever since.

The rule should force either 100% silver bordered cards or a hybrid mix of both black/silver. That way nobody is bringing a gun to a knife fight. Otherwise deck building restrictions based on specific cards gets too opinion based. Fun is absolute.

November 17, 2017 11:35 a.m.

Am I the only one hyped to build a silver bordered commander deck??? Any silver bordered strategies you all have in mind so far? I know the set isn't all previewed yet, but we have already gotten some great potential commanders. If each of the 5 factions each has a few legends (and it seems like they will) we could be looking at a whole new EDH format basically. The previously released silver bordered legendary creatures are not really in the same class as this new group, especially since the old ones were all mono colored. Do you think your friends will allow silver bordered cards more as only the commander or in the 99? Even if it rarely gets used, I think its a fun idea to have a silver bordered EDH deck available in case opponents appear with their own silver bordered EDH decks at a card shop or event. I guess contraption decks are only enabled with riggers, etc. so that kinda defines the deck construction of that archetype. I want to build a deck that is 100% silver bordered and also one thats a hybrid. Not going to try and get too specific until the whole set is previewed, but this set is getting my gears turning for sure :)

Come to think of it Temur Sabertooth is a substitute for the curio in the above combo but then it won't make green mana either. Both those cards are also great for reusing cascade creatures too.

November 12, 2017 7:54 p.m.

Oh I see... then how about Cloudstone Curio + any 2x creatures (like Cromat + Atogatog) + Deadeye Navigator + Ramos, Dragon Engine = Infinite of all colors but blue. I was brainstorming a deck like this, that's what drew me in originally. You can check it out for more potential ideas.

Cool glad to help. But flickering doesn't trigger Ramos's pump because his is a casting trigger. It doesn't trigger from things just coming into play. The flicker spell itself will still trigger Ramos though.

November 12, 2017 2:11 p.m.

Hey looks cool! Unfortunately i gotta be the bearer of bad news.... flicker effects won't trigger cascade on cascade creatures...or help Ramos much in any way here. If you want some more free spells to cast you can try Mind's Dilation, Oracle's Vault, Temporal Aperture, Mosswort Bridge. Maybe Kess, Dissident Mage for another value/recursion engine. Happy gathering :)

November 11, 2017 4:34 p.m.

Yeah mana dorks have a short lifespan against those kinds of decks. If you still want more ramp you can focus more on cards like Khalni Heart Expedition, Explosive Vegetation, Skyshroud Claim, and Ranger's Path which all get 2x lands into play at once. I know its expensive in paper but Mana Reflection is like the most amazing mana producing card ever. And a few more ideas Kessig Cagebreakers, Nacatl War-Pride and Ezuri's Predation are interesting token cards. Oooh yeah if you want to really go nuts, use Clever Impersonator or Mirage Mirror to copy fun things like Doubling Season :)

November 5, 2017 5:40 a.m.

Nice looking deck :) I've been playing my Tishana deck a whole lot online, and I have a few MVPs that you could use here. I think using flicker and copy effects to draw cards with Tishana are one of the best things to do with her. More specifically Essence Flux, Displace, Ghostly Flicker, Siren's Ruse, Nephalia Smuggler, & Vizier of Many Faces. Instant speed blink effects can be used as protection from spot removal or to reuse an ETB creature effect. The Vizier is especially cool because you can use it to copy Tishana and when you choose the real Tishana to keep, you still get the card draw trigger, and then the Vizier goes to the graveyard to be cast one more time! Instead of infinite combos my main win cons (other than simply swinging with an unblocked Tishana) are Psychosis Crawler, Berserk, and Overwhelming Stampede. Also I focused my ramp into only mana dorks to up my creature count. I found that way I can cast Tishana and start winning a bit earlier. I'm putting a link to my list below in case you are interested. Happy gathering!
