Sigarda Deck

Commander (EDH) forum

I was thinking of making an EDH deck based around Sigarda, Host of Herons . What cards would be a good idea in a deck like this? Please note that I'm trying to keep this relatively cheap, so can people not spam this with mythic rare cards that I couldn't possibly afford?

Thanks a bunch.

Um, maybe you should start with Black Lotus , Time Walk , a couple of the moxes, and also throw in some Jace, the Mind Sculptor s for good measure :)

I would recommend mana ramp with the green. Having green to mana ramp yourself is absolutely amazing in EDH, as sometimes I have 14-16 land out by about turn 8.

The problem with G/W is that you will most likely be on a creature based strategy that is extremely susceptible to board wipes.

However, you want probably cheap removal (Swords to Plowshares , Path to Exile etc.) and also want some awesome big creatures (Craterhoof Behemoth , Vigor etc)

I would save the card naming to Epochalyptik, as he's been around the block in EDH more than I have. One card I would say is completely necessary would be card:Green Sun's Zenith.

If you want to see my current EDH deck, here it is: BUG EDH Control

Epochalyptik] was nice enough to make a decklist that contains the most powerful cards in EDH. Check out what's on it, there's a lot of good suggestions.

It would be easier to make suggestions if you give us a number estimate for your budget, even if it's just a tentative range. There are plenty of good cards that are worth $5 or less, some that are worth $10 or less, and others that are worth $20 or more. Everything is relative.

Okay, I'd appreciate it if nobody suggested cards that cost over $5.

I'm aware that Sigarda, Host of Herons costs lots, but I already have her.

Wild Pair .

In a creature based deck, you're going to need to recover from board wipes. Wild pair will help you do that as long as you have some more creatures with the same total power and toughness.

G/W EDH builds often focus on tokens, it's what they happen to do really well. Sigarda doesn't have much other than the whole "you can't make me sacrifice stuff" to build around, but that means you probably want to do what you like to do in the colors.

You could play defense, then go over the top with equipment and Sigarda. Life gain is something the colors do well too, Luminarch Ascension , Wall of Reverence and Felidar Sovereign all help the cause.

Sigarda only costs $8, so my initial assumption is that you're building a deck with your spare pocket money. A ramp strategy would likely be best here.

Try the following cards:

Cultivate

card:Kodama's Reach

Explosive Vegetation

Sakura-Tribe Elder

Yavimaya Elder

Coalition Relic

Gilded Lotus

Sol Ring (can be over $5, but they're pretty easy to find now)

Thran Dynamo

Weathered Wayfarer

Doubling Cube

Caged Sun

Vedalken Orrery

Crystal Ball (the budget cousin of card:Sensei's Divining Top)

Deadwood Treefolk

Eternal Witness

Swords to Plowshares

Path to Exile

Angel of Jubilation

Oblation

Day of Judgment

Acidic Slime

Krosan Grip

card:Nature's Claim

Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger

Terastodon

card:Akroma's Vengeance

Austere Command

Oblivion Ring

Prison Term

card:Faith's Fetters

card:Eladamri's Call

Sterling Grove

Shield of the Oversoul

What exactly you want to ramp into is up to you. There are plenty of cheap fatties out there that would make a decent creature base.

I wouldn't really advise going the lifegain route, since lifegain is pretty weak in EDH. It depends on what you're going up against, though.

As far as life-related strategies go, Ajani Goldmane and Serra Avatar are pretty hilarious. Storm Herd is relevant if you can ramp successfully (see above list).
